Walking into the venue it was the proper old school Baltimore vibe; good drink prices, mature crowd, and plenty of seating. Ended up going on Dyngus Day, a polish celebration marking the end of Lent, which meant they had lots of beer and food (not typical, they don't serve food normally). They had great prices on drinks and food. Once I said how much I loved polish food, a plate magically appeared. The chapter president met with me and handed me an application. We spoke at length and really felt welcomed to the community. All in, it was a great experiences with no fluff or filler, just like I like my crab cakes. If I lived around the corner I would be a regular. This is the last stronghold of the old school Baltimore vibe I have found in the city. Highly recommend!

Everything was amazing. Ashley Murphy our contact for the club, was great with assisting setting everything up for us. We had no issues with parking, unlike last year, due to multiple events being held that evening, everyone loved the food, and the onsite Coordinator Antoine was a great help. I know we had a few guests who didn't RSVP and weren't on the official list I gave you, but Antoine was flexible and was able to fit them in. And the view of the harbor was AMAZING!!!!!

The building was constructed as the Haven Street Factory for the Steiner Mantel Company, which made mantels and other furnishings. The northern portion of the building was sold in 1910 to the King Cork & Seal Company, which manufactured gaskets and seals. The building has had many tenants over the years. The building has been restored to bring out the charm of its historic industrial architecture while providing upgraded technology and amenities.

I sat at the bar and quickly realized it was cash only, so I stepped upfront to use the ATM. The fee was $3, so I definitely recommend bringing cash ahead of time. I ordered an $8 drink, which was strong and very much needed--and shoutout to my bartender Tiffany, because she definitely took care of me. That drink was good, okay? After the first one, the drinks kept flowing, and the night really picked up. For food, I had the lemon pepper wings with fries and ranch. Even though I was already a little tipsy by that point, the wings were really good--flavorful, perfectly cooked, and hit the spot. And somehow, I even ended up with free food, which made the night even better. Just to be clear for anyone planning to come: they charge at the door after 8 PM daily, so make sure you have cash if you're arriving after that time. They also have happy hour, though I can't remember the exact hours--it may be 5-7 or 6-7--but they offer $2 off drinks, which explains the $8 price during happy hour. Also, while the bar is cash only, the food is separate and you can pay for food with a card. As the night went on, the music was on point--a great mix of old school and new school--and the vibes were just right. I made my way to the back where the dance floor is and fully immersed myself in the club/lounge atmosphere. I came around 6:30 and stayed until about 12:30, and honestly, I didn't want to leave. I had other plans later, but if I didn't, I probably would have stayed and danced all night. Even if you come by yourself, you won't feel alone for long. As long as you have an open personality and good energy, people will talk to you, dance with you, and make you feel right at home. I haven't been on a Monday yet, which is what they advertise for my age range (I'm 28), but I'm definitely planning to check it out. I also heard Sundays are house music, so if that's your vibe, it's worth stopping by. Will I be back to Melba's? Hell yeah. Did I have a great time at Melba's? Absolutely. It was a whole vibe. The outter reception room outside the main library hall is full of display cases with amazingly rare and incredible literary treasures. Each has great explanations and descriptions of the featured work. My only "complaint" is the restricted access to all of the library's levels except a few aisles on the ground floor. I'd have truly loved to explore more of this architectural gem with its abundance of literary and historic treasures. For those that do have access, I hope they appreciate the incredible privilege they have.
