Rouen does have a bit of an international crowd, and our server was bilingual in English. For words that were not easily translated, the whole restaurant rallied to make sure we understood what food we would be ordering. The atmosphere is decidedly comfortable and easygoing. I ordered a croque Normandie, a twist on the traditional croque monsieur. Normandy is known for a rich cream sauce which was ladled generously atop my sandwich. It was definitely heavy but a lovely option. My mom really ordered well with a salmon shepherd's pie (called a tarte on the menu) with a beautiful mixed salad on the side. When our orders came in, the chef sang in each option with a smattering of jokes for each patron. You can really feel the cheery ambiance here in the way waitstaff and chefs treat customers and each other. The staff seem to genuinely care about the food, the customers, and each other. The restaurant is very spacious and had an extensive menu. We decided to order the camembert roti (cheese with duck, salad, and potatoes), escargot, and confit de canard (duck leg with potatoes). The portions were quite large and we were able to share all the dishes between 2 people. The escargot was yummy and flavorful and I enjoyed the Camembert cheese with the salad and potatoes. The duck leg was also a tasty bite and we were especially keen on trying it since duck is a specialty of the region. Overall, this was a great spot for lunch, the portions and prices are fair and the staff were all welcoming!
