If I was dining with a picky eater I would bring them here. Let me explain myself-- everything is cooked and seasoned well, and the massive menu ensures that everyone will find something they can eat. Even if you don't end up liking the dish, the tapas size is small so you're not losing too much. And most importantly, most of the dishes I tried had garlic, salt, pepper, and olive oil as the predominant flavor profile. The perfect seasoning profile for a non-adventurous eater! For the more adventurous eaters, I'd highly recommend sampling from their charcuterie and cheese selection. I enjoyed trying different combinations of cheese and meat with the bread to see which flavor profile was my favorite (also a good activity for Remy's friend from Ratatouille). We got a red wine sangria pitcher- soooo good and our group of 5 were each able to have one glass. Tonight we tried Delice de Bourgogne and Alisios cheeses with Chorizo Blanco meat. All very delicious! ~~ Tapas ~~ Patatas Bravas (7/10): Ok, patatas bravas were a bright spot. I'm biased against the dish because it's just potatoes, but they're nice and crispy at least. Sauce was nice. Crispy Okra (8/10): Delicious dish. Okra was tender and nicely fried. The salmon was overcooked and not tender enough on the inside. On the outside, EXTREMELY average. Tasted like subpar wedding food. The UCLA dining halls could mass produce salmon much better than this. Honestly, this dish is a significant reason I rate this restaurant a 3*. Do not order. Gambas al ajillo (5/10): Average. Shrimp tasted fine, but not very memorable. Spiced beef empanadas (5/10): Tasted fine, but also not memorable. I liked the nice spicy kick, but otherwise very underwhelming. Squid Ink Fideos (4/10): Too salty. Very boring dish with no flavor complexity. Lemon Hummus (5/10): Tasted fine. Not very memorable - probably comparable to what you can get in the supermarket Potato Tortilla (7/10): This one was actually more decent than the other dishes. Pretty good, and I would recommend. They say the tapas come out in 5-10 minutes and I believe it. The tapas came out promptly. They also said that the large plates take up to 45 minutes and our seafood paella probably took that long. Ok tapas place in Cambridge. Came here to celebrate things with coworkers. We ordered bunch of small plates (croquetas, gambas, bone marrow, pulpo, and etc.) and large seafood paella. The croquetas were so gooood - we ordered it three times haha :P Bone marrows were okay, but bit salty on my taste. Pulpo was okay as well. Gambas were not sepcial either, I could smell some shrimp in there. I would not order the paella again tho, it was bit blend and not fully cooked in my opinion. They should do better! We brought a group of our clients to Barcelona Wine Bar for a business meeting and it absolutely exceeded every expectation. The food was phenomenal -- truly next level. The Beef Short Rib with truffle chimichurri and fennel purée was one of the best short ribs any of us have ever had -- insanely tender, rich, and packed with flavor. The Duck Caldoso with butternut squash and sage was just as impressive -- deep, comforting, and perfectly balanced. Honestly, we've never had duck this good. For dessert, we shared the Basque Burnt Cheesecake with Luxardo cherries, and wow... it was the perfect finish -- creamy, lightly caramelized, and not overly sweet. One bite and the whole table went silent (the best compliment). Huge credit to Executive Chef Corey O'Shea -- his talent truly shows in every dish. Our entire group was raving about the food all night. The service was excellent as well -- our waitress was attentive, professional, and friendly. Business as usual. That's fine. Food was good. However at the end when all the plates were gathered, my friends were expecting some sort of dessert to be brought out for me but nothing came. One of my friends asked if he could bring out a little birthday dessert or something with a candle on it and all our server said was "I mean, I could bring you the dessert menu." Um. Thanks. We had a 7:15pm reservation for 2 on Friday, we were seated 45 minutes later! This seems to be a common problem as other reviewers have said the same thing. When walking out of the restaurant, I heard a group of people saying that this is not the first time they've had to wait a long time past their reservation to finally sit. There is no waiting area, so everyone crowds around the bar. I would've been annoyed if I were sitting at the bar or the tables as everyone waiting was shoulder to shoulder in this small area. At one point the bartender got on-top of the bar and started pouring sangria shots out of a pitcher into waiting guests mouths. Aside from waiting much too long for our table to be ready, they had a large and diverse menu, I'll certainly be going back to try more. For a party of two the server suggested ~3 small plates per person OR one large plate to share to go along with one small plate per person. I had great memories of dining at the Brookline Barcelona many years ago and was excited to try the Cambridge chapter. Food is great- we enjoyed the Paella Mariscos, Grilled Pulpo, Roasted Whole Branzino, and Eggplant Caponata the best- all perfectly cooked, very flavorful. The Gambas Al Ajillo was a bit too salty and was cooked 10 seconds too long, the Steak Paillard was okay but not terribly exciting. The red sangria and Bio-Curious selection of wines were very good. Desserts were good too- the flan was a bit too sweet, but we enjoyed the chocolate cake. Service was courteous but perhaps not the most attentive, and we had to follow-up a couple times on dishes that hadn't come out, or for them to clear our table and take our dessert order. Overall, great experience. Maybe try coming not on a busy Friday night for better service, because the food is worth it. read more

Recently visited Barcelona Wine Bar in Cambridge after being a regular customer at their Atlanta location. Much like the Atlanta location, good vibes and ambiance, and were seated and served rather quickly considering it was a busy Friday night. Also huge shout out for Barcelona being one of the few places that *still* gives FREE bread (that actually tastes super good and is warm). Ordered a couple of cocktails, pitcher of red Sangria, and a variety of tapas plus order of paella. Sangria is decent, not super strong but can get 4-5 glasses out of the pitcher which is a fair deal. Out of all of the food, the tapas were the standout to me. The seafood paella (Paella Verduras) was generously portioned however the calamari and shrimp were kind of overcooked and it was rather salty, probably would not ordered again. The charcuterie was delicious and really enjoyed whatever jam was served with it and wish we had a little bit more of it! As for the tapas I tried: whipped ricotta, pork belly (served with zucchini relish), and grilled puplo. All were flavorful and tasty, and the octopus was cooked perfectly. All in all I think Barcelona is a decent spot for the date night if you are wanting something classier/ambiance but not wanting to schlep to Boston. However based off the paella I believe that many of the larger plates could likely be overpriced for not super great quality. Despite this, I think they really do shine with the tapas and charcuterie, and doing a few rounds of drinks while trying out various dishes and sharing with someone makes for a fun evening. 3.75ish stars read more
