It's been a long time since I was here, but I've yet to find anywhere that rivals their fresh, Caprese salad. I can't speak for recent years, but when I was there, they made their own genuine mozzarella di bufala (buffalo milk mozzarella, for the uninitiated) served warm, and creamy. It melts in your mouth like ice cream. Coupled with fresh basil leaves and sliced Roma tomatoes...I'm about to fish out my passport and max a credit card just to get over there for a snack. That's how I feel about this place. The overall atmosphere was extremely informal, almost akin to a gas station convenience store. It's adjacency to the main tourist attraction, the Greek ruins at Paestum, makes it an easy and available hotspot for foot traffic, or really anyone who doesn't feel like driving anywhere else for a spot of lunch. The lack of reviews of this place on here (there are over a hundred on Trip Advisor) makes me wonder if I'm not blowing the top off a well kept secret. I lived in Italy for a year, and ate at a LOT of restaurants in that time. Very few of them stand out to me the way this little gem has. I couldn't recommend it more highly. If you visit Paestum on your Italian vacation, you must--MUST--at least get a snack here. And make sure it's the mozzarella di bufala. read more
