The Bakers Wife - I've become a bit of a Chai Latte devotee and it's not just the taste I love but also the way it is served.

honestly, not impressed. we had a party of 6 for a 60th birthday party, spent close to $600 but…read morecould not sit at the "chefs round table" although it remained empty the whole time we were there. The eggs Benedict I ordered was fair. The scone it was served on was cold, the eggs were barely poached and there was a slight "sprinkling" of crab meat on the eggs. the French pressed coffee was very good and thankfully the group of friends that I came with was delightful. I would love to recommend this place to people I know because it's ambiance was very nice but unfortunately considering the price and the quality of food I would probably not put it on my list of places to revisit .

It's a huge space with lots of table space and lots of different seating options from lounges to communal tables and the basics. The service is the only thing that stopped the bakers wife from getting 5 stars! For how big the space is they didn't have enough waiters/waitresses to cover the room meaning your wait for service at times was long! Unfortunately for a first impression as well when your friend gets the wrong dish delivered to him and he has to get up to talk to the waitress, it doesn't leave the best taste in your mouth. It's saving grace was it's quality of product! The coffee was great, a really nice latte that really did the coffee beans justice. I had the French toast with the additional bacon, it was served with cinnamon, maple syrup and berries. The contrast of flavours was heavenly and Devine, leaving me satisfied, hooked and content to leave on that note. Overall it's a winner and it's new, do maybe by the next trip to the bakers wife it will be perfected! By golly tho don't pass it up!

"....CRISP CHURROS..POSSIBLY A BIT PRICEY..DISCOUNT DINING VOUCHERS ALMOST REFLECT TRUE WORTH...."…read more Visited yesterday afternoon.. armed with 3 x $10 Groupon Vouchers - total deal allowed the spending of up to $60 in-store or to take-away.. Well.. I purchased 4 boxes of 6 churros per box with 1 chocolate sauce each.. Cost $14.95 each. Yes.. they were freshly fried.. Yes.. they were crisp.. No.. they were not the best I've had.. 1. they were too thin - not enough texture inside them.. bordered on the dry.. 2. the oil wasn't flavour-some - this type of doughnut requires an olive oil blend - gives them an authentic taste.. I think these are cooked in canola oil - quite tasteless.. 3. each box should have come with a selection of dipping sauces.. not just the 1.. and especially not at that price..!! Plus:- We tried the dark chocolate and the white chocolate sauces - both real chocolate - that was a bonus.. Minus:- We were a bit disappointed with the size of them.. out of the 4 boxes of 6 - 24 in total - not 1 churros was anywhere near the length of the box.. and I do think they're supposed to be.. 12'' long..? I would NOT have paid $59.80.. the Menu price.. Rather, I do believe the $30 voucher price was nearly the RIGHT PRICE for these churros from SPANISH DOUGHNUTS.. Possibly $40 is the RIGHT PRICE - $10 per pack.. considering they've got to pay rent on Glenferrie Road.. Hawthorn.. If I see another voucher.. I'll buy again.. otherwise.. I won't.. I don't think.. I'll have to wait to see if I might get a craving for them, particularly!.. meaning them, in particular..!! Visited on Friday 25/09/2015 for Churros to take home.

Finally tried Millstone for brunch/lunch and I was really looking forward to it. It was this past…read moreFriday, so maybe not as busy as they'd be on a weekend, but even though they weren't completely full, service was exceptionally slow from the get go. We walked in and were semi greeted by staff rushing by to either deliver food to tables, or to do nothing. Though some staff were just overseeing things, they left us waiting inside the door for almost two minutes. Eventually when we could catch someone's eye, they seated us and handed us the menu. In my opinion, I found a lot of the service to be a bit pretentious and they favour looking after their regular customers and didn't treat us with quite the same "love." I ordered the eggs on toast with salmon and avocado and it was nice. It wasn't spectacular, but then again to me, it was the most appealing item on the menu. I found their menu is almost the same as any other cafe in Melbourne, and it gets boring after a while. The food itself was nice - though the toast was very dry - and the presentation was good, but not too exciting. What I was really wanting to try, was one of their incredible looking delicacies; beautifully presented desserts that are just mouth watering. However ... the service was SO slow, that it was almost 20 minutes since we'd finished eating our lunch, until they cleared our plates away. By now, we were going to be pushing it to get to our next stop on time, so we had to ask for the cheque. For ME, I find that doesn't matter how nice the food is; if your service lets you down, I probably won't visit again for a long time. I DO want to try one of their desserts, so I might make the effort to return at another time hopefully soon, but for a place with a menu that replicates anything you'd find anywhere else, and that has incredibly difficult parking, I wouldn't otherwise rush back here again.

The snicker domes were sold old by the time we finished but the pastries at this place are unreal. At least they look unreal because they always seem to be sold out. My smash was smashing. The kids enjoyed their porthole eggs or whatever they call it. One loved my pressed juice with orange, pomegranate and some other goodies. My wife enjoyed her dish as well. Service was happy and smiley. It was really lovely.
