This is a small shop with a counter and a few stools that face the street. I ordered the grilled pork. It's tasty, but I don't think it's that authentic. The meat was fine, but it could have had a bit more depth to the flavor. The bread is crusty, but as someone else mentioned, not crunchy to the point of being difficult to bit into. I'm a huge fan of the special mayo they use -- so creamy, so good, but they either didn't use it or skimped on it, because I don't really recall much of it. I also think that it could be a bit more generous with their portions. Also, everyone who works there speaks Chinese. It is completely possible that they are vietnamese who are ethnically Chinese and hence speak the language but are familiar with Vietnamese food. it does though seem a bit "Americanized" so that's probably a moot point. read more

Came here with my friend who loves this place. We got the spicy chicken bahn mi. The wait was about 10 minutes, which isn't bad. The chicken was so tender and spicy like they advertized. It was layered with Sriracha, just FYI. The veggies are crunchy and nicely pickled. The bread was toasted and not too hard, hooray! So far I have gotten a pork banh mi, vegetarian roll and strawberry bubble tea from here. The sandwich is really good the pork is cut very thinly and they will actually adjust spice level if you ask. The bread was pretty fresh, the meat was nicely grilled (a bit charred, but I was into it), and the pickled carrots added nice flavor. The price on the bahn mis decent, but they don't put much meat on the sandwiches (I would have bumped this review up to four stars for a little more pork). We went with the traditional (grilled pork, pate) and grilled pork - both phenomenal, hitting all the marks for banh mi: fresh crunchy French bread, sweet and savory pork, and nicely pickled carrot and daikon radish with more lactic acidity and no vinegar taste. As a pescatarian, the thought of vegetarian bahn mi is a little frightening but Bahnmigos really put my fears to bed with their portobello bahn mi. The mushrooms are nicely sized, plentiful and seasoned well. The veggies are always fresh and the chipotle mayo is just the icing on the cake to make the perfect 100% guilty tasting, 70% healthy sandwich. However healthy we can get when bread is involved My other love from this place is the shrimp rolls. Always fresh, always delicious. I had pho for lunch and banh mi for dinner... Banhmigos (what a name!) opened just under a year ago, in a tiny space just off 7th Avenue. The shop fits 4 stools inside, and is charming in a way that pretty much only Brooklyn can manage. Vietnamese sandwiches here are not bad - hearty, served warm and fresh. There's a reasonable (vegetarian-friendly!) variety, mostly $6.50. But a few things distinguish these from a truly great banh mi: 1) The baguette is flakier/crunchier and denser than needed. True banh mi bread is softer. 2) The "traditional" sandwich is filled with that ground pork business, which I'm even less a fan of than usual because they make it really salty here. 3) Either as cause or effect of the saltiness, you could barely taste any pate. 4) My biggest complaint: The carrot/daikon mix (do chua) is SO SWEET, DAMN. It's like instead of pickling, they decided to just soak it in sugar water. These veggies were also cut into such thin strips that the soaking made them a tangled, limp clump wedged onto the top of the sandwich, rather than providing crunch and tartness throughout. Like its closest competitor Hanco's (http://www.yelp.com/biz/hancos-brooklyn-2), Banhmigos also does summer rolls, bun (Vietnamese vermicelli salad), and a slew of bubble teas. Bad Bad Bad. What's wrong with all the other reviewers on this website. Got a traditional sandwich for an extortionate $6.50. There was absolutely no pate at all, too much gray tasteless shredded meat, a slice of ham, 1/2 slice of cucumber and mounds of soured, curdled carrots. It was all really off. The vietnamese coffee for $3.50 tasted of melted plastic wax cup. And it wasn't even real drip vietnamese coffee like in lower manhattan where there's more competition. I can see why some people might think this place was friendly, but when they got to me the friendliness was definitely turned "off". A stark difference from the chattiness with the customer in front of me who was also offered a stamp card. The guy knew that I had heard him offer the card and purposefully did not offer me one. Doesn't matter as I would NEVER go back to this horrible place. Seems like not everyone is welcome at this place and they are not afraid of letting people know it. They took my order without so much as a smile and I just knew it would be bad, and it was. I don't want to say Vietnamese sandwich shops are a dime a dozen these days, because that would imply I just don't value them popping up everywhere. And I do value them. I love me a good banh mi and my accessibility to an assortment of them is both comforting and mouth-watering. But they all seem to follow a very similar formula and any variance from one place to the next may be slight (better meat, better bread, etc.), but also may make all the difference in finding your favorite. Banhmigos is certainly campaigning for Park Slopers to pick them as their go-to banh mi joint. They've got the friendly name (but Spanish?) and the friendly service, even if this place itself isn't asking you to stay very long - it's built more for delivery than dine-in, given there are all of four stools in the small space. For whatever reason, I always gravitate to the shredded chicken banh mi option when I'm at places like Banhmigos. I'm by no means anti-pork or pate, but in a sandwich, maybe chicken just speaks to me more. At Banhmigos, they call this meat option a Da Foon. Its innards were fine, the usual suspects of cucumber, cilanto, pickled carrots, and daikon. There was a tinge of sweetness to the mix, probably something in the butter-mayo blend. But it's the bread that threw me, frankly way crustier than I typically like. Most, if not all, quick service Vietnamese places offer some sort of summer/spring rolls, which are greens and vermicelli wrapped in rice paper, some with shrimp, some with just veggies, and served with a peanut hoisin sauce. Banhmigos offers the same, but adds Smoked Duck Breast Rolls to their roster, so I gave 'em a try. I'd guess they're no better