Review of BHA
Sadly my daughter attend the Banff Hockey Acadmey for the 20019/2020 season in hopes of being coached by Petra Pravlikova.
Petra has a lot to offer with being an Slovakian Women's Team member. Yet the owner seemed to step in and run the practices, the games and the dressing room.
The cost of the program was $32,000.00 it was to cover practice ice, busing, billeting, lunch/dinner, and exhibition games.
We watched as the season got closer to an end and so did the ice, from five days a week to two, to one to nothing. The first two showcases we saw the team take a bus, then that was replaced with two 15 passenger vans, the food was ok but some feedback was it as not fully cooked, was gross, and sometimes was not even edible.
The Billet home was awesome this family opened their home to six female players and in my option did a great job of keeping them in line and even offering to help the players out with schooling and appointments.
Petra was able to keep the core group of girls in Banff over the seven months even trying to keep my daughter in the program even after the owner called her a quitter. I really hope Petra will be able to turn this Acadmey around should she stay in Banff. Petra has the skills and knowledge to do so but needs the owner to step back. With her efforts the BHA would be have been a better place for all the girls on the team, as most lost respect for the owner Billy.
The owner Billy would yell at the players, call them names, tell them they suck, tell them they can't even play hockey, lied to many of the parents and players about a number of things that were promised (bussing being used for all showcases exhibition games against numerous teams across Western Canada the ability to help the player grow both physically and mentally as well as develop on the ice all lies) in fact most of the players took a step back with development
The only thing that was true was this would be a "losing year" as its was re build year and yet half the players did not want to be their. Sadly I'm not shocked with that type of attitude from an owner who would want to play or stay their.
It's sad as this program could be great and has had a number of really great coaches try and turn it around but it seams the owner (Billy) only wants to find parents willing to pay not to develop the players. Very disappointed in the experience, would suggest you look into the program and ask for real references of current players in the 2019-2020 program.
This is not just my opinion a few parents have voiced their concerns to Hockey Alberta and the CSSHL as Banff Hockey Acadmey is making a bad name for its self. It should be noted, Banff Hockey Academy's owner Billy was one of the pioneers behind the building of the CSSHL back in the day the program was one of the best in the west and did attract players from all over Canada or the US and overseas. Not really sure where it went wrong, even talking to past players, coaches and owners it's gone down hill and really needs a new owner to step in and fix it ASAP and bring back what the CSSHL was build for, development of the elite athletes along side of schooling.
I wish the BHA all the best and hope this will turn around for them in the future. read more
