Cat owners, this isn't the place for you. Please go to a cat-specific vet. We've been taking my 8-year-old-boy to Banfield ever since he was a kitten, but it has gone downhill in recent years. Since COVID happened, they are no longer letting you sit in for the exam but none of the staff are even wearing masks anymore. You have to drop off your pet and they will keep them in their carrier for hours. We were the first people there at around 6:50 AM and he wasn't done until 5 PM. It was for his routine exam and dental cleaning. Whenever kitty gets dropped off for his checkups, they always have to call us to say that he's aggressive, hissing, and that they don't want to touch him. The only way to proceed with the exam is to sedate him. I understand that the vet can be a stressful place for animals, but there are clinics that know how to care for cats. My cat is usually very sweet, cuddly, curious, rarely hisses, loves being held, and is fine with being picked up. The only time he hisses is when he gets his nails trimmed. He didn't start acting up at the vet until about 2-3 years ago. I didn't think much of it until going to a cat-specific vet and had a positive experience. I go to school in Houston and my boyfriend brings his baby to a cat clinic. For those who are familiar with the Midtown Houston area, the place is called The Cat Doctor. My boyfriend's cat is much different from mine since she doesn't like being held or picked up and isn't very cuddly or as affectionate. She is also very shy when it comes to new people and hides when she's in a new place. It is always a hard time to get her into her carrier since she doesn't like to be picked up, so we were worried that they wouldn't be able to examine her or get her back into the carrier. I was also nervous since I've had bad experiences with Banfield, but the exam went by very quickly! They even trimmed her nails and gave her a new toy. We weren't able to sit in the clinic for her exam due to COVID, so we waited in the parking lot. While the exam took place, the doctor called us and let us know all about her health. We were also surprised that the vet mentioned that she was a sweet cat and that it was easy to trim her nails, since she absolutely hates getting her paws touched. We even had to ask "are you sure?" because we know that she can be difficult. They had no problems with her and she came back happily and with all purrs. That says a lot about their practice and that they know how to care for cats, compared to Banfield. I cannot speak on behalf of dogs, but I feel like Banfield possibly does a better job with dogs. Not too many cat owners take their babies to the vet, so the staff may just be undertrained or nervous when it comes to cats. Do yourself and your kitty a favor and take them to a clinic that specifies in cats only. It will be a much more positive experience for the both of you! read more

I've been trying to renew a prescription through chewys and my local banfield clinic for over a week and no one has responded to cheers fax. I contacted chewys and they put me on hold while contacting banfield, however, they refused to approve/validate the medication via telecom and insisted on another fax. Where have you been all my life? The services are more affordable than I thought, so I finally gave them a try. The various packages are very reasonable and the Technician did a great job of explaining the options. I had a very good experience at this Forum location. My dog was so anxious (as he is visually impaired) and was peeing and pooping all over the waiting area. I was mortified, but thankfully the staff helped me out and didn't make a big fuss over it. Once we got into to the exam area the Tech and our Doctor, Dr. Katz, were so kind and comforting to my animal. He warmed right up and had a great visit. The doctor took her time with him, and was very thorough. She explained our options and listened well to my concerns and observations. I felt really good about my doggie getting what he needs and I am really happy I gave this place a try. read more

I took my dog in because he was sick, and Dr. Mc Gehee was an extremely caring, patient vet ever. He gave me the sad news that my dog was too sick to treat ...I took my dog home that night gave him a bath, let everyone say goodbye, and took him back the next morning. They had a room for me and my family to spend time with my doggie before sending him away, he explained in great detail what.steps he was taking , he allowed us to stay in the room all the time to say our goodbyes. It was very painful since I had my dog for 13 years, but he made it easier for us..thank you Dr. Mc Gehee for your kindness and good heart ... I am eternally grateful. read more

I've been taking my (2) boxers to this location for over 8 years. Dr. Knowlton gives my pups extra attention while taking the time with answering any questions we might have. I appreciate the time and effort they are given at Banfield. My over experience is above average. Lately I have taken notice to the less friendly staff who has come aboard. In addition today I called the office on (3) separate occasions. I attempted to make an comprehensive checkup. I was left on hold for over 7mins on one of my attempts. Ultimately I decided to create a profile online, made my appointment that way instead. Took less than 7mins. read more

