I'm not even finished with it and I'm trying to plan a trip back to Lleida just to have it again! The tapas I ordered, Braves Xicoira, which were like home fries but in a spicy tomato sauce, were fantastic in and of themselves, but the lasagna--The Lasagna--Veggie Lassanya de carbassa in a Mushroom béchamel--topped any lasagna I've ever eaten in the US. The ambience of this place was nice as well. Not necessarily the music I want to hear when in Catalonia/Spain, but the look and the "feel" was very nice. Okay for a group as long as it is a small group. It's a typical European-style restaurant/bar--very nicely adorned with greenery, stone trim, and quaint decorations, it is really aesthetically pleasing to be here--the American pop music is something too familiar to me for it to be that perfect experience. But that said, this isn't a place to draw tourists...in name or locale. So maybe the local regulars find the music fitting. It was honestly by happenstance and a little help from Happy Cow that I stumbled down the Lleida cobblestone streets to find this place. By the way if you are planning to come, don't expect a late afternoon-early evening meal. If you miss the merienda ("lunch-ish") time, then you'll have to wait until they open again at 8:30pm. But do plan to come here. I'm thinking I should come back tomorrow and try the veggie burger for lunch. It isn't too far from the hotel where I'm staying and down at the foot of the hill of La Seu Vella and the Castillo del rey. And with that the meal was one fit for a Rey. I guess it could be that travel heightens the tastebuds as well as the sensation of caffeine. But this the flavor of the damn things! They are awesome in Spain--when I get back home I'm going to order a Cafe Español and see what happens (read blank stares). But enough about the coffee. I ordered the Avocado Toast and a Veggie Portobello with Soy Mayo. Both were good. The toast the avocado was layered on made Texas Toast look like Rhode Island toast...well maybe Ohio Toast (Texas toast can still be pretty thick). But this slice of pan tostado was a brick. Although it was well toasted and packed a crunch, I'm not referring to the hardness--it's the size I'm referencing. And I'm convinced they put an entire avocado on this thing. Sprinkled with chia and flax it was a plant-based marvel. But the taste award goes to the Veggie Portobello with Soy Mayo. This little beauty was so gorgeous and tasty I called mine Jessica (read my wife). The soy mayo was was treat and with the sun-dried tomatoes and slices of fresh tomatoes cuddling right up with those wonder-inspiring mushrooms, it had to be one of the best things I've had on my trip. For those interested, I came for breakfast on a Monday morning. So it was very quiet, music playing overhead, the swishing swirl of an espresso machine, and the occasional clank of a fork on a plate, and that was it. Old gentlemen came in and sat at the bar. At one point a gentlemen and lady had a slightly ardent discussion of Catalonian politics but then it was ended and the ambient sounds returned. There is a bar and a substantial wine selection. Also there is outdoor seating on the plaza in front which, appears to be for later in the day when it will warm up a bit. If your travel itinerary ever brings you to Lledia, you should let your taste for good vegetarian and vegan options bring you here.

Extremely cute and classy place, beautiful building. Everything is plated very elegantly. Our server spoke English. There were many rooms with tables so the guests are not all packed into one room. The day we came, they offered the regular menu or specials of the day that was not included in the menu. We opted for the specials. For 28 euros per person, you received a three course meal. This place was so inexpensive for what they offered, I couldn't believe it. We tried the watermelon salad, Ajoblanco, beef cheeks (which was so tender and melted in your mouth), snail rice dish (unsure of name), spaghetti and macaroni with bolognese sauce, fries, croquettes and pistachio cheesecake and pineapple with pineapple ice cream. Their complimentary house bread with local olive oil was very good. We also had white wine from a local vineyard. Overall such an amazing experience and glad they were able to serve us.
