If you need a mechanic in Crieff these people are honest!!! :o)…read more Our car has been a bit slow starting, recently, I mean the ignition didn't seem to respond very well. We went up north, from Edinburgh to Comrie (near Crieff) for a couple of days and, hey presto, Sod's law when you're away from home, the car suddenly stopped firing up so we kept having to park it on hills and bump start it. Every time we did get it started we ran it for ages, to charge the battery, but it kept doing the same thing. We literally just happened to spot Strathearn Tyres as we were looking for somewhere to pull over and ring the RAC so wo pulled over into their yard and asked them to have a look anyway. The lovely man (the owner?? White hair, late 50s-ish) tested the battery and said it was fine so he had another sniff around and discovered that the copper cable that sends the message down from the ignition had worn right through, it almost looked like someone had sawn through it! He stripped the wire back a bit and put a new connection on- this all took him less than 10 minutes and he wouldn't take more than £10 for the work and part! He just said 'you could easily have been ripped off but we don't want to operate like that, we want people to come back with more work for us- £10 is more than enough'. Smiley, friendly, quick, HONEST and polite! We even went back as we'd forgotten that the tyres needed air and a young apprentice type filled them for us, with no charge at all. Kwik Fit would most likely have whipped the battery out straightaway and charged about £100 for a new one, and probably kept the car in for at least a day. We cannot recomend this garage highly enough- they so easily could have conned us, especially as they knew we were just passing through, but they saved our bacon! We took them a box of nice biscuits to say thanks :o)

We were on our way south - coming from Thurso. There are many viewpoints on the way. The glens and…read morescenery are just really breathtaking in this area. Needed to stretch my legs quick, so I stopped by this layby here - Layby 80. It only holds a handful of cars, but nobody else was there that day. It offers some nice views of the area. The glens, the green hills and mountains. It's a pretty sight - and there are so many amzing spots in Scotland - that's why I always love to come back. This stop here is fine for a quick break and a few pics. Not a must-do though...but if you got a few extra minutes.

ATS is one of these chain garages that seem to be found in most towns now. It seems to be the…read morepoorer cousin of the well known Quickfit and in some places I have found them to be a bit rough and ready. ATS as a group tend to be a bit cheaper than the aforementioned competitor and in some cases with garages this means either extras are added on to bump up the cost or the works not all that great. However what I have found with the Perth branch is helpful, friendly staff that explain exactly what's wrong and how best to fix it at the best price. The parts are guaranteed and on the one occasion that I did have to get something re-looked at (originally fixed at the Dundee branch) they carried out the repair without even looking at the receipt. A free tyre check is all part of the service so for me so far I have nothing but praise for them.

This is a great little garage, the owner Derry is so friendly and he makes you feel so comfortable…read morewhen he chats to you about what went wrong with the car, he explains what could be the matter and how much it is likley to cost, he even made me a coffee while I waited for him to access my car, he arranged for him to pick the car up the next day from my work, repair it and then deliver it back to me all fixed and ready to go. he sent the bill out in 2 weeks , so it would give me time to save up for the repair. really nice would recomend this garage to anyone in Perth or some one passing through that might have a problem or even getting the oil and anti freeze checkec and topped up.
