It is a bit of a dingy old place if I'm being honest, but they have some killer sales sometimes, which go down well with Newcastle as the shop is usually pretty busy when they have reductions. The ground floor has a small beauty department at the front with clothing and shoes towards the back. There is a small stretch of basement as well which has the bed department. I never find myself buying ANYTHING in here but it is always good to browse around if you are on Grainger Street. Upstairs, they have the homeware department which is extensive. I think it covers the entire first floor! The actual products are a bit dated but they are going cheap at really affordable prices. I think I saw a JML stand too, which I've only ever seen before in Woolworths and BHS! Very rare! If you go upstairs again, then you will be smack dab in the centre of the electrical department. I must admit, it is slightly chilly up there as they usually have all of the fans turned on full blast which is a bit unsettling. Up on this floor is the restaurant which looks fairly decent for what it is. It also boasts big windows with views over Grainger Town. But I have never eaten here so I do not know what the food is actually like. As the final remnant of the 20th century High Street, it does a great job and is worth a visit every once in a while. If you are a younger shopper the clothing is a bit lacklustre and is just rails and rails of granny and grandad clothes.

If you like named brands with affordable price tags then come to TJ Hughes, but if you love the big glitzy displays and designer price tags of Fenwicks and John Lewis then this place is most definitely not for you. The store is not in the main shopping areas of Northumberland St. or Eldon Square, but it is fairly central (5 minutes walk from Monument Metro Station). It is a mid sized store, quite narrow so can be difficult to negotiate on a busy Saturday and especially challenging with a pushchair. The range of clothing is good, but aimed primarily at a youthful market and those with more money to spend than the average. Value for money is average as prices are quite high but quality is in general quite good and the clothes are very attractive. It has a mix of high fashion items and more classic pieces but they have a really lovely range of cocktail type dresses.

The only criticism that I have is the fact that the prices are too high and do not reflect the quality of clothing that you receive. This store is located on Northumberland Street in a fairly decent location in the city centre of Newcastle Upon Tyne. The store is over four floors, with Women's on the Ground Floor, Mens in the "Basement" and a Costa Coffee store with the Kids range and Customer Services on the upper/second floor. The staff around the store seemed average, perhaps less helpful than other branches, however. A decent store in a decent location - hence the reason I'm struggling to rate this place, yet sadly due to some slight issues with product range, slight issues with service not being as good as other Primark branches and issues with the overall feel of the store in parts, the lifts also were an issue for me, I feel this store only deserves a medium to high two-star rating at best.

It opened in 2012 to replace the old BHS and it has proven popular with Newcastle because it's always jam packed. The basement has the menswear department which is pretty large. I can always find something I like on this floor. The ground and first floors are both taken up by the womenswear but the second floor has the amazing Primark home section, accessories and a Costa, which you can head to if you want to escape the crowds of the main store. Even though it does get VERY packed, the store is very spacious, so it doesn't really feel busy. The escalator arrangement is complete and utter pants. You have to go to the other side of the store to get to the next one in the set, what rubbish! Also the elevators (even though there is lots of them) feel like they are always flooded with people. It has a good layout, it is pretty generous in size, mens department is big and it has a coffee shop, so what is not to like about Primark Newcastle?

I would say that their range is aimed primarily at those in their 20s to 30s but the prices are quite high end. This branch is over two floors and has a full range from jeans to smart clothing. The clothes are of good quality and comprise some classic pieces such as smart trousers to more high fashion items. As for location, this store could not be in a better place. Located in the centre of town, right next to Eldon Square shopping centre, close to all public transport from buses to Metros, it could not be easier to get to. Because it is on two floors, it could be difficult for the less able to get access.

The…read moreprices are higher than in other fashion shops in the shopping centre but they do have some very nice children's clothes. They tend to be of the traditional boy=blue, girl=pink designs but they usually have unisex clothing in yellow/beige/white as well. There's a good selection of accessories as well as a range of women's clothing. You don't tend to see many trendy young people in the store but a lot of the clothes are good classic pieces that are very suitable for work. Staff are pleasant and chatty.

Dotty P's is one of my favourite stores to shop in for a few reasons: they always seem to have a…read moresale on; even when they don't have a sale on you can get a great fitting t-shirt for about £4; they support the Woodland Trust by having a range of clothing and accessories available to buy; they have the fabulous Gok Wan on board to shout hello Gorgeous girls! over the loud speaker as you are shopping, just to make you feel better about yourself! This store is just inside of the Northumberland Street entrance of Eldon Sqaure shopping centre and so is easy to get to and practically always the first clothing store I head to when I come to toon to shop! This place has two floors with a bit of a steep staircase but most of the good stuff is downstairs anyway. The staff are really good here too, and recently went out of their way to help me order stuff in and use a gift voucher card I had. This is a good place to come to early in the day as it can get very busy later on.

It is now…read morebehind King Street on the new shopping development opposite Coronation Street. the new premises is a lot bigger than the old one, and as such they have a lot more choice. river Island is one of those shops that I love to browse and they do have some lovely unique pieces of clothing and jewellry, however, I find it a little pricey for my limited budget. I tend to wait until sale times (after xmas/late summer) to pick up bargains from the previous seasons. Overall they sell trendy good quality clothing for men and women. The new store is also a lot more modern and spacious than the old one.

River Island is now located behind King St in the new shopping complex that has been built next to…read moreCoronation St. The size of the store is quite large and has a large range of both women's and means clothes. I tend to find the prices of there stuff quite expensive but they do sell some nice stuff and is always busy with people buying their latest designs. They do however normally have some good sales on where there clothes are genuinely reduced and that is normally the time I buy my stuff from there. The staff are very helpful and are easy to find and are always happy to help.
