My daughter attended MelRoes for 5 years. She loved everything about dance and we loved seeing her…read morehappy to go each week, steadily we increased her classes each year. Once Covid happened our daughter participated in the online class videos and chats with her dance class. Around June, the studio decided to hold in person classes and we were hesitant. We had a brand new baby at home, so we decided our daughter would not go back for the season, therefore wouldn't be participating in recital. We made this tough choice because we didn't feel comfortable with taking the risk of exposure with a 2 month old. We informed MelRoes of our decision and we're told they would contact us to pick up recital items that we paid for once they came in. However, this DID NOT HAPPEN!!! After each attempt to collect the 3 recital costumes, tights and accessories I purchased I was given excuse after excuse as to why I could not get the items I purchased. Week after week I would see social media posts about costumes, recital costumes on friends of ours still in dance, posts about recital pictures etc. When I would reach out, ANOTHER excuse that my child's costumes weren't ready. Recital has since come and gone, STILL NO COSTUMES, TIGHTS, or ACCESSORIES. Recently posts were made on social media that brand new costumes were donated to charity and I wonder, "were those my child's?" I have been asking for what I purchased for OVER 5 MONTHS, still no costumes and what's worse, now, there is no response to my requests to make this right and give me what I purchased. The most disheartening part of this is my daughter had to suffer, she deserves her dance costumes, even though our family decided to end our 2020 dance season early due to a PANDEMIC, she should not be punished!! Moral of the review, think long and hard before sending your child to a studio that refuses to right their wrongs.

Parking can fill up early and not too many handicapped spots so dropping of my mom at the door was next best thing. Once inside, so many smiling patrons around. We headed to the bar, to checkout drink and food offerings. The Color Purple color changing cups held drinks. We tried: Frozen Sangria, Frozen guava lemonade (NA) and Vieux Carré cocktail. All were delicious! Adrian and LaVera were helpful and patient bartenders. There were a few vendor tables to checkout, including a The Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City promoting the upcoming productions. And for the most interactive fun, a tablet Photo Booth station, where the resulting picture had play brand border. There was an air of excitement, enthusiasm and friendly people all around. Our seats in the Terrace were very nice. Comfy seats, aisles with amble markers and space to pass as long as you stood up and the elevation of slopes for tiered seating was perfect, whereas we had a clear sight line to the stage. This made the acoustics and sound have a great quality and clarity. The entire cast was phenomenal. The well known story translated well onto stage. The drama, tragedy, triumphs, comedic timing was felt in every word, lyrics and various musical scores from entire company.

This latest production of Emma, which was staged at UMKC was one of the funniest shows I've ever seen! My wife agreed. It was a very interesting adaptation of Emma from Jane Austen. They also perform shows at Copaken Theater in the H&R Block building. Both locations are wonderful and we've seen such incredible shows as Brokeology, and Lady Day to name a couple. If you can attend a KC Rep production, I highly recommend it. We love supporting this theater because for one show every season they take it on the road and perform it for free at several locations all around the metro. They believe theater is for everyone not just people of means. That makes me love this company even more.

I recently saw an ad for the upcoming performance of Don Quixote and purchased two tickets for $235.00. These were in an upper level of the theater, not front row center of the Orchestra section. When I received the tickets, I was shocked to see the face value of the tickets as $25.00 each. Not only did I pay $185.00 more, getting the tickets from this third party person was a complicated process. My advice would be to only buy tickets directly from the ballet company. Also, I think the practice of selling tickets to people who will resell them at way more than face value should be stopped. I would liken this to scalping, which I thought was illegal. M.
