All five were unbearably hot. There's no air conditioning, and nowhere - not once - do they disclose that. During a heatwave, we were handed tiny plastic desk fans that felt more symbolic than functional. "The heat isn't on," staff said, helpfully pressing buttons on a thermostat that wasn't connected to anything. Performance art, not hospitality. But the heat wasn't the worst part. One bed had exposed staples and metal pins embedded in the headboard - right where someone's head would rest. I took photos. Raised it with management. Their response? "That's not representative." Which is strange, considering every single room we booked had issues. What you're paying for here is a dated property clinging to its past reputation, hoping guests won't look too closely. Tour groups come and go. Independent travelers? We're disposable. The one saving grace: the bar and waitstaff. They were attentive, warm, and clearly doing their best in a place that doesn't deserve them. I tried to resolve this privately. Gave them chances. Gave them time. They offered a token refund and shrugged off everything else. So here's what I'll say to the next traveler considering this place: If you enjoy sweating through the night, sleeping near embedded hardware, and being told your experience didn't happen the way you say it did - book the Dunraven. If not? Stay literally anywhere else.

From the small back deck you can look over this town all the way to the high cliffs that drop into the ocean, creating picturesque views of the orange, red and pink sunset. We arrived to a small sign personally welcoming us. Niall and Darra treated us like family while we stayed at their house and even dined at their table. They were personally acquainted with the entire area and gave us honest recommendations for spending our days there. We were able to see the Cliffs without crowds because of their directions. We then had the perfect dinner of local food at Roadford House where we walked along stonewalls past cows, horses, and sheep to the intimate dining room overlooking pastures. We ended the night by enjoying local music at O'Connor's Pub just a minute walk from the Sea View. We would highly recommend staying at the Sea View for at least a few nights on your trip to Ireland. The bathrooms are so tiny, I am 5'7" and my head was touching the ceiling almost. I had to stand sideways while taking a shower. The rooms are some of the smallest rooms I have ever seen. We had to put our suitcases on the desk ledge. The carpet is outdated and damp. We could not sleep at all during the night as there was constant banging from downstairs. The walls are super thin and you can hear people. There is no fridge. There is no complimentary ice machine, we had to grab some ice from the bar. There's only 3-4 parking spots near the lobby, if you park in the back, it is a pilgrimage lugging your things. Avoid at all costs. Do not be fooled by the posh lobby, once you're in your room, it's a whole other playing field.

Maybe it's hard to find food to fit the budget of the included meals in a tour group, so Ive been eating some version of chicken and mash at every meal. This time I went rogue and paid for my own meal and was treated to a delicious braised beef dish and toffee pudding. Best meal I had on the whole trip was from a hotel and I still think about that braised beef. Oh yeah, the view is pretty good if you get a waterside view room. I unfortunately got a view of the roof, but I won't let that deter me from giving this place 5 stars.

We didn't know until after we paid to park that, according to the front desk, the spots out front of the hotel that say 2 hour parking can be ignored and are able to be parked all night. Besides parking, everything else was great. Staff are very nice and we enjoyed our room. The view was also really nice of River Shannon. The hotel is a short walk to King John's castle, St. Mary's Cathedral, The Milk Market, and various bars and food. It's a great place to call home base for a few nights. I'd definitely stay again if visiting Limerick again.

I make it a point to visit this quaint small Irish town on the Shannon and stay at the Old Castle House. If you really want to get the feel for the Irish people and Irish hospitality, you must stay in any one of the fine Irish B&B's and this one is on the Tops of my B&B Recommendations for the West of Ireland. Finally got to meet Ester in person this last time around when I made a point to be staying on my birthday, and happened to be spending time with another American couple who was also celebrating a birthday on the same day, and The Dunne's made it memorable. Jack and Ester have become like part of my Irish Family. The Accommodations are cozy and comfortable and always well kept. Don't come expecting the cold and impersonal feeling of a 4 or 5 star international hotel, but rather the warmth, personality and coziness of a well appointed and comfortable Irish home. Fresh Eggs in the morning supplied by the Dunne's Chickens accent a wonderful Irish Breakfast and it's always a treat to finish off the evening with a couple pints and a dram around the corner at the Dunne's Bar est in 1820 then take a short walk back to the B&B to settle in for a cozy night's sleep. Glin is a small town on the Shannon where you can just sit by the stream with some tea and relax or, if you're like me, makes a good base for any number of day trips in the SouthWest and West of Ireland...for instance: to the Ring of Kerry & Dingle Area about 1 hour or so south, Foynes Flying Boat Museum (where the Pan Am Flying Boats used to dock and where Irish Coffee was invented) just 15 minutes down the road, Limerick City and King John's Castle about 30 to 45 minutes further East, Bunratty Castle & Folk Park (a must visit...give yourself 2 to 3 hours minimum) about 1 hour around the eastern end of the Shannon then head up to the Cliffs of Moher (about another hour or so further) and back down the west Coast of Co. Clare as the sun sets... taking a Ferry Ride across the Shannon from Kilmer to Tarbert. Glin is quiet and the 2 pubs, Dunne's Pub being one of them, don't serve food so with only 2 take away places in town ask Jack & Ester for a recommendation to one of the nearby Restaurants...The Old Stand Bar & Restaurant in Shanagolden (about 20 minute ride) is very comfortable with a very good menu and a nice bar or Enright's in Tarbert is quaint with a nice menu that usually includes fresh fish...but get there early.
