There's a good selection of wines and spirits and a fantastic range of beers local, national and Continental. The wide selection of lagers and Belgian beers make it worth the trip to Commonside alone. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and make for a good shopping experience. Its location on a busy road in the suburbs does mean that parking can be a problem.

To the back of the shop there is an extensive wine area, which is Mitchell's speciality. There is also a large range of champagnes and even a specialised cigar area. The owners of Mitchells take a lot more care in the presentation of their stock than most other off licences, and the long, corridor like unit leads you into the shop and past the shelves of real and organic ales, past the spirits and continental lagers, until you reach the wine area. The staff are very friendly, and there are always special offers on other drinking paraphenalia, such as glasses, bottle openers and corkscrews. The family have had a shop in the area, starting in other forms, as a butchers and then a green grocers and it feels really nice to still be able to buy things from a local and well thought out business.

Red Zebra have a large range of fine ales, wines and spirits, and offer more than your regular off-licence. The owner is very knowledgeable, and will give advice on which wine to choose for a particular occasion, or to suit someone else's tastes. They have just started offering tasting evenings, with a different selection of wines or other drinks at each evening, a great opportunity to taste something you may not have tried before.
