Coming here was a lot of fun. I am a big Olympic junkie and enjoyed my brief visit to this…read morefacility. Canmore Nordic Centre was constructed for the 1988 Winter Olympics. Events like the biathlon and cross-country skiing took place here. They have exhibits near the dining hall with all sorts of memorabilia from those Olympics games. Today, the trails at Canmore Nordic Centre are used for hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing. This is a really nice facility to check out. Inside the day lodge are restrooms with showers, a cafe, and a dining area. Canmore Nordic Centre is also used for private events like weddings, meetings and other special events. Canmore Nordic Centre is located west of Canmore at the foot of Mount Rundle. My running group brought us here to run our last trail run for the week. It was a challenging run, but I enjoyed the beautiful views along the way. It was cool to see the flags on display next to the lodge from the different countries that competed in the Olympics. We got to run between them at the conclusion of our run. I even stood on top of the podium for photos after receiving my medal. Afterwards, we relaxed in the lodge and ate a buffet lunch in the dining area. Overall, this was a fun memorable visit. It was fun to take part in a competition on the same grounds that previous Olympians competed on. I would love to come back during winter and do some skiing here someday.

In winter they offer ski rentals, passes and lessons. They also have a cafe available for food and beverages and plenty of seatingin the lodge. There's a large private parking lot as well. The information desk is helpful for trail closures and wildlife advisories. You can also check their website beforehand for events and such. This facility was developed in 1986 to host the 1988 Winter Olympics. We loved seeing the row of country flags.

Want to experience heaven on earth? I did…read more Picture this: Sitting outside in the hot springs. There are only a couple of other people in here as well. You're sitting there, watching the steam rise into the fresh, brisk air. The springs are lit by the moon and the stars and it starts to snow. Your body is perfectly warm and comfortable and one by one, snowflakes fall into your hair. The steam continues to rise and you look up and make a wish on a shooting star. All is right in the world. This was one of my many experiences in the hot springs at the Aquatic Centre at The Banff Springs Hotel. When you first walk in, are greeted by a 32 metre indoor pool (which is 7 metres longer than an Olympic sized pool I'll have you know). There is also an indoor hot tub located at the side and it's surrounded by rock walls, so it makes you feel like it's a hot tub inside a mountain. Then, you go outside, and are welcomed by the indescribable hot springs which are surrounded by The Rockies. It's NEVER too crowded here, it's clean and it's truly heaven on earth. I cannot even describe how it feels to sit outside in the moonlit hot springs. The springs don't close until 10pm, so you've got a good number of hours to soak it all in. The locker rooms are pristine and they offer all products for their guests. Bath-sized towels, hair products, bath wash, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, hair dryers, you name it. Everything is kept clean and the crowd is monitored so that the hot springs are always welcoming and clean. I love it here. Truly. When I'm thinking of heaven on earth, I daydream of these hot springs and all my problems melt away.

Hey, When I went to…read morethe Rec Centre in Canmore, I really enjoyed it. They have a gym, the Cascade Fitness Room in the Rec Centre, that doesn't seem very big, but is a deceivingly good gym. It's got a family atmosphere, so it's nice because there are families there and not people on 'roids'. When I went there, I'd often joke with the people that work there at the front desk, They have a good sense of humour and are friendly. One of the good things about the gym was that it was close to my place. Even when my car was 'dead', it wasn't a big deal 'cause I could walk there pretty easily. It didn't hurt either that the Starbucks was between my place and the gym. :) The gym has quite a few things actually. I use to go through some different excercises when I went. They have really nice free weights that don't hurt your hands, some good stationary bikes and treadmills, an elliptical machine and a stairclimber too. They also have a place for bench press excercises. On top of that, they have a 'squat rack', which is a place to do free weight squats, pull ups, chin ups and even T Bar rows. The back extension equipment is nice, and is designed in such a way that people can also use it to do dips if they want to. Then, they have a mutistation part of the gym, where multiple excercises are basically put into one machine to save space. When I first saw the multistation, I didn't think it was all that great...but you know what...I was wrong. That multistation is AWESOME. They have a leg extension part of the machine that is really nice. One of the features of it is that there are multiple 5 pound weights that you can use between the 15 pound increments. So basically, people can increase the weight by 5 pounds instead of 15 on all the excercises on that multistation machine, which is awesome. The machine also features a really nice standing leg curl section, a lat pull down section, and a low cable section for tricep extensions and other excercises. One of the parts of that multistation that I love is the shoulder press/bench press section. It's nice because you're not 'locked' into the machine if you're doing shoulder press or bench press excercises. The shoulder press is fantastic. The bench press is really nice because it compliments a free weight bench press in that you can probably add more weight to the machine and give your muscles 'a different look' so that there is not as much muscle memory to the same excercise. There are also some nice mats to just relax and stretch. One of the nice things about this gym is that it is usually not too busy, and most of the people there seem pretty laid back, which is really important in a gym. They have a great view of the moutains there, so it has a nice feeling to it. The membership rate is unbelievable for a gym that has so much. 5 stars all the way.
