In fact, when Milo goes outside to potty, his feet get so cold, he hobbles around as though his legs are broken until we get inside to the warmth. I knew I had to get him boots at minimum. And, I wasn't looking forward to it. I know how dogs HATE boots. Thank goodness for Global Pet Foods. One of the staff members energetically ran over to help us try on boots. She found the perfect ones for them, and helped me get them on. She made the process so easy and even brought treats over for Milo so that we could make sure he could walk in his new boots -- he wasn't wanting to move otherwise! Then, we moved onto coats. They had so many options and sizes. I found him a perfectly fitting Canada Pooch one with a cute scarf to match. I just HAD to... (haha)! When I was checking out, I was laughing with the ladies running the store about all the hilarious winter gear for dogs out there. I brought up this knit hat with braids that I saw on the Canada Pooch website, and we just died laughing. They said they would like to try ordering some and would call me if they end up getting them in stock. Such a fun place to shop with great customer service. I want to drive clear across town every time for my doggie's necessities now. It's not the closest one to me, but I don't care ;)

My last visit, unfortunately, will be my last. Since expanding their raw food selection, Global has not kept up with educating their staff about canine nutrition, which made for an extremely awkward and painful experience listening to a staff member try to make it sound like she knew what she was talking about. Global has clearly caught onto a market that is demanding raw food nutrition for their pets, but has fallen sorely behind in backing these products up. There are many other highly knowledgeable sources available in the city if you are looking to buy raw food for your dogs, and I would highly recommend giving your business to people whose passion is extending genuine knowledge and sound advice regarding canine nutrition. In hindsight, I wish I would have brought my business to a local pet store anyway, rather than a chain that offers Air Miles and drives other small businesses across the street under...

I was on a quest to find a new food for my dog since my usual isn't coming across the border…read moreanymore, so Fairplay was a new choice for me. The store is huge! They have a great variety of toys, more than other premium stores I have been too. There is a good selection of leashes and collars. They have a great stock of bones and bulk treats. I got a great deal on 2 massive rawhide bones for $10! They are well stocked with dry and wet foods, although I didn't see any raw food. They had a huge section for cats too! No one initially asked to help me, so I looked at the dog food and grabbed one I thought would be good. When I went to the counter the lady asked if I found everything I was looking for. I told her what I was looking for and asked if the food I had chosen was good. She said it was, but suggested another food since my dog has a sensitive stomach. She also suggested a probiotic powder that you can put on your dogs food, she uses it for her dog. I had never heard of the food she suggested or the powder but together they sounded like what I needed. I was very happy with the overall selection that Fairplay offers! The prices seemed to be decent for toys, treats and food. I will definitely return to Fairplay for my pet supply needs!

They also have an exceptional range of food and dispensers for wild birds. The staff are very present and helpful compared to a big box pet store, without being pushy. There were no issues with her fitting in with the other dogs. When we picked her up, we noticed the handler aggressively correcting her with the leash (negative reinforcement). We had understood the daycare had a positive reinforcement policy. Beyond this being a bad training technique, it is useless with our dog as it makes her more excited. We did not say anything to the handler and brought it to the attention of the owner privately to see what was their opinion. He responded that both us and our dog are no longer welcome at his business.

I am a pretty protective dog dad and bad experiences tend to stick out, so I thought it was time to write about where we found that we are happy with! One day while at the Bowness off leash park, there were quite a few more dogs than usual. Turns out it was "park play day" where the daycare brings the dogs for some playtime in the park. The owner was there and taking pictures of the dogs, as it turns out he is also a pet photographer! Our dog turned out to be pretty photogenic and got some good pictures. My girlfriend got information about the daycare and the next week we started taking him there. The building is a good size inside and outdoor play area as well. On hot summer days there are kiddie pools set up where the dogs can jump in and cool down. The facebook page is updated often with pictures and videos of all the dogs so we can check in and see all the fun being had while we are at work! Brian, Janice and all their staff are amazing. They always tell us a bit about what our dog did, who he played with and such. We have never had any issues with the daycare. It is reasonably priced, with multi day packs available to save some money. They also do regular nail trims for him, sometimes without us even asking! Brian also has a professional photo studio where he does amazing work with the dogs. We took ours in for a Christmas photo shoot and ended up getting amazing pictures and Christmas cards done. I would highly recommend Back in the Pack, and I'm sure my dog would too!