I walked in on a Sunday to get help with my 7 week old puppy. I had just found out that he had tapeworms and was seeking immediate care as I was very concerned. I was rudely told that they didn't take walk-ins and that even if I waited they wouldn't take me if time opened up. I asked to be put on a waiting list in case people cancelled but was again told "we don't do that." I was told I could have an appointment in 3 days time. I was not going to wait 3 days for a sick young puppy. After begging for the name of a vet clinic open, I was given the number for Friendship Pet Hospital where I was very warmly received. I have regularly used Banfield in the past for my other pets but will not be using them while living in San Antonio. I recommend Friendship Pet Hospital for all your veterinarian needs. read more

I have seen all the bad reviews but honestly we have had nothing but positive experiences here. We started using this facility in 2006. We have love back and forth from SA since then. However we keep going back to them because our fur babies have always been well taken care of here. Today I took my one year old Maine Coone mix in because I found blood in his urine. Dr. Katz and yes that is her name did a full exam on him. She found that he was expressing a stress hormone. She only ordered the tests to rule out all the other possible issues that we honestly could have lost him. She and the tech and I wish I could put a name here were the best. Tonight my furry is feeling so much better. I left with homeopathic ways of avoiding this issue in the future. Plus my kitty was rubbing and purring against Dr. Katz and the tech. read more

I was trying to get an appointment for walk-in service due to my pet injured herself on a Saturday but once at the store that said they were open on the Sunday I was told they don't take walk-in service. This would be nice to know on there information page about there operations. Been taking my dog here for almost 5 years. Wasn't ever overly amazed with the care/customer service but this time sent me over the edge. I have a 9 year old Aussie who has anxiety and has been taking the same medication for it (situationally) for said 5 years and I've never had a doctor fight me on the prescription before. I believe it was Dr Hayden. She's never personally seen my dog but we are traveling and I need his prescription filled, his last one had been filled in January and it's now end of May. The snarky look on her face, the interrogation of WHY I give my dog this medication and the clear judgement coming from someone who hasn't even seen my dog was honestly disgusting. She repeatedly told me there weren't notes on his file indicating he's been prescribed the medication or for what reason, they rlly need to figure out how to keep files updated because that's not my problem. Horribly mismanaged. It's like she didn't believe anything I said and every Dr he's seen before has agreed that this medication is great for anxiety so long as user situationally. In the same breath of basically saying my dog shouldn't be using this medication, she was asking why we did 100mg which apparently is a low dose? It's not. I found her very rude and honestly speaking out of turn about a pet she's never treated/seen. Peace out, we won't be back there. I brought my dog to this location for the entirety of her 12 years. There were never any issues until 2019 when my dog became paralyzed, first time in this situation I called her vet, and they told me to bring her in. I had her in a shopping cart and the woman at the front desk wanted her weight, I didn't think I should be moving her as much as they were asking me but the comment from that women I will never forget "oh, she is paralyzed". They in no way could help and she got her surgery at Blue Pearl (they could have referred me and not had to go through this, I was even sent to the ER and they couldn't help and the ER was the one that pointed me in the right direction). In 2021 she would be diagnosed with cushings and Dr. Evan McGehee got me through it all, the only complaint about this would be medication. There were times they were out of medication, which I didn't understand if you're diagnosing patients how do you not have enough to distribute? Another time she stepped on a wasp and they would absolutely not help and suggested nothing other than taking her to the ER or if I could get in at another Banfield. Even the lady at the front desk was upset that she seemed someone in the back didn't want her to help me (cause they're weeks booked up, and you're S.O.L). I took her to the Banfield in Windcrest and the tech at the front desk told me about Benadryl and some at home basics(the Windcrest location always seems to try and get you through your situation, if possible). Ever since COVID the only way they'll see your pet is if you drop off at 7am and get called whenever and that might be within a week of what might be going on with your pet. To actually go, in a room and see the vet is now (2023) a month or more scheduled out. The last time I took my dog was May 2023. She had scratched herself, it was oozing and I thought she'd at least need some antibiotics. I dropped her off at 7:45am (cause they again, would offer no help, unless there was a appointment, and I didn't want to leave her for a long time cause she needs water because of the cushings disease). The doctor finally called at 4:15pm that her heart murmur was up to a 4 out of a 6, and that I could just put Neosporin, $100. Right when we got out to the parking lot she had to urinate, she got home and drank two large bowls of water. The day she was being tested for cushings was a 8 hour process (her symptoms prior were drinking a lot of water and urinating, I didn't want to leave her cause I suspected they would not take her out as much as she would need, and I stayed with my dog). For the amount of time I sat at the Banfield side of the store, the only time they took any dogs out was to collect a sample (no water, no walks). In 2023 it seems they're understaffed, overwhelmed and completely mismanaged. I will never take any pets back here. read more

