4/5/2025 PM Never in my life have I ever been treated this rude by any restaurant. I am a Chef and Bartender in Kentucky and forgot how racist people were in the south. As someone who has worked in the industry 15 plus years I know what it means when a restaurant makes you start a tab and you're sitting a table. Not only did both our servers make us pay for food after we were treated rudely by both our servers and wanted to leave but our food wasn't cooked to the right temperature. I've never been told that I had to pay for food that i hadn't received yet but I bet they thought that we were super intoxicated and wouldn't know but NO. Food is normal bar food but with a twist, as it's the best bar food in all of the city. The chicken strips and fries are incredible after or before a late night. Service can be hit or miss, depends on what all is going on down town and how slammed they are. Downstairs has a little more room than the tighter upstairs quarters.. drinks are pretty good & the ambiance fluctuates between loud and cramped to sports bar feel. All in all, a good time. Good sliders just a quick walk from the downtown hotels. Many of the local spots are closed on Sunday, so this little hole in the wall really hit the spot. Hubby spent the majority of our visit trying to convince me that I'd been there before. I hadn't of course but it didn't make the experience any less enjoyable at all! After starting the day with coffee at another location, we finally wandered over to Bardog for lunch. We sat downstairs, as there was more spacing available. Hubby had a Cobb salad and I ordered bacon, eggs, and potatoes a la carte. It came out very quickly and was good. I forgot to order my bacon extra crispy, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have...that was my fault. As we left the restaurant, the patrons upstairs were smoking. I'm asthmatic, so it was hard leaving and trying to breathe through that with my mask on. I was unaware that smoking was allowed, but otherwise, I really enjoyed the meal. COVID Measures: The staff wore masks and gloves the entire time we were there. Hand sanitizer was available at each table. The spacing wasn't fully 6' between each table, but I still felt fairly safe. Upon entry, each patron had to put their contact information into a ledger for contact tracing measures. If I could leave a zero star rating I would! I came home for the holidays and decided to stop in for drinks after and received the most disgusting treatment from the bartender Lia or Leah and the manager Kyle. I originally asked for two strawberry Long Islands after Lia gave me a nasty neck rolled "a whats?! I cant make that" I opted out for just the original. After the she made my drinks I say a bug floating in the cup. I politely said "hey there's a bug in my drink" she picked the cup up and said "there's no bug in the fkn drink" I laughed and asked her who was she talking to because there is no way you're cursing at me and there is a bug in the fkn drink. At this point I'm upset because you're calling me a liar and you're cursing. Now we're both cursing because who did you think I was?! She replied "I'm gonna strain the drink to show you there is no bug in the drink" I said ma'am do what you want but there's a bug in that cup and I want a new drink. She took the drink to the manager who then came with the same nasty energy. He has his flash light in the cup and said "ma'am I don't know what you saw but there's no bug in the drink" extremely rude. He was standing about a foot away from the cup shining his flash light so I said "if you step up and look in the glass you can see the bug floating in the fkn cup" he said "I'm not gonna do anything it's no bug in the fu...oh I'm sorry you're right there is a bug in the cup" he immediately became apologetic after him and his staff cursed at me and gave me the absolute worse customer service . I told them both they owe me an apology. Kyle apologized and covered my remade drink where as Miss Lia said "take that up with the manager not me" when had she listened and actually looked in the cup she would've saved us all a 10 minutes loud argument in front of the whole establishment!!! A nice chill spot if you are looking for good food ,beer and cool people. The bar has two levels which presents more seating downstairs. BarDog is a true neighborhood bar and restaurant in the heart of downtown Memphis with great food, late night kitchen, cold drinks and awesome bartenders!! If you are considering visiting bardog tavern in Memphis let me save you from a bad experience. First of all it's a tavern, they have a so called security guard on the outside who suffers from OCD due to that fact that he was to check the same ID 5 times before letting you in. As we arrived to the establishment there was a long line, little did we know the entire line was going to be sent away for the most absurd reasons. As the people in front of us were being checked one of the girls had a lace bralet undershirt and was told she couldn't get in because of the material of the under garment. She button up her shirt and still he proceeded by digging deep into her purse. He then proceeded to check the man after her and kept feel his groin area because he had a vape. At this point the entire party walked away. He then proceeded to checking our IDs with the black light over and over as if he thought a spirit or something from the other world would pop out of it. Being 4th of July I was wearing a sundress, my cleavage was covered but he looked and said no I couldnt go in because of the size of my breast. Now at this point I felt discriminated. The location of this "Tavern" is not located in a high end place, it's surrounded by homeless people yet this establishment humiliates people that are trying to provide them business. Theres no way this business is doing great with the kind of "security guard" wannabe in charge of what type of clientele enters. As I called the establishment to let the manager Chris of what just happened outside he proceeded by saying if people are dressed provocative couldn't go in, as if the Pope was sitting at the bar. 10's across the board! I visited with a group after an event for the first time and I am glad that I did! I loved the chill vibe with the upbeat music. It reminded me of one of the old school bars that you see in the movies (the downstairs area). The waitress that we had that night was super friendly and professional. Bardog is a totally cool place right next to a legendary restaurant and definitely contributes to the nice bar scene of Memphis. Made a trip downtown with my 3 adult children, 22, 21 and 19, anxious to try Bardogs brunch. We got there and there was an expected wait, not a problem. They wouldn't put our names on a waitlist and only said there's a 45 minute wait and we don't take names. I said ok and proceeded to make a waiting line outside. Still no problem. We wait our 45 mins, get our table, only to find out once we got to our table that the owner has a 21 and up only policy due to them having an upstairs smoking section, which is no longer open. Waitress said it's the owners preference and made us leave. Wasted an hour this morning - don't know of any other restaurant/bar that offers brunch with an age restriction of 21 and up at breakfast. Owner gets an F- won't be back ever. But the good news is, walked down the street to Automatic Slims, had the most amazing brunch and mimosas. Highly recommend going there. read more

This place was awesome. It's open and serving food until 3:00am, so being on west coast time it was a godsend. Getting a start at 11:00pm. It's also one of the few bars that allow and encourage cigarette smoking. Definitely old school. The and drinks were very good, service at the bar was exceptional and the patrons were very friendly. This place has been great during our trip to Memphis. Super nice people working and they pour a mean drink. The food has been really good so far and it is down the way from Beale Street. It's downtown, so don't be surprised if someone asks you for money. But once you are in, it's a good place to hang out.
