They are original and delicious with a nice variety of spirit forward and more fun. I appreciated the creativity and innovation in all of the contrails and I had a hard time choosing one. I ultimately got the gochu-gang starr and it was great! The food here is amazing too. The portions are small and this is definitely tapas style so get ready to try a bunch of small dishes. Everything was amazing but my most favorite item I got was surprisingly the chicken heart skewer. The meat was incredibly tender and juicy. It had some saltiness and some citrus which helped to cut through the fatty and meaty flavor. Perfectly balanced! The second time here was two years later, on the Sunday (my birthday!) after we finished skiing before we headed to our late night flight (missus forgot we've been here - the food wasn't memorable, perhaps?). We had a reservation for 2 at 630pm but our plans ended early so we dropped in at 6pm and they were able to seat us. When you enter they check your ID - 21+ only, don't forget your ID! There was not a ton of parking this time around - we ended up parking on the street about 3-4 blocks away, which wasn't a big deal since the sun doesn't set until 730pm, but just be aware there's not a lot of parking generally. I'm 99% sure we got seated in either the exact same spot as last time, or very close to it. It was not the bar, but the seating directly behind it. Missus ordered the ghia non-alcoholic drink ($9) and I ordered the hot honjozo sake ($11). It's a ton of sake for a low price - nice! For food: We ordered the fried tofu ($12), and then six skewers (times two for the two of us) - beef steak, pork wrapped enoki, chicken meatball, chicken thigh, chicken heart, and mushroom. They ran out of chicken skin (for the evening) when we ordered. We also ordered another chicken heart and a beef steak skewer (one each). My favourite was between the pork-wrapped enoki or the beef steak. Both were good for their own reasons. Since it was my birthday, Damien (the server) graciously accommodated me dropping off the cake slices we ordered from tous Les jours. That was nice. Like last time, the ambiance was a funk track - I can't hear the lyrics but the bass beat is coming through - the speaker above me is unbranded but could be either a European or Japanese brand speaker (bass is hard to differentiate unless I know the settings). Bar Nohm has seriously leveled up since my visit a year and a half ago. The revamp is real. From the vibe to the menus (which are SO cute, btw), everything feels more thoughtful and elevated. Food-wise, everything I tried was solid. The Chicken Karaage is perfectly crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The Beef Ssam was served/plated nicely and really tasty, though I do wish the portion was a bit bigger. I highly recommend the Sesame Noodles -- so flavorful and satisfying. The Fried Rice was a little on the oily side, but still really tasty. The cocktails are fun, strong (in a good way), and look amazing. Also, the service was great. Branzino and Sesame noodle are spectacular. At the slightest touch of the grilled branzino's skin, the gentle scent of charcoal-grilled fish begins to waft through the air. The fragrance of charcoal grilling feels like a gift from nature, complemented by a sauce that reflects human finesse. Lightly seasoned, it preserves both the smokiness of the fire and the gentle sweetness of the fish.Beneath the fish lies a layer of mala pickles. Delicious in their own right, but best enjoyed in a separate bite from the fish, as their intensity risks overshadowing the fish's subtle fragrance. I'm not the biggest fan of noodles, but the are irresistible. Each strand is coated in a creamy sesame sauce, so smooth that I start to wonder whether it's the noodles or the sauce that barely needs chewing. The key to good noodles is always the sauce, and these sesame noodles get it exactly right. It helps immensely that they're generously paired with beef and mushrooms--as if the noodles themselves weren't compelling enough already. read more

This was recommended to me by a local and it definitely is easy to miss. Sort of on the edge of the city, in an area with not much around it. This Bar features a small but incredibly flavorful menu. I started with the sesame noodles and the flavor is just perfect. The noodles have a hint of sweet to it but complimented by the meat and the Sichuan peppers and it all comes together in such a great way. The baby octopus was the standout though. However if you are a picky eater or sensitive to texture I would not recommend. But the flavor of the sauce and the paddies is just out of this world. It just overwhelms you in the best way. The bar tenders were super friendly and right there to help out. It's fairly small but a cool atmosphere that would also make it a great spot for a night cap or meet up with friends. read more