I love my pets, and since they need more medical clearance and paperwork than my family does to move to Europe, off we went in search of the nearest pet hospital for our shots, microchips and certificates. PetsMart is a reputable name, so we called up Banfield and explained our upcoming departure. The very nice young lady on the phone audibly blanched and told us to call the German consulate to find out what was needed. No offense, but shouldn't the pet folks be a lil more on top of those requirements? Isn't there a list somewhere you can access and find out for me at $30something a visit? Nevertheless, I called the consulate, got the information, then called back to make appointments for the dog and the cat. I asked the same young lady for a total and when my head stopped spinning, I sputtered, "$260? For SHOTS?" She was quiet a moment, but suddenly cheerful, said, "Yes, ma'am." I sullenly made the appointment and informed my husband, who promptly paled. Upon arriving at Banfield, we waited almost 10 minutes for someone to come to the desk to check us in. Employee after employee walked past us, standing at the empty counter. Unreal. Eventually, a very pregnant woman in scrubs came out and took our information, then asked us to weigh the pets. I'm sorry? You want me to weigh the pets? Are you going to give me a paycheck to do it? She pointed to a scale beside the desk and told us to put them on there. I pointed to the carrier, and couldn't find the words in that moment to suggest WHY pulling a pissed off kitty out was NOT a brilliant idea. She promptly brought me a kitty leash, and the cat almost choked himself. Ah well, at least we know he weighs 14 lbs, and that's the most important thing. The dog wasn't a problem until we finally got into an exam room. The poor tech had to muzzle him, as he was NOT receptive to having his temperature taken. Can't say I blame him. Would you? When the tech left to go get the microchip and shot equipment, I glanced at my watch. It read 2:29. She returned at 2:54. C'mon... how long does it take to grab that stuff, load up the needles, and get back??? I had two irked beasts with me, not to mention myself and my husband! At the end of the experience, we we reminded them that the health certificates had to be issued no more than 10 days in advance of travel. We booked the appointment, and it suddenly occurred to me that we MIGHT have to pay a follow up fee. I was wrong. We have to pay for a full office visit for EACH animal in a few days when we bring them back. They couldn't give us a break??? Anyway, kind staff, but slow as hell. read more

Okay, so I just took my kitten in to get spayed and while it was supposed to be a free service (because they take $22 from my account every month), it ended up costing me an extra $80!!! So, here's what happened. I dropped her off at 7 am and around 2 pm I got a call from them saying that because she was in heat they would have to charge an extra $58. I didn't know she was in heat because she didn't exhibit any symptoms, but maybe they should find out first before they open her up and I have no other choice but to pay $58. Next, when my husband went to pick her up, they told him it would be another $20 for her pain medication. So, what should have been no cost to me ended up costing nearly $80. I think they should have communicated this to me before I dropped her off. I would have damn well made sure that there was no way she was in heat. read more

