I've probably been to Lockside at least a dozen times over the years, but there was a big gap between 2012 and 2018 when I was out of the province. I can honestly say that the place is exactly the same in 2018 as it was in 2012, although I imagine they'd disagree. Lockside is an interesting eclectic store with a wide variety of unique home decor items, furniture, clothing, and gifts. But be warned, it is NOT cheap. That place is on the high-end side when it comes to prices. Even their t-shirts are expensive. Over the years I've mainly browsed at Lockside because their stuff is too expensive to buy. But I have purchased a few small items now and again. The most frequent item I've bought is an ice cream cone! They serve Kawartha Dairy ice cream (the best ever) and they have a lovely outdoor area to sit and savour your ice cream while you watch the boats come and go from the Young's Point lock. The ice cream and location makes up for the fact that they're too expensive for the average person. You walk away thinking, "well, at least I got a good ice cream cone"! :-)

I even showed them photos of the high/cathedral ceiling, and mentioned "general lighting": I had done some research on internet and I thought this was what I needed. To their credit, they did suggest a basic circular fixture which was on sale for $22. Not attractive in any way, just bright. I began to look at other options, and found some lights that I thought would work. Staff were too busy to help me. I bought those, as well as a bedroom fixture and a fan. Probably spent close to $2000. The bedroom fixture is beautiful (tricky to install) and we've not yet built the room for the fan, but the kitchen lights are dimmer than the lights we bought for our condo kitchen renovation 15 years ago, and our bad bathroom lights. It's very dark in the kitchen, which had been so silly over these last months (husband spent hours installing them in September as a birthday gift...he shortened the wires and the store would not accept a return). We will gird our loins lol soon and replace the fixtures we bought ($400) with something HOPEFULLY EFFECTIVE. That wiseveral hours more work for my husband to install, and more money spent. The store has so many many different lights for sale, that is for sure, and there were some good discounts when I shopped but I feel I got no advice and would not return there. Will buy cheap unattractive strong ceiling lights at a store in Toronto, when stores open for in-person shopping again and husband feels up to all that overhead work.... Here is my kitchen at night

We came here to get…read moreinspiration and to check out some lighting IRL instead of just me imagining through Pinterest. We wanted some statement lights over our dining table and kitchen counters. I don't understand why there are such low ratings here. I'm sure many people here are just browsing, and I rather have a sales rep give us the space and only come to us if we need help and seriously find a piece we're considering. So I have no issues with how no one really came up to us. There's a lot of lighting, but personally, not enough contemporary/modern lighting to our liking. We did take some pictures of the few we liked that are more contemporary-inspired. However, we don't love it enough to pull the trigger. The prices for the lighting are very high for the ones we looked at, about $1500 (for that round chandelier) to $5600 (Criss Cross silver lighting). We liked the look of the round chandelier the most. To our surprise, our neighbour has the same one. So loses that unique appeal. Also don't know how we would change the light if it burns out? Lighting is all personal preference. This trip nothing really screamed "this is the one" for us. If you're into other design themes like traditional, industrial, mid-century modern etc, you may find there is more to your liking than the modern/contemporary styles here. I still recommend to check it out though for yourself if you're in the market for lighting.