We really enjoyed our experience at Bar Nohm! The only reason for 4 stars is because each time we've been seated, the host tells us when the next party is supposed to arrive, which feels a bit like we're being rushed out as soon as we arrive. Very cool izakaya type spot. Also very accommodating with our reservation. Our screening went longer than we expected, and we called to notify them that we were running late. They said it was no problem and had a table waiting for us. Very interesting cocktail list, along with wines, sake, Sochi and amaros. The food is family style, and I loved having the glasses, chopsticks, small plates and napkins at the table. Our server was very helpful, and we ordered a dozen delicious, cold and briny oysters. Then we had the chicken kaarage which is one of my favorites, and they did a wonderful job, serving with grilled lemon and a great spicy sauce. We actually liked it so much we ordered another one! We also got the spicy cucumber salad, made very interesting with wood ear mushrooms and squid. We got the pork wrapped enoki mushroom skewers, and they were exceptional. Bar Nohm is a trendy Korean/Japanese izakaya that is perfect for quick bites and drinks during a GNO or post-work hangout but don't expect to get full off their tapas and skewers, which are all tasty but not really appropriate for a complete meal. I came here mainly to try the bossam, intrigued by the fact that it was being offered as a small plate. I love this dish and unfortunately am often deterred from ordering it at Korean restaurants because of the massive portion size but here it's offered as a small plate perfect for one. Unfortunately, they no longer had the pork bossam on the menu but the beef ssam didn't disappoint. The beef belly was fatty and flavorful and paired well with a bold daikon salad tossed in ssamjang, though I felt the leafy greens were a little lacking in quantity. We also had the asian pear salad and spicy baby octopus, which were both very flavorful - though be warned that the latter is a tad on the spicier side if you're not accustomed to a baseline Asian level of heat. Skewers were also yummy-- if you have to pick just one, I would recommend the skirt steak as my favorite for its texture and flavor. We actually didn't order any drinks here since we already had plans to post-game at Bodega & the Rest nearby (review to come) but they have a multitude of intriguing and artfully presented craft cocktails that seem worth trying. On the off chance that none of their creative concoctions peak your fancy, head to Water Witch (their sister cocktail bar) just next door. Between 2 of us, we spent over $80 (without drinks) and left feeling like we each could have another entree so overall a really great place to check out with friends for a casual hang out with fun drink options but definitely beware of coming on a completely empty stomach unless you're willing to spend a good amount! read more

We went to Bar Nohm tonight for dinner after friends have raved about a good meal. Reservations are highly encouraged as space is limited. The restaurant has a sleek Korean high-end feel. The seating was at a communal table with wooden bar stools. It was not comfortable seating and an elbow away from a total stranger. I didn't care to share my evening out with a stranger's complaining about their week. We ordered the chicken karaage with garlic pepper, fried sized bites, lemon wedge and a spicy dipping sauce. The chicken was done well and the sauce gave a spicy bite. The Asian pear salad had anchovie crisp, pepito, goat cheese, sesame dressing and shredded greens. The flavor was unique, in a good way and very refreshing. This was our favorite dish of the evening. The sesame noodles with braised beef, szechuan peppers, choy and mushrooms was also selected. The noodles, beef and mushrooms were good but the szechuan after taste was not appealing to us. Three skewers were also ordered: beef steak, chicken thighs and pork wrapped enoki, each with several bites. The skewers were our least favorite with chewy chicken, flavorless beef and an odd texture for the pork wrapped enoki. I expected a nice grilled flavor, perhaps a soy glaze or a different flavorful profile, but that was not the case. I was excited about the buzz and reservations surrounding Bar Nohm, but was let down by the food quality. I hope this was a one off. The menu is limited and there is not much else I wanted to try. I wish Bar Nohm the best moving forward. The space, decor and concept are spot on. They need to refine the skewer's taste. A very well deserved 5 stars and updated review. Bar Nohm has only gotten better and better, and has become a top-3-in-Utah spot for my boyfriend and I. We come here at least twice a month if not more often because we always crave their food and amazing cocktails. I tell all my friends that Bar Nohm has the best cocktail program in Utah, and is always raising the bar (literally). The prices are reasonable, the food portions are great, and their creativity keeps us on our toes. When we have friends visiting from out of town we always like to bring them here and they always get