I just have to comment on this company (this store in particular) - the other two reviews are far from fair and give the store a terrible overall score. Banfield is a chain - and are run differently then private companies - but this does not mean that every person there is out to get money from people. The vets there DO care about your pets. Pets are like children - they aren't cheap - sometimes their medical care costs more than anticipated (this is the same even with human insurance and medical care, sometimes you just have to pay more). That being said, this is my story before I comment on what others have said. My dog is13 years old and has always been in good health - no medical emergencies, always passes any tests given and up to date on her vaccines. Not a month from the date of this review, my father gave her table food which consisted of some Church's Fried Chicken - and it upset her stomach and caused her to vomit. - that is where the problem began. She aspirated her vomit and it gave her pneumonia and she almost died. Not only did my primary vet (Dr. K) SAVE MY DOG, she was CARING and UNDERSTANDING the entire time. I took my dog in 5 times in one week. She was concerned for both my pet and wallet - and I assured her every time I didn't care how much it costed - and to do what she needed to. Some vets would take advantage of that - she DIDN'T. She insisted on telling me the prices for everything to make sure I was still okay with it. (At the time, my dog was on the Wellness plan for 32.95 a month and some of the testing and things were not covered under the plan - I have since upgraded). As of right now, my dog goes in once a week for her arthritis treatment - which will be lowered to once a month soon. Yes, after all was said and done, I spent money, but it was far less than an emergency vet clinic and private vets. I spent just shy of 500 out-of-pocket (I had x-rays taken which are not covered under the general care plan - but are under the special care plan) The other reviews are older - but I still feel need to comment and show people looking this company up sees a newer review. The wellness plan is the way it is because, yes, the services can be expensive. Office visits are 39.95 - which you do NOT pay for under the plan. Thus, if you go for emergencies or more than once in a month - it pays for itself. You also get certain services covered (usually twice a year type things - almost all vaccines are covered) and additional services for a percentage off based on the plan level - I get 20% off additional Services like meds, tests, ect. And that being said - this IS A CONTRACT - it's something you should think before doing, and make the conscious decision that it is a commitment and the girls at the counter CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH for you before you have to call the customer service line. But, trust me, if you actually use the plan the way it was intended - it pays for itself. This all being said - in relation to the other two comments - And forgive if I come off rude: If you plan on moving overseas - or even just taking your dog on a flight (kennel size requirements) I do not believe it's the employees job to know the standards for plane travel or vaccination requirements. Banfield does not have a specialty in overseas travel- vaccinations or otherwise. It's the pet owners responsibility to seek out this information before making an apt - as, even IF they did know this information - It's far better to know the information yourself just in case the information be wrong or outdated. Now - whoever the woman was that had the customer remove the cat from the crate did not think the situation through - that is obvious - but the scale is not rocket science. Now - they normally leave the pet in the crate and subtract a pound or two for the size of the crate. It's not hard. Nor is it hard to walk 15 feet from the counter to the scale to put your pet on it. Why stress out your pet more by handing them to a stranger when you can easily do it yourself? Also? It's a medical facility - sometimes you just have to wait. They have a limited staff and sometimes have to multi-task when it's busy - and this store is located in a VERY BUSY SHOPPING CENTER. 10 minutes is hardly a deal breaker. And those nurses also juggle multiple rooms - so the visit may take longer. Deal with it. All that being said: This office IS WORTH IT, and so is the wellness plan they offer. The people working in that office CARE for you and your pet and are there to help you - not swindle you. The world is run on a transfer of money - sometimes it's not cheap. They learn your pets name - they learn your name. People that don't care wouldn't bother. Go to this clinic if you want fantastic care for your pets at a good price. There's no such thing as a cheap or free pet. There's nothing wrong with looking for a deal - but sometimes you can't avoid high costs. I'm not sure why it's only this location but they are all simply rude and never actually listen to what you have to say whether it be on the phone or in person. DEFINITELY need to take some training courses on customer experience, smh. I simply asked that one of my dogs have ONLY BORDATELLA and the only be updated on the 4 we usually get him. Since it was a drop off, I was under the assumption they would be listening and marking down everything since I was not going to be there. When I receive there records at work, they BOTH were updated and gives hookworm tests that I didn't ask for. Yes they were both insured but the point is, is that that's NOT what I asked for and I told he lady multiple times and even said can you repeat it to me because I don't believe the lady that I spoke to on the phone was listening. Ive always known that you have gone three staff because of your doctors and no one being able to get along but this is where you all need to shape up! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS LOCATION. New Branfuels is about a 30-45 minute drive from me but I'm definitely willing to drive because they were absolutely great!!!! Loved them and the girls there helped me fit my dog in the day before thanksgiving and were nothing but caring, nice lovely people. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!! I have 5 dog, yes 5 dogs at this vet hospital. I even PAY for their insurance for 5 dogs. I have been taking my dogs there for 5 years. Everything was Great I had no problems ever getting my dogs in or medications. They looked after my dogs like that were my own. That was until 1.5 years ago. They had a staff change or something but now you can't get in for your dogs and heaven help if you have an emergency. They don't care about your animals anymore. These people could care less about them. I have been lied to about appointments I have been lied to about prescriptions. They almost OD one of my dogs if I had not caught it myself. I sent so much business there when I first started going that I now recommended you go find a place that actually cares about your animals. The vets here are good but the staff couldn't give a flip, unfortunately it's the staff that runs the place and don't do their jobs correctly and this can be dangerous for pets. This was like the 5th time that I had trouble with this location so it isn't a one time event. This was the final straw when I had gotten up one morning and my little dogs back legs were not working and she couldn't move and pissed in the middle of the floor staring at the ceiling. I had to go to work so my husband had made an appointment for them to see her. When he arrived he was turned away and told to go to another vet. Well he went to an emergency care hospital who was very good with her and quickly found she had a herniated disk. The vet at ANOTHER place said it was common due to her height length ratio and to follow up with her vet. She was barely looked at a week later gave her shots and refilled her med at a higher dose. I was told to call a few days later if I felt she needed them since it was a controlled substance but to keep her immobilized if possible. So I did this. I called again today and was snottily told it wasn't ready and it says on the bottle that it would take 10 days to fill. I thought this was odd and when I got home I looked at the bottle and it does not say anything about 10 days or even 2 days. Well it was the last time I was willing to be lied to so I called back and was very angry that the would want an animal to suffer so much. Needless to say I am just done with this place completely. I spend a lot of money on my dogs there and they lied to me over and over about appointments, meds, visit cost and follow ups. I have only had one other vet that was worse and that vet nearly killed my dog. read more

