I've had all of my worst experiences at a bar here. If you are a girl, the owner and employees will make you comfortable and talk at your chest. The bartenders and security are RUDE. The owner tries to argue with negative reviews on google, but the sheer volume of negative reviews is telling. You can be legally drinking for 5+ years but they won't accept you if you have a probationary license even though it is legally valid. Like some people just don't drive. And they literally have ID scanners that they refuse to use. The owner amd employees are racist, sexist, discriminatory, and predatory. The food is bad, the drinks are overpriced and weak aside from Beat the Clock (you probably won't be accepted in those days unless you are a white girl in a mini skirt or a man). The bar itself is dirty and disgusting, no one ever cleans and the floors are always wet. Employees are rude. Atmosphere is dingy and the music is bad. It packed even in the winter with ALL age groups. At times I thought some people still dressed like they were in a time warp. Certainly different than today. I didn't realize that they let so many people in this building. Any applicable fire laws in most towns would limit the wall-to wall bodies here. I don't want to sound like a shit, but you literally cannot move at the main bar. The food is decent here but the drinks are very high priced. If you're looking for craft beer, forget it. Don't ANTICIPATE on getting in... This business robbed from my friends and I. My friend from Ireland was visiting and he was the last one to get ID-ed. The bouncer wound up denying him because I guess a federally issued PASSPORT isn't acceptable. Wow! I was expecting just your typical pub-type food, but was pleasantly surprised. It is a pleasure to go there off season when the bennies have gone home. My friend and I tried it for Jersey Shore Restaurant week, and will definitely return. I had the Roasted Tomato Bruschetta for an appetizer, Braised Short ribs and pumpkin cheesecake- available for lunch $ 17.50 this week only! The chicken pot pie looked hearty, also. We sat in the back room, though there are many seating options, including outdoors. The short ribs were boneless and so tender-with a rich gravy-served over a risotto. The appetizer was good-and dessert delicious. Our waitress was helpful and remarked we should come back for their many specials offered during the week. We were so complimentary that the chef (Bobby) came out to speak to us, and some other patrons nearby. He was pleased at our rave reviews. VILE customer service. Waited in line for 20 mins just to get to the bouncer and show him my ID and him to ask if I had other photo identification which I didn't. I said I could provide him my credit card which has my name on it or pull up my banking app on my phone and they grabbed my arm and pulled me out of line away from my husband while I'm 6 months pregnant just to tell me I couldn't get in because I had a duplicateID. I have gone to this overhyped bar for years, and poured so much money since I turned 21, but never again after last night. I uber a hour there with a group of friends and waited in line for about 20-30 minutes. I get to the front and handed my normal NJ drivers license to them. For the first time ever the guy asked me if I have 2 forms of PHOTO ID on me, which I did not, and would never have on me even if a police officer or TSA wanted it. I had credit cards, and friends testifying for me and the bald old dude was unreasonable and didn't even give it a second look. He said I should have gone to the website and checked their policy which obviously nobody does. I understand them rejecting probationary, duplicate, or other odd IDs... but I had a normal unexpired NJ ID that they didn't even give a second look at. I was beyond annoyed and disappointed in the treatment I received. I eventually enjoyed the rest of my night at Porta which I saw with other patrons accepts credit or debit cards as a called second form of ID like a NORMAL PLACE. It will be a cold day in hell before my friends convince me to return here, and I wouldn't have been so upset if I hadn't gone dozens of times uncontested, but last night ruined it for me. As a side note, i'd like to just highlight how discriminatory a "2 forms of photo ID" policy is. Low income individuals are far less likely to have a second photo ID after their drivers license as they are less likely to have gone to college, have a job that provides an ID badge, or travel internationally requiring a passport . It disproportionately affects minorities and its not hard to see. Unless they are going to use that policy across the board and check every individual there (which they dont) they can specifically target someone who is less likely to have a second form and deny them entry. It is a policy that needs serious review by ownership if they are serious about their equality agenda pro ported on social media. read more

Really disappointed. I can't believe I have to write this review, but we dealt with several racist bouncers and weren't allowed in. We showed 2 forms of ID and it wasn't good enough. Every person who was being turned down was brown, black, or or anything else and later sent to a separate line of only POC people. When we finally got to the door, we were quickly turned away because we were not identified as white males/females. I saw several white girls show their student ids to the woman bouncer WITHOUT any valid license and they were allowed in. My girlfriend and I are several years older than 21 and we have valid licenses and student IDs (that we're old at this point) and were still not allowed to enter. My first time at Bar A will also be my last. We had booked a cabana table and arrived around 5:30 (our table was for 5-9pm). The hostess walked us to the main cabana area where the DJ was but realized that there were no tables available (two tables were vacant, FYI). She continued to walk us to the back of the outdoor area into this auxiliary section with no music or people. I wasn't even allowed to walk by the bar as the man stocking the bar said "this bar is closed, back off". We asked to be moved to one of the vacant cabanas where music was being played and the table we had paid for but the team refused, I asked for a manager. Next emerges Sarah... Sarah was the acting manager that day as the General Manager, Joanne, was out. You would think the management team would respect its customers, however Sarah was nothing but passive aggressive towards us, thinking it is totally okay to seat its table-paying customers next to a vacant bar and bathroom with no music (really?!?). Sarah gave us comments like, "if you were unsure about your reservation, wouldn't a normal person call to ask?" Sarah, wouldn't you think selling a cabana table in a vacant room with no music, next to a bathroom, with a closed bar is wrong? We eventually asked for a refund, which she happily declined. Good luck with your management career, Sarah. Ashley, our waitress, was actually incredible and made