Great classical music in the background. Excellent choice for winding down after a long hot day. Dinners start real late in Spain. I do enjoy starting the dinner "early" at 8 or 8:30 and it feels like you have the restaurant to yourself. This is Basque food and it is authentic and good. They focus on grilling and not putting on a lot of spices, keeping it simple and highlighting the food. There is also plenty of art from a Basque artist and it helps tell a story about the place and food. Our server did a wonderful job explaining the art and story about the artist and pieces Started with sourdough and olive oil and asparagus. The sourdough was excellent and soft, some of the better bread we have had in Spain. The asparagus was excellent, it is from its own garden and grilled nicely. They have an oil mix with red, green peppers and onions. Yummy. Minor critique is maybe a little more al dente on the cook. As I say this I am sure this is their preference. The main course arrived and Ananda did the work to prepare the fish, the piquillo pepper arrived with the main as well. It was a must. The sea bream was cooked nicely in olive oil and fried garlic. It was tasty but the piquillo peppers were the star of the night. So much flavor. Cheat code, add the peppers to the fish, wow what a dish. Once we found out about the desserts we had to complete the deal. The chocolate is a take on a decadent brownie and I got the the pantxineta. The pantxineta is a custard in the middle with a hint of lemon sauce. The desserts were super delicious. The pantxineta was a perfect pastry with custard and lemon sauce at the bottom with the perfect mix of sweet and sour. The chocolate was like a deconstructed lava cake with caramel encrusted bread toasties for dipping or eating on your own. Very chocolate forward that was also delicious. This is a solid 4.5, I believe the overall rating is low so going with a 5 for the experience, service, locally owned food and near story.

This is the only place in Madrid that made me a fun mocktail that was not a virgin mojito or virgin pina colada. Their desserts could use a little more creativity. I had a chocolate shell with some fruits inside. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. For such a large group, I felt like the space was intimate enough that I got a chance to connect with every individual, which is the most important.

While they were happy to accommodate us in their dining room, there was obviously a private corporate event that unfortunately cut us off from the rooftop dining option. The appetizer was a Light Garlic Soup Cream, apparently a modern take on a traditional Castilian soup (Photo 8). It was fine, but we would've preferred something more substantial like croquettes. The bread service helped though (Photo 14). For the starter, Jamie went with the Sprout Salad with Cucumber, Feta Cheese, and Watermelon (Photo 7). It was a good size serving of freshness and a nice variety of textures. I ordered the Creamy Rice with Cheese and Roasted Beetroot (Photo 6). It was a plain and simple risotto with little flavor pops and a dusting of nutmeg. It was a bit too close in consistency and temperature to the soup to satisfy. The main course was another mixed bag. Jamie ordered the Cod with Bilbao-Style Sauce and Fried Bimi (Photo 4). We weren't sure why there was a 3€ surcharge on this choice, but the cod and broccolini made for a nice contrast. I went heartier with the Quick Pork Sirloin Stew with Vegetables (Photo 5). I'm not sure what made it quick, but it was the type of comfort food I usually favor. Dessert wasn't included, but that didn't stop us. Jamie ordered the 3,5€ Chocolate Coulant with Cinnamon Cream (Photo 10). Easy slam dunk but smallish. I had the 3,5€ Almond Cake with Citrus Cream (Photo 9) it was saved by the little sphere of vanilla ice cream. We thought we asked for tap water but got a 6€ bottle of designer water instead (Photo 11). Ah, the things you learn when you travel.
