Do not leave your pet here! We have used Bark Avenue for pet boarding for the last 15 years. They were amazing with our now elderly dog until one fabulous employee (Erin) left a couple of years ago. Now they are COMPLETELY incompetent. For the last 2 stays, they have "forgotten" to administer her eye medication. This is in spite of verbal and written instructions. Additionally, it has only been by happenstance that we discovered the repeated missed meds (incorrect charges on the receipt). As a result, our dog has trouble seeing and has great discomfort for days after the stay until her regiment is back on track. Giving feedback to the manager took 2 weeks, with multiple phone calls and voicemail messages. The manager promised this mistake would not happen again and they were implementing changes in their process. We gave them one more chance. Unfortunately, this EXACT scenario occurred during the second stay. Our dog went 4 days without the correct dosage of her medication. Her eyes were cloudy and obscured at pick up. We are supremely disappointed with the abysmal care they show to the vulnerable animals in their care. Your pet won't be able to tell you how they are (mis)treated during their stay. If you love your pet, don't leave them here. read more

Blake is absolutely amazing and so kind I discussed with him the reason why I would not be bringing my dog in and cancelled my reservation. All due to a very nasty unprofessional lady that works the front counter of the clinic. I called days before told them I'm all up to date with my dogs vaccines minus fecal and that I received some of these vaccines at a different place. Long story made short dropped of fecal sample and was told she couldn't accept it the dogs needs a wellness check. I have that but it was done at a different place and had to be done with them another lady that worked there walked up I thought she was going to say something so I looked at her then the one last I was originally talking to looks at me and says why are you looking at her!! Her tone was appalling! So I put the sample into the garbage and then she had the nerve to tell me it's to be thrown in the trash outside! It was in a specimen cup and a bio bag! Wow! At first, I rated this place 5 star because at first glance, everything seemed great.... theeeeen the complaints started rolling in. The woman who is in charge of the dogs outside, I think her name is Rocky, is so incredibly rude, no wonder she works with dogs and not with people. Her attitude when she talks to people is totally uncalled for. She is condescending and has no compassion or understanding. My dog is a very large 9 month old puppy and I constantly have received complaints about his behavior. He has been to an intensive board and train program and is certified as a service dog for my husband with a neurological disorder and passed his canine good citizen test. They claimed he was untrained and had no name recognition which I know is not true. Maybe he was being wild when he was there but I also know that he knows a LOT of advanced commands and always responds to them with us and his trainers. Also she talked down to me for taking a service dog to day camp, but what is it any of her business if we allow him to be a regular dog every once in a while? I also suspect that a lot of time they were putting him in a kennel alone as I have an activity tracker on him that I did not tell them about and it would send me alerts that he had been inactive. When I confronted them about it they refunded me my money for that day, meaning they know they screwed up. I have also driven by on my lunch breaks and seen him alone in a different part of the yard away from everyone else. This place is NOT cheap and to bring my dog there is a stretch for us but he loves to play with other dogs and be with his buddies so it seemed worth it, but not at the expense of him being ignored, mistreated, and not valued. Also today when I came to drop him off, Rocky yet again in her horrible rude manner with her attitude a mile high looks at me when I walk in and says "what is scout doing here?" Uh, he is here for camp, what else?! She turned us away and said they could board him which is NOT why I bring him there, I could do that at home for free, because he has too much energy. The other woman who works the front (with the blue hair who is super sweet) told me I could always bring him so long as it was before noon. I brought him at 11. I highly regret ever spending a penny here and allowing her to talk down to me like that. I've kept my mouth shut but I've honestly just had enough. I get that people have bad days but I am a paying customer, you want to keep a running business you better treat your customers right! Plus taking your pets here who cannot speak for themselves, I am so so so glad I have an activity tracker on him to monitor that they're actually doing what they say they are or to see that they aren't, otherwise how would anyone ever know? Anyway, long story short, we are cutting ties with this place and found another dog day care with better reviews nearby we will now be going to. read more