I was really impressed with the service I received here. Both employees at the desk were on the phone so the manager came out to help me. Due to some paperwork issues, the groomers in Petsmart weren't able to clip my dogs nails. Having already been turned away for something else from my vet previously that day, I was feeling a bit discouraged. They referred me to the Banfield desk as their protocol I suppose is a bit different. Needless to say, the manager Nick (?) was very kind and really went out of his way to accommodate me so that my errands weren't a total waste. I had previously been to the San Pedro location and had a bad experience so this definitely helped sway me back. May even consider changing vets! read more

I had a wonderful experience here on Sunday 4/19/2015. I made a same day appointment earlier Sunday morning, all of the other Banfield Pet Hospitals were booked solid and the girl who I spoke to at the Forum location actually checked with the veterinarian to see if there were any openings and they had one. Starting with the reception, they checked me in and verified all my information was correct, it wasn't so they fixed it. I arrived early in case of any paperwork to be filled out, there was none necessary even as a new patient. I was actually seen only 10 minutes after my appointment time so we were grateful for no long wait. I would like to take special notice that two of the vet techs actually came out before placing me in a room to verify that my dog had all his shots, most importantly his Parvo shots, because the puppy who was in the room prior to us was very sick with symptoms of Parvo. The first person we saw was a vet tech and she was extremely informative of their wellness plans, I asked about 50 questions about it and she answered them all, she recommended things based on what we were in for and by the time we saw the vet most of my concerns had be addressed. The vet went over our lab work and examined my dog thoroughly, recommended almost exactly what the tech did and we were on our way with a smile. All in all, we only paid $87 for full blood work, rabis shot, heartworm test, dewormer, and a full exam. We signed up on the wellness plan and were able to pay monthly for our year supply of Trifexis to treat and prevent fleas and heartworm. I am so glad we found a wonderful vet office who is efficient and not pushy with their products and don't recommend unnecessary tests. read more

