I am giving this establishment a four star rating for dining. We didn't lodge there although the grounds look beautiful. The restaurant looked very nice and is in an old manor and very clean. The staff is very nice but the drink service was lacking. Water wasn't refilled until asked same for alcohol. I had an old fashioned which was just syrup with low alcohol content. My wife had a passion fruit martini which she liked and her friend enjoyed her cocktail. The food was good but not excellent. For the price and build up as a Michelin star I was ready for amazing. The sourdough bread was tasty. I had the miso soup which was really good but a poor choice at an expensive restaurant. The scallops were very nice. The beef was good but we are from Texas where we prefer grilled steak. Loved the cheese plate the desert plate was good, the coffee ice cream was home made and the chocolate cake was nice . Our server was polite and knowledgeable.

An excellent spot to eat and drink! The food is spectacular and always special! The Allen family shows off their divine hospitality and their exceptional skills at this country home. A must visit when in Cork. Good place, year round!

Nestled in the East Cork countryside is Barnabrow house and neighbouring cottages. I was here for a…read morewonderful wedding weekend. Staying in the cottage called Sadie, we were impressed by the amount of space the kitchen and living room area consisted of. If you pushed the furniture to the walls you could have a barn dance or ceile. It was a grand comfortable cottage, which looked deceptively small from the outside. The main house, surrounding yards, buildings and decking have a lovely natural layout about them. They all fit together so well. The stonework, shrubbery and flowers, add the finishing touches to the outdoor decor. The ceremony room, while a tad hot with the warm day that was in it, was bright and airy. It was ideal for the occasion. After the knot tying, we moved to the decking for a cocktail reception. Which is quite nice, although not high heel friendly at all. The wooden slates setup to let the rain water drain through perhaps? But not wedding reception suitable at all, which is a bit surprising for a wedding venue. The dining room was laid out wonderfully and the food was fantastic. The couple opted for platters of sides and some yummy beef. Excellent idea, people could help themselves to what they wanted, to suit their own dietary tastes. Wait staff pleasant and on the ball. The afters were mighty craic, with the ceremony room turned into the dance floor. Regarding location, Barnabrow is ideal for Ballymaloe, Shanagarry and Ballycotton. And everywhere in between and around. I never actually made it into the main house itself, so cannot comment on that. FYI the locals pronounce it Barna-bro.