My fur babies definitely love coming to stay here for just the day or even a few days longer. They definitely suffer from doggie day camp coma for a few days afterwards which is always a good sign! They are always ready and groomed on time when we pick them up (after 2 night stays they require that the dogs are washed before going home). Prices are pretty reasonable and Erin who runs that half of the building (they are connected to the mission animal hospital which is another plus!) is super nice and helps make check in very smooth and fast. Remember to have all your updated vet records faxed or emailed in a week before you check in... This will help make things go quickly and you can be on your way. Overall great place and I feel very comfortable leaving my dogs here :) read more

Took my little fur baby there from 5/7-5/10 and she seemed to love it! The staff said she did great with the other dogs and ate well. My dog, Bonnie, has never been boarded before so I was so worried about how well she would do. I tried not to be the overbearing pet parent who would call to check in, but the employee I spoke with when I picked her up said that's never a problem! So good to know! The thing I like more about this place for boarding, as opposed to where we boarded my first dog, is that I feel like Bonnie gets more out of staying here. She actually gets to go play and interact with other dogs instead of just getting walked to go potty 3 times a day. While it does seem a little pricier, I think it is worth the money! The staff is friendly and you can tell they care about each pet. I would bring Bonnie here again! The only request I have would be if they could send some photo updates during the pet's stay with them. I know they have other things to deal with, but just some wishful thinking! :) read more

Never again. This was my third time using overnight boarding at Bark. This past visit, my dog was returned with a severe ear infection that looked to have been days in the making. The blood and puss was caked in her right ear and they didn't even mention it. In fact she had just been given a bath and was not yet dry. Failing to notice something this acute when bathing a dog is either malfeasance or outright incompetence. In either case, I will not entrust my pet in their care again. Dogs get sick. It happens. Ignoring it or them to this extent is shameful. read more

I hate to only give them one star because the staff if so nice. But last time we dropped our dog off she came home soaked in urine (no one was watching her and she was sprayed) and they offered us a free bath when we came back which was nice. But she was COVERED in fleas. I really think they should do a thorough check on the dogs before letting them mingle. I give my dog advantix monthly so I was very surprised when I discovered them. Now I'm having to bomb my house and pay for further medication. Also when we picked her up she was in an area all alone with no staff nearby. While next to them there were a ton of dogs playing together. I take her to the dog park regularly so I know she plays well with other dogs. Very disappointed... read more

We have taken our dog here twice and they have taken amazing care of our dog. It is clean, everyone is friendly and our dog loves it!!! She's excited when she gets there and one time was excited to see me and then wanted to go back inside to play! read more

I contacted Erin through voice mail (she never returned my call) and 3 times by the office staff at the hospital advising her that Hurricane Mathew had us stuck in Orlando an extra day. When I retrieved my dogs, Erin went on a rant about staying past her normal dismissal time and warned me not to try that again. I apologized profusely and she continued her rant. She never bothered to return my call to talk to me in person. One of my dogs was on medication for an eye issue which was clearing prior to boarding. I provided the medication and discovered his eye was worse than went I took him to the vet! They never bothered to administer the medication - it weighed the same as when I dropped it off! Additionally, I noticed cage indications on my dog's hind leg - it wasn't there prior to boarding. So, after shelling out more than $600.00 for two dogs - I will never use this facility again. I will only board at a facility that has a webcam so I can monitor my pets. My pets weren't abused, they were not cared for. read more

