My dog is an allergy-ridden, always has something going on, sort of Labrador Retriever, so we are definitely frequent fliers at Dr. Humprey's office. He is extremely personable and most importantly, he remembers his customers very well. There's nothing worse than going to a vet office and seeing a different doctor every time who doesn't know your pets medical history off the top of their head. You won't find that here. I just moved to the Ballantyne area. My dog had been going to a vet in Davidson and so I was looking for a one closer to our new home. I found this one and saw the stellar reviews and was excited. However, my experience did not match up with any reviews. To be fair, the receptionist were all very polite, nice, and welcoming. The vet assistant I initially met was very distant and had an attitude and seemed to care less about what was going on with my dog. This was our first visit, so I was a little worried that she didn't want to get to know my dog at all. The vet doctor that came to see my dog was rude. This was my dogs first visit and she wasn't at all welcoming or sweet with my dog the way I hoped. She was just focused on getting her in and out and not finding out the root cause or about her. She then suggested the idea my dog may have kidney failure. This was my dogs first visit, knowing not much about my dog, suggested kidney failure? So hearing that, I immediately jumped on the idea of blood work to ensure she didn't. Low and behold, all her results are as healthy as can be. I thought it was unfair she come up with such a severe diagnosis within the first visit and they didn't do much to come up with that conclusion. I've heard stellar reviews about West Ballantyne animal hospital, both from online and people I know. I won't be taking my dog back here. She clearly didn't like it much here either. At her old vet, she'd smile and almost wanna live there. Here, she wouldn't look at anyone in the eyes, shaking more than ever, and was just eager to get out. Also, I read a review that this place is cost friendly. I disagree. They did blood work, an antibiotic, an "exam", and the total came out to almost 153 dollars, but they gave me a 35 dollars discount for being a new patient. So, it would've likely been close to 200 dollars for nothing. A friend of mine took her dog for an emergency visit at the West Ballantyne Animal Hospital and they did blood work, urine samples, gave him special food, an exam. And, they paid less than me for all of that and their dog got better in 24 hours also. I just would recommend you taking your dog elsewhere. read more

Dr. Humphrey is the best! We have a nervous rescue with lots of allergies and skin problems so we come here regularly. I knew from the first visit when Dr. Humphrey sat on the floor to make our dog feel better that he was the real deal. He's also provided advice on the phone when we were freaking out about nothing and he is a genuinely helpful vet. His staff is great and I've never had a hard time making an appointment. Dr. Humphrey and the rest of the team are great! They neutered our dog Kono when we first moved to the Ballantyne area. I was super nervous because we had just moved and I didn't know which vet to trust. Thankfully I picked the right one (the yelp reviews helped me choose). With the season change and the re-seeding of our yard our pup started to get hives and become very itchy. I was pretty sure he was allergic to grass. We made an appointment to see Dr. Humphrey and I was worried we were going to end up paying a crazy amount to have him tested. Dr. Humphrey gave us a couple options right away and they were all affordable. He recommended that we put Kono on the shot for allergies because there were basically no side effects and it will start to show results in 24 hours if that was the medication he needs. Just moved to the area and was looking for a new vet for two kittens for their yearly vaccinations - not that impressed with these guys. The vet assistant didn't have a clue about how to weigh them and was handling them entirely too tightly causing them to hiss (which they have NEVER done at any other vet office - they are very friendly kittens and normally have no problems being handled). I was not that impressed with the interaction with the vet either - he didn't listen as I was giving their medical/vaccination history because this was the first time being seen here and in general just seemed like our visit was an inconvenience. They take such great care of our golden retriever and they always try and accommodate your schedule. Took my 3 month old puppy to a vet he's been going to normally because he was in severe pain and couldn't pee. They ran a bunch of unnecessary test and ran up a bill of $450 to tell me they have no idea and referred me to CVS who tried to charge me $1300 for more unnecessary test. Long story short my sister brought my puppy to this Clinic and they took very good care of him and now he is feeling a lot better. Best part is they gave me a very fair price of only $125. Big difference from the $1300 Carolina Vet "Specialist" tried to charge me. read more

On Monday my dog Puma and I visited Dr. Humphrey at Ballantyne Veterinary clinic. We were referred by a close friend who works for Faithful Companion (great company if your pet ever passes away) and we were definitely not disappointed. From the moment we booked the appointment the staff was nothing but amazing. They were so friendly as soon as we walked in the door for our appointment. They comforted puma and made sure he knew he was in a safe and friendly environment. All nervous fears left me as soon as we were greeted by Kim, who was a nurse alongside Dr. Humphrey. Her sweet personality and attention to puma was greatly appreciated! We talked about our dogs and their funny personality traits they had in common. They were gentle and calm with puma and puma was vise versa with them. He handled the shots and diagnoses treatments like a champ. He felt so comfortable in their presence and the veterinary environment. I cannot express my thankfulness for them and their knowledge in their field. Dr. Humphrey knew and diagnosed Pumas condition right off the bat by looking at his tail. He wasted no time in asking the right questions and taking the right steps to make sure puma was taken care of accordingly. He was also very kind and professional and I appreciated how I didn't feel like a paycheck with him. He really took care of us. Ballantyne Veterinary clinic is now our new primary vet and I am so glad to call this place our primary care. I will absolutely be referring everyone I know to them so they can also have only the best veterinary care in Charlotte.
