I've been here a couple of times now and am always pleasantly surprised by the taste & quality of the food, and warmness of the staff. Obviously, it's downtown Boston so prices can't compare to the $5 banh mi I used to enjoy in the burbs, but Banh Mi Ok hits the spot! I've come here during busy lunch hours (~12:30pm) and there was barely a wait (they are really efficient too). The staff are friendly and have a nice family vibe. Once, we went near closing time & they gave us free steamed buns that they weren't going to sell that day. My only gripe is that they're only open until 5pm and closed on Sundays which are often when my banh mi craving kicks in :( (my favorite is the House Special sandwich but the Grilled Chicken and BBQ Pork Roll are great too (although bbq is a little sweet for my preference). Amazing, fresh, crunch, meaty bon me sandwiches. The only one I have ever had was the roast pork, but it's all you need. It's filled with a sort of Chinese style pork that's salty, fatty and delicious. They load it with crispy veggies, jalapeños, cilantro which I ask to leave out, and the most incredible spreads and pates on the bread. The bread it's self is so perfect for the sandwich. It's flakey, and a complete mess to eat but it holds the food so well and is so crispy I find the mess endearing. And it's only 10$!!! Best lunch for a nice spring day or to eat on a bench. Stay clear unless you are ok with your food being microwaved in plastic containers. I watched them put my pho in the microwave for 2 minutes in plastic and I was horrified. The dac biet never fails to satisfy my cravings and the sandwich is full of flavor from the meat, pate, and their special spicy fish sauce which really makes the sandwich special. I've been here several times and it is my go-to spot for banh mi. Dropped by here to pick up a sandwich and spring rolls for a takeout lunch. Ordering was easy and quick, and the sandwich was made to order. The house sandwich is little bit different than other bahn mi sandwiches I've had in the past because the meat is thin sliced (they have other sandwiches that aren't this way), but it was packed with lots of flavor and was good. The bread tasted fresh and was crispy, as you would expect from a good Vietnamese sandwich. The spring rolls and peanut-butter-hoisin also tastes exactly as you'd expect from a good Vietnamese place. Absolutely delicious. Sweet, salty, a tiny bit spicy, veggies and herbs so refreshing. I would actually recommend the bbq pork sandwich to everyone that I know. Yes, the bread is crunchy and flaky, but if you just lean into it you realize it actually makes it better - with a super soft bread, the softness of the spreads, pate, and meat might be too much. Plus, the bread is extremely fresh. If you want, you can just compress out the crunchiness of the bread a little while it's still in the wax packaging. I did that today and it did elevate the sandwich a little (I'd had it once before). If you're into all the best flavors and textures, just go here. I was so excited to find out this place by accident while walking to work one day. It located right across the street where I work at and I didn't even know about it. Unfortunately, this place is so over rated and over price! For $9 a Vietnamese banh mi and with 4, 5 stars review. I expect something outstanding. Unfortunately the sandwich is below average. I got the house special banh mi and they gave me stale bread with little meats, and the bread is very dry. On top of it, it was half burn on the outer skin. The liver pate and sandwich as a whole is lacking in textures and too bland. There is no soy sauce and the mayonnaise is tasteless. I also brought the spring roll and the avocado shake. The spring roll sauce have no flavor in them. The avocado shake is not blending well enough that there are still huge chucks of fruit still in the smoothie. Compare to other banh mi shops in Boston like Ba Le, Kinh Do... in dorchester or even Banh Mi Huong Que or 163 Vietnamese sandwich in Chinatown. This shop is way below their standard. Banh mi: crunchy, fresh and tastes great, especially the sauce! Good amount of cold cuts inside as well as you can see in the picture! Avocado smoothie: absolutely amazing!!! Not too sweet and really creamy, just like the one I would make at home by myself. Service: the staff is super friendly and the store is clean and nice! They also have a couple of seats inside as well. Price: a bit on the higher end for what you usually want to pay for banh mi, $8 for the house special and grilled beef, $7 for everything else. I moved to Ohio and have not been able to find a decent sandwich anywhere east of the Mississippi (that isn't true...I had an amazing one in Old Alexandria, a suburb near Washington DC.) I saw this shop in downtown Boston and didn't expect much. Upon entering, I was impressed with the Ingredients lined up. The staff was friendly and happy. The store was bright and airy did a tiny shop. I ordered the house special and taste tested it. I was blown away at the perfectly light and crisp bread. The flavor was an umami bomb. It was spicy, sweet, tart and savory. I loved the cold fresh herbs used (cilantro and spring onions). The carrot and daikon pickle was perfectly pickled. I typically do not add mayo and forgot to request that the condiment be omitted. I am glad I forgot. The mayo added an extra layer of unctuousness. I had friends taste it and they agreed it was one of the better sandwiches they tried. It reminded them of the Banh Mi vendor from Vietnam. The sandwich was so good, I came back the next day and ordered two. My friends ordered their own because I refused to share. 1000% I would return to Boston and make this place a pit stop for food. read more