or worse than the shrimp offerings I get elsewhere if we're talkin' taste test here, but the one slice of duck per roll does seem a bit skimpy. I'm thinking two slices might be ideal to really bring out the flavor. Still, it's a nice addition and good to know they have 'em here - anything duck-related is always noteworthy in my book. I feel like I housed this meal no problem, where other banh-mi-and-summer-roll-sit-downs have sank like a stone. In the fight against gluttony, I suppose this should be a plus. But in reality, should I really be walking away from a chicken sandwich and duck rolls even the slightest bit still hungry? I didn't feel like an asshole afterwards, just hungry. Still can't decide which is worse, but hey, that's my own internal struggle. We can be banhmigos, Banhmigos, but not like tight banhmigos. Sorry to get all Mean Girls on you, but I've got other places better and closer to me that I'm going to call up first when I need my banh mi fix. Let me preface this with I'm Vietnamese so I get to be critical. Duck summer roll is just a slice of duck wrapped in a small piece of lettuce, too much vermicelli noodle, and rice paper. Point is try a different protein. Grilled chicken banh mi has too little meat to carrot/daikon ratio which is soggy and not fresh anyway. I asked for spicy and got drenched instead. May try the short rib banh mi but probably will stick with the rival chain. Not to mention, I don't feel so hot after my meal :( read more

Pretty dang awesome place. I've had Banh Mi before. In NY, Philly, San Fran. But have never been particularly fond of it. It's alright. But I never fell in love with it. One bite of these sandwiches, and I had completely changed my mind. They were fantastic. Flavorful. Bread wasn't tough. Like a taste of heaven. I tried the B and Jay. Both were great. That iced tea was also good, though not as sweet as other places. That may be a good or bad thing, depending on your taste. But in all seriousness. While Banhmigos doesn't do Mexican (nevertheless a cute name), it does a pretty awesome banh mi. Opting for a traditional banh mi, I was surprised by how fresh and flavorful everything was. The carrots, radish and cilantro seemed like they were picked that morning. The bread, similarly, was very fresh- soft on the inside and tasted as though it had just been baked. Sizes are fairly generous. Staff was very polite and prompt- no wait on a random weekday around lunchtime. The space is small though- only a few seats at the window facing counter. Well, I am shocked to see various positive reviews about this place. It just goes to show how much stock one should place on real authentic opinions of others . To start, this is NOT an authentic Bahn Mi sandwich. They use some type of shredded pork not pork belly and they only use pickled carrots. There was Zero sauce in my sandwich even though I asked them for Extea already knowing they give u a dry bare sandwich (1st not great experience). The roll on which the sandwich is made was hard as a rock and scraped my gums! I actually gave this place TWO chances because I work nearby and still have nostalgia from Real Banh Mi places and miss that. This first time the sandwhich was hard and very dry. These owners literally cut every corner imaginable. No sauce on sandwhich, as little meat and more pickled carrots as possible,and it's NOT pork belly but tiny amount of shredded pork placed right in the middle NOT even placed and spread over on 1 whole side of the split bread. If you ask them for extra mayo already knowing they give you a hard dry sandwhich they will act as if they don't understand.m the words coming out of your mouth. Once u ask 3 times and they give it to you it's a smidge and still not enough to make the sandwich palatable. Be prepared to do lots of chewing and maybe dipping your hard bread in some type of sauce to make it taste better. followed by an entire bottle of water . My first banh mi and it was delicious! I'm not the best reviewer of Vietnamese food, as I can't stand the taste of cilantro (yes, I'm one of THOSE people). But I had heard so many great things about these sandwiches that I wanted to try one for myself. I came across Banhmigos while walking around the Slope with friends. There isn't much seating inside--just 3 or 4 stools and they were all taken--so we got our sandwiches to go and ate on the bench outside of the restaurant. There's no atmosphere and you can see all of the operations of the shop right behind the cash register, but when you're looking for great, cheap eats, you want substance over style. I bought a "Da Jay" grilled pork sandwich with pickled carrots, and asked them if they could make it without cilantro, which they agreed. Although I felt I was missing something without the cilantro that others who love the taste would have liked, I really enjoyed my sandwich, which was overstuffed and full of flavor. I had Da B (roasted ground pork), Da Jay (grilled pork) medium spicy and Mango Boba for a total of $17.75. - The sandwiches were tasty, meat was just right A very precise combination of meat, bread and those other things (carrots, radish, etc). A little bit spicy adds to the sandwich. Bread is slightly toasted. - The mango boba was as expected. Not too sweet, which I prefer. Well-mixed. Small bubbles, I'm more used to larger ones, but all good; these are easier to get thru the straw. - Minor thing is that I asked for mild, since it was quite humid outside, but the dude heard "medium" spicy, so I was like fine. However, all good; made the sandwich even better! - Also, I do wish they would spread out the sandwich inners more evenly instead of having all the carrots/radish at the inner crevice, but oh well, now we can bite exactly what we want (e.g. only meat or only carrots/radish or a combination of both). Added benefit, I couldn't finish my sandwich because I wasn't too hungry, but I saved it in the fridge overnight to eat for lunch the next day. Perfectly done sandwiches, they're steamy hot! Flavor is great! Not the type where you find them just warm because its been sitting there and serve late. Wow! This place is a small hole in the wall but so worth dropping in! The iced Thai Bubble tea that I ordered hit the spot as a thirst quencher and the grilled chicken sandwich that I ordered is really really good, much more flavorful than some other places that I've been to.