impressed. The ambiance is so dang cool. Think part tiki bar and part izakaya with some really cool vibes. The artwork and decor is so unique and we just love spending time here. The service is top notch as well-- big shout out to Clif who is incredible. My boyfriend and I are so happy whenever we get to be served by Clif as he is so great to chat with, is so knowledgeable and involved with everything at the restaurant, and makes us feel like we are family at Bar Nohm. Hot spot in the Central 9th neighborhood!!! Bar Nohm was high on the list for my quick trip to SLC. I was pleasantly surprised that we snagged a spot for 2 at the bar on a Friday night one hour before closing. This bar is so hip. It's a small, dark, and intimate space. There's individual seating at the bar, a few communal tables, and some four seater tables, perfect for a date night or bites with a small group. Their selection of indie/alternative music also fit the bill. The atmosphere here is very cool and chill then head right next door to Water Witch for loud and ratchet music, truly the best of both worlds! Because they technically share a space and liquor license, the entire space is 21+. Love that! On to the food, first thing, these portion sizes were very generous for izakaya style dining. We got there very late, so a few things I wanted to try were sold out, but we still had a good spread. The beef belly wraps were the most perfect bite. Crisp veggies, tender beef, a little spice from the ssamjang paste. The waiter recommended the mushroom szechuan noodles and it did not disappoint! But be warned, he described them as not very spicy, just a lil spice hit towards the back of your throat. I am a spicy girlie and will confidently say, if spice isn't your thing, pass on this. My friend doesn't do spicy and couldn't eat this dish comfortably. The kimchi fried rice was done beautifully. We also tried the chicken skin, wagyu, and mushroom skewers. I 100% recommend trying a few of those, very tasty! I originally wanted to try this spot because of their extensive non alcoholic drink menu. Kind of disappointing that the Phony Negroni was bottled and not hand crafted but very minor detail. I tried the Perilla Sky, so light and refreshing! If I haven't convinced you with the beautiful space and mouthwatering food, the service was outstanding. Like I said, we got there about an hour before closing, we got seated in less than 10 minutes. All the raw fish we ordered was super fresh. The duck wrap was our favorite food item followed closely by the tasty skewers. We really enjoyed watching them grill our skewer order. The snapper was so fresh and it melted in my mouth, I had to order another one. The soft shell crab was soft and yummy. The oysters were also very fresh. My least favorite was the kimchi fried rice. They're back! I've been anxiously awaiting the return of Nohm. In their first few weeks of re-opening, the menu has a nice balance of veggie, chicken, fish, and beef items. Our meal was hit and miss on Friday night. The bluefin, chicken skewers and cauliflower were perfection, but the oysters, sea bass, and potato pancake missed the mark. For me, with oysters, less is more, and the garnish detracted from the sweet, briny finish. The sea bass seemed undercooked and floating in a gelatinous substance that wasn't appetizing. The potato pancake was overly salty and mushy on arrival. But our server Clifton was perhaps the best we've encountered anywhere. It's difficult to articulate what makes a standout server, but it could be summarized in one word: passion. This man is passionate about food, service, and the quality of both. He was exceptional. Drinks were also exceptional as one would expect from Crystal Daniels behind the bar. To our surprise, they had mezcal and made a perfect mezcalita that paired well with the chicken skewers. The space has been refreshed to add patio seating and allow guests to move freely between the restaurant and Water Witch next door. There's also communal and private dining space and a chefs counter where we would have preferred to sit and watch the kitchen. Next time, perhaps when we have a reservation. Despite my initial experience with the re-opening menu, I'm keeping the overall experience as 5 star for location, ambience, service and potential. I loved the decor and bar bites. Everything is plated very beautifully, but not in a pretentious way. They initially opened as a full sit down restaurant, but shut down for a bit and reopened to shift focus to its bar food. If you tried this before the rebrand, give it another try! Do note that they don't offer any type of dessert menu. I'll admit, I was pretty skeptical when I heard kushiyaki in Salt Lake. But when I saw them grilling the skewers over charcoal with sparks flying everywhere, I knew it was going to be good. And sure enough, it was so tasty with apparent charcoal flavors. My one piece of criticism is $4 for chicken thigh is quite pricy compared to the $2 - $3 ones you can get in LA. read more