I needed my monthly bubble tea fix & returned to Bahn Mi Ok to try their thai milk tea. Even on a sunny Saturday afternoon (1:20pm) there was a small line in the cramped shop so be prepared. The staff were efficient and friendly as usual, and when the gentleman in front of me was taking a while to order, a separate staff member got my attention to ask me for my order so that she could prep it in advance as I paid. The thai milk tea was solid-- it tasted authentic and was not too sweet. Boba was the perfect texture as well. As always, Bahn Mi Ok knows how to make good quality bubble tea! read more

While exploring the area I stumbled on this banh mi shop and I'm so glad I did. First, Brian the owner greeted me with a warm welcome. I tried the bbq pork and beef banh mi's and both were delicious. My wife has been looking for a new Banh Mi shop since one of her favorites in China town has closed due to Covid. We've been looking for a new shop and this place checks off all the right boxes. Bread: Crunchy and crisp unlike some other shops where they served undercooked mushy bread. Meats: The beef was juicy and well seasoned and the bbq pork was crispy and savory Sauces: perfect balance where there was enough flavor but not over powering Vegetables: fresh! My only regret was that I didn't take any pictures to upload because we ate everything so quickly. This place is going to be busy when things open up. read more

I've tried their BBQ pork and vegan bahn mi and liked them both! They really don't skimp on the fillings, which I definitely appreciate! The only downside is that since they've opened up relatively recently, it seems that they've (deservedly) attracted a good number of people during peak lunchtimes, resulting in longer lines for their smaller store. I felt for some reason the pork had more of a cha sui flavor than a Vietnamese flavor. the staff here is also very nice. I definitely will come back and try the other meat options. tip: they do have a hot sauce you can tell them to add. I came here with a coworker during our lunch break and can't get enough of the banh mi and smoothie that I ordered! I ordered the grilled beef banh mi and it was delicious. Perfectly seasoned, fragrant and plentiful! They don't skimp on the portion size and was filled by the end of my meal. I ordered the avocado smoothie to top it off and it was super fresh, perfectly sweet and great for the price! For $4.50, you get a large size. Went to this place randomly bc I was starving and had to drive back to Lowell. I got the combo special banh mi and the spring rolls. The banh mi had their own special sauce and it was so tasty. I wish I had gotten another one instead of eating my bfs. The spring rolls was with shrimp, it was alright. It was just a little hard for me. Definitely ordering there again if I'm in town ! A great new banh mi addition to Boston. The shrimp spring rolls are great, the peanut dipping sauce is flavorful with a light spice level. The cold cut house special banh mi (S1) is very good. The baguette is high quality and all the ingredients are fresh. The sandwich is fairly large as well. The (S4) bbq pork banh mi is very popular, but I have not tried it yet. They have lots of other banh mi options and Vietnamese rice plates if not in the mood for a sandwich. The restaurant is very clean and service is very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend banh mi ok if you are in downtown Boston looking for a good banh mi sandwich or other Vietnamese food. The first thing you notice is that it's clean and well-kept up. All places should be like this, but many in this area are not. The Banh Mi sandwiches are delicious. The ingredients are fresh and flavorful. The bread is chewy and fresh . . . I'm not sure it it's unique to Banh Mi, but I it was the right type of bread for this kind of sandwich. We are visiting Boston with our granddaughter, a Vietnamese food aficionado. We hit upon this restaurant because it was close to Beacon Hill and Boston Commons, and it had a 5* Yelp rating. It did not disappoint. We tried the egg rolls, chicken Banh Mi and the house special Banh Mi, which had a combination of meats. I also tried the Thai iced tea, bubble style. All was excellent. The restaurant is reasonably small, with limited seating. But we were here over the busy noon hour and our order was ready in 5 minutes. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. My partner and I noticed that a new banh mi restaurant opened in our neighbor. Banh Mi Ok did not disappoint. We got everything to split: the BMO house special sandwich, the BBQ pork banh mi sandwich, and the shrimp Vietnamese spring rolls. We also each got a Vietnamese coffee with boba. The sandwiches: generous filling, perfectly balanced with veggies/herbs. bread was so crispy and fresh. all the meat was so moist and tender. The spring rolls: ok that SPICY PEANUT SAUCE? incredible. rolls were super fresh and crisp. The Vietnamese coffees were also so good. The space itself was so bright, clean, and airy. There's a glass partition where you can see them assemble youwr order. And the family that runs the place? You can tell they're incredible proud of their work and ensuring they're feeding their customers well. My partner and I plan on coming at least once a week now to try the rest of the menu. Excellent experience. We ordered a BMO house, BBQ pork, and spring rolls with two Vietnamese iced coffees. The shop had a very welcoming atmosphere, and the family who runs it were all very friendly. The sandwiches were fantastic, with a good balance between meat and veggie. The BBQ pork (which was super tender) was our favorite. The spring rolls had a very mint forward flavor which I liked, but the sauce really made it. A little bit of heat helped to kick it all up to a higher level.