The staff at this clinic are phenomenal! I've been taking all 3 of our dogs to this location for nearly two years now and have never once had any issues. They always explain everything in detail before doing anything for our pets (shots, procedures, medications.. Etc). We have occasionally had to wait for our appointments but this is a very busy location and any reasonable person would be able to see that instead of just slamming the staff for having to wait a few extra minutes. The techs have always been very professional and patient with us during every visit. They're extremely kind to our babies and are very gentle with them. The doctors are true professionals as well. Friendly, competent, informative and thorough. All in all...I am thankful to have such a great veterinary staff to care for our babies. Okay so I absolutely love the people who work here. They're amazing, very nice and very helpful. In the times I've been at banfield I've never had any negative or bad experiences. However, my pup recently got diagnosed with parvo and she was in their care for a few days. She wasn't showing any progress so they recommended we take her to the emergency room and have her put on aggressive treatment. Which I understand would cost quite a bit of money, $1500 quoted. We already spent hundreds on having her there and we didn't have that money to pay off the bat. They recommended we apply for the credit card so that we can pay it in payments, which is okay. But I knew that would be just another bill added that I know I couldn't afford to pay off in 6 months with no interest. The vet at the time told me that she didn't want to spend our money having her there anymore since she knew she wasn't making progress, she would rather have that money go as a down payment towards the aggressive treatment and I kept repeating that I just don't have that money and I can't afford it. I told her that I would just take my puppy home and see if we can treat her ourselves. And what she told me next really pinched a nerve......she said at this point it would "INHUMANE" to take her home and treat her ourselves because she only had a 20% of living at home as opposed to paying the money to treat her and if we can't afford it she recommends just putting her to sleep! As if that comment didn't already make me feel like crap. I was devastated that my puppy was sick but I had read stories about how treat a puppy with parvo at home and if we don't have the money then we were going to do just that. It's been a week since she's been diagnosed and within two days of treating her at home she's eating and finally drinking on her own :) she's running around and barking up a storm and just being her sassy crazy self like she was before she got sick. I understand that sometimes it's taking risks to treat the dog at home yourself but don't tell the owners of the puppies that it's Inhumane if we take them home knowing that we don't have the money to pay for treatment. Point of this review is to Be a little more considerate as we are already feeling horrible about their sickness. read more

i had a coupon to get a free exam for my older almost 10yr old inside only cat who suddenly came down with an unexpected health issue . The ladies upfront were very nice and also the young lady who checked my cat before the lady vet came in the room to check her over. I would like to give Dr L. Diem an open Thank You for being so nice and understanding and compassionate to me the whole time. She got a second opinion right away from the other vet and even though it was bad news she was honest in a very compassionate way while i stood there upset. She gave me all the honest options which in the end was all mine because there was no guarantee after surgery my cat would be 100 percent well is what helped me make my decision after calling my family which she gave me total privacy in the room until i had my decision. She knew how hard this was to have to make my decision to put her down and was very respectful to me the whole time and gave me a hug before I left because i had came in by myself and I just wanted her to know that i will always appreciate her kindness for those moments that I really needed it. Wish I would have read the reviews first. This place is a perfect example of people that are just in it for the money. I called to make an appointment, asked how much the office visit was and was informed that it was 40$... I was expecting it to be that much. The girl on the phone knew I was bringing in 2 cats. She failed to mention to me that it would cost 40$ per cat... So that's 80$ to see a vet for about 5 mins who spent most of the time talking about flea meds Which I had informed her that I already ordered online (still tried to add them on my bill at the end after I already said no twice). My cats had something going on with their eyes, I went on a Sunday, it's been 3 days on Meds with zero change. I spent 180$. I called back up there today to see if I should bring them back in and she said to wait a few more days... But I would have to pay another 80$ office visit fee because the vet apparently doesn't know what she's doing. Total bs. read more