The staff at BARK are exceptional! I want to praise the groomer Darlene especially! I've been to Darlene 3 times now and can't say enough. I asked Darlene to cut my afghan hound into a puppy cut and it was so adorable and perfect!!! No easy task. I highly recommend Darlene to anyone. What a great asset to BARK. As far a boarding, i have boarded my two dogs there on two occasions so far. I feel that the staff is attentive and spends extra time with the dogs ensuring that they are comfortable and adjusting to their setting. While it iis a bit pricey to board 2 dogs, I can rest assure that they are being treated well and housed in a clean, safe environment. Another plus is having the 24 hour vet service on site. Since they are attached to Mission Animal and my husband and I love them we thought boarding with Bark would be a great experience as well. When I received a follow up call they didn't seem able to find the pet records with all the requirements for boarding which raised issues on "getting them up to date" even though they were. In the end even though it had been 9 months since their 1 Year Bordatella, both dogs had to get updated on it. When we dropped the furbabies off, the office personnel informed us that we needed to package their food a specific way, which we were never told, and because of that there was a $3 charge per dog per meal to bag them (but they waived it for us). Then there was going to be an $8 charge per day just to leave their blanket with them. We asked what the charge was for and were told because of time spent keeping track of personal items, which seems to me should be part of the $60/day we were paying for the two of them. We also didn't understand the $3/medication per meal per dog if we wanted to leave fish oil for dry skin or for any medications. They kept good care of them but definitely aren't worth the extra costs or headache caused by lack of communication. read more

Let me tell you my story. My husband and I have been taking our dog here since we rescued him in 2011. Since it was my first time experiencing any kind of boarding service, I really didn't know what to think or what to base my information on. I remember being a little skeptical at times because our dog would sometimes come home with stomach troubles. Of course, like any pet parent, we brought it to the attention of the staff and they tried to make some adjustments. We also tried another boarding service, but their accommodations weren't as nice as Bark ave's. They looked more like chain-linked kennels; as if he was going back to the shelter. I wasn't too happy with that. As time progressed, we realized that our dog had some severe anxiety issues that may have not been addressed with the previous owner. He did show aggression with other dogs since the beginning, but we didn't know the extent of his aggression. Eventually, this allowed us to look into professionals in animal behavior, which have been extremely helpful, and just this past year, we realized that all of his stomach issues were due to the type of food we were giving him! Which had nothing to do with Bark ave! With all of this being said, the Bark ave staff have been very accommodating and understanding with our little guy! We've tried to look beyond Oceanside and see if there were any other resorts with either an animal hospital close by or attached because I'm always scared that something will happen while we're not around...it's a paranoid parent kinda thing! The only one I found wasn't nearly the size of Bark ave/Mission Animal Hospital. Their running/play area had barely enough room for 10 dogs and their rooms/kennels unfortunately looked like the previous boarding facility we've visited before...cement floors, chain-linked fences...not the doggy hotel I'd choose for my bub! There really isn't a place out there like Bark ave. I know they've recently changed over to VCA, so a wellness plan is still in negotiation, but their original wellness plans have been such a money saver also! You get discounted hospital and boarding services and since we board our dog quite often, this has helped so much! Gotta give major props to Erin and Rocky! They've been so helpful, patient, and understanding with our little guy; even with all of his issues! I really don't know what we would do if we'd have to move. I have been here a couple of times and each time they "accidentally" added costs they assumed I was aware of. The first time was following a grooming session where I specifically indicated that I wanted my dog completely shaved due to him starting to tangle throughout his coat. Nevertheless, they combed him out and then tried to add extra costs. Most recently I boarded him. They failed to tell me that a bath at the end was $20 extra. I paid for the bath but again they conveniently failed to mention the additional cost. This place is really not as high quality as it projects so the shady way in which it goes about making extra money is enough for me to say I will never use their services again and I would recommend others do the same. Pet Suite Retreat offers way better customer service. I did not use them because this place was closer to my home. Never again. read more

I don't know why I haven't reviewed this place sooner! I can not say enough good things about the resort, grooming and staff!! They treat my four legged son as great as I do! They have accommodated my work schedule, kept me aware of his vaccination dates and even done them while he's there to play along with any grooming needs. It's a one stop shop for us! I am pretty picky when it comes to my dogs. This place is one of the few places that I feel cares about my dogs. I'm impressed at how clean and organized it is.
