(BTW - does anyone else immediately get an itchy nose in those things?) Why the storefront window? Its not like anyone is gonna see me and think "Oh I need a haircut and look - there's a barber!" Especially not with my head. Sam's place is inaccessible to anyone not buying a pair of jeans at the back corner of DJs level 1 Mens department. I can get a decent cut from Sam and nobody will even know. It can take two days before someone at home twigs. Bit expensive but I don't want to train another barber, so $45 a pop it is. The privacy is worth it.

It displays choices for traditional and fade cuts, offers the available time slots, and charges $20AU for the appointment. I told my barber what I wanted and got to it. The conversation was casual and not forced. It was a good fade, he only used an electric razor and attachments. He trimmed the top of my head and bangs. I was in and out and ready for my evening event. I paid for the rest of the haircut and was off to my event. This particular location is in the lower level of the 464 Kent shopping center. The easiest approach is entering from the St. Andrews church in via Cross City Tunnel/Bathurst. Recommended.

Twice when I made a booking, arrived on time to be told that they had taken a walk-in and to make another booking and the second time to come back in half-an-hour when I booked during my 45 minute lunch break. Joe (the owner) is a pleasant Italian guy who has obviously been cutting hair for many years. I watched him cut carefully and chat away with his clients. National Geographic on the table. TV on but not intrusive. Pomades and waxes all pleasantly displayed but not pushed. It felt old school. The guy who owns this place was wearing a waistcoat on the day we visited and I like to imagine he does that every day. He was very welcoming to a female in male territory (some other places we've visited have been a little unsure about Mummy tagging along too). He understood what style would work best for my son and made good a truly awful previous cut. A lollipop from inside a tin under the cash register at the end sealed the deal for my lad. At $25 it isn't cheap but I've learnt my lesson. Some things, including hairdressing, are not areas in which to make savings. No appointment necessary.

I don't plan on returning to this establishment, but by all means feel free to try it yourself and see if you're able to have a better experience than i did