our experience with the service of this establishment better. This is generally a great bar. You just have to know when to go. In the summer, the older crowd comes in during the day. They have a daily lunch special that is under $10 which is great particularly in todays economy. The also have a FREE buffet on Friday's for happy hour as well as live music on many Friday and Sunday afternoons. If you are in your 20's, maybe even 30's you'll want to go at night. They have volleyball leagues, DJ's, Bands etc. The food is exactly what you'd expect from a bar that happens to have food. Great food! I went here last night for their BOGO burger on Monday night. It was fantastic! The burger was cooked perfectly and the fries were good. You have a choice of about 8 different burgers and for a $1 up charge you can get onion rings. it's a great deal and good quality. Beer only $3. I've also been here for their $9.95 Steak Dinner on Thursdays. Tito's drinks only $5. It's an 8oz sirloin and comes with two sides. Great deal for the money. Last night, my friend and I got dinner and the service was amazing. We had Julie as our waitress and I could go on forever about how great she was! I have a severe allergy and she was over the top with double checking that what I was eating was safe. I had called in advance to check with the kitchen to ensure they did not make their food with soybean oil (since I am very allergic), and they assured me they did not use that anymore. Upon coming to the restaurant, I double check with Julie, and she came back to let us know they DO use my allergy in their foods. It upset me that if I had not been so on top of asking about my allergy, I could have been given something that had my allergy, I would have had a severe allergic reaction. IF YOU ARE AN AFRICAN AMERICAN DO NOT GO HERE. On June 5 ,2021. My boyfriend and I went here for a friends birthday. We get to the front and present our ID. My boyfriend presented his passport and I presented my military ID to the bouncer. He dismisses my boyfriend and tells him to stand to the side doesn't explain why or what is happening. I presented my ID he stated if your with him HE is not getting in I asked why he stated that he has no proper identification . I stated the female bouncer just accepted a man with just his passport no other physical ID . The male started to stutter and say "oh well he probably had a secondary ID " as I'm questioning this bouncer, ANOTHER bouncer who I'm assuming is the security manger Chris goes over to the cops and LIES stating that my boyfriend is belligerent and tried to get in 4 times which is not true we didn't even consume any alcohol. This was our very first time at this place and PLEASE PULL UP SECURITY CAMERAS WHICH IM SURE THEY HAVE. Or the body camera that the cops should probably have on. My boyfriend tries to go to the female bouncer and before she could even say anything the tall male doesn't allow it. She just accepted another white males ID but this black male ID isn't acceptable? I watched it with my own two eyes. This felt completely discriminatory because I WATCHED A WHITE MALE GET IN WITH HIS PASSPORT and NOT GIVE ANY SECONDARY ID. This entire situation was completely uncalled for . Your bouncers are RUDE and could have least said we cannot accept this form of ID. Not dismiss a person and don't even let them know what is going on and then call the cops over because we started asking QUESTIONS. I've only gone to Bar A for the food and everything was delicious! I got the turkey burger, buffalo chicken wrap and their famous wings (which were delicious). Decided to stop in for a few drinks before heading back to Avon. My wife actually suggested we stop by. She had visited this bar sometime in the early 80's with some college friends. Place was established in 1981 and is very popular with the local clientele. I'm not quite sure because of the Covid thing and some areas were closed off, but it looked like there was 5 or possibly 6 outdoor bar areas aside from whatever they have indoor. We decided to place an order of the loaded nachos to go along with the liquids. I must say the nachos really hit the spot and they were quite tasty. The place wasn't too crowded due to the time we arrived, I noticed that aside from a handful of twenty somethings most of the others were older. This place is a long shot away from being your grandpa's bar and I'm pretty sure the place is jumping when the sun goes down. As mellow as it was in the afternoon, and it's great to be able to have a conversation without having to raise your voice to be heard, I wouldn't mind visiting in the evening, the place gives off a good vibe. read more

This was legit one of the worst customer experiences in my life. If you don't have your original license/birth certificate with age progression pictures, they will not let you in. Once you're are in, there's no guarantee that they will actually let you in. One of the member of our party was asked to recite the ABC's without singing it. Though not a hard task, certainly seemed like they heavily scrutinized someone that very clear was of age and was not intoxicated. To be more straightforward, it seemed as though a group of individuals of color were NOT welcome into this establishment. Worst experience ever! I made a 1pm reservation for me, mom and her friend to enjoy the Restaurant Week lunch menu offering. We were immediately seated in the back dining room upon arrival. Our waitress came to take our drink orders 20 minutes later. It took another 10 minutes for her to take our food order. Apparently there was only ONE server on duty taking care of the 9 or 10 tables in the back dining room. My mom and her friend placed their entire orders for appetizers, entrees and desserts. They both ordered French Onion soup (I had become too irritated to eat and refused to order anything). After waiting another 30 minutes with no appetizers, I found the waitress and told her we were leaving. She apologized and said she was working alone and doing the best she could. She said our entrees were done and ready to come out of the kitchen. When I asked her about the appetizers, she asked "Oh, you haven't had the soup yet?" She offered to have the manager come speak with me. When he came out of the kitchen, he told me that the entrees were ready and he'd have someone bring them out right away. When I asked him about the appetizers that had never been delivered, he said "Your entrees were sent out to the wrong table but now the entrees and appetizers are ready to come out." The idea of food returned from the wrong table and appetizers/entrees arriving to the table at the same time over an hour after our arrival was too much. We left. I will NEVER return to this location. And if zero were an option, that's what my rating would be. I feel immensely sorry for the server, put in a no-win situation. (All we were asking for was two tabs) no one else was there. After she didn't come over to us for a while we went up to the bar to try to order shots and got yelled at.
