I write this review with great happiness and sadness. Happiness for being able to experience this delicious spot in Dumbo and sadness because I was so happy to try my food that I forgot to take pics to remember the moment. This Texan found Texas level smoked meat in NYC and I was pleasantly surprised by the taste! These guys have it right. I tried a pound of brisket, marble cut so very moist, one pork rib, with a delicious pepper bark, and the Dominican rice and beans, and the cornbread. Everything was a 10/10. Came here on a saturday evening around 6:45 PM. Although every other stall in time out market was relatively short, bark barbecue had a very long line. We decided to wait, and it took us 45 minutes to get our food. My favorite meat was the pork ribs. The brisket was tasty but a bit on the dry side, and the sausage didn't stand out to me. I wish that the meats all came with more sauce. Out of the side dishes, I liked the cornbread the most, although the rice and beans and the mac and cheese were also tasty. I'm a bit surprised at some of the lower ratings, but this place was delicious! We didn't get the slaw that's supposed to come with the sandwiches, but I don't eat it so I was fine with that. There was a decent line at 2pm on a Friday, but by the time we sat down and ate...the line had doubled, so it seems the earlier you go, the better. I liked that you can tell them what cut of the meat you want. I don't like the fatty parts so I was able to tell them and they cut the exact right piece for me. Meats here are priced by the half pound which is a good amount for 2 people to try. So between my partner and I, we ordered: BRISKET - $19.50/0.5lb - 2 slices PORK RIBS - $16/0.5lb - 2 pieces Both meat selections were well seasoned, tender, and rich. SO GOOD!!!! Wow, I was so impressed by this! The 2 sauces to dip in is a must but even without them the meats were good! MAC & CHEESE - $6 (small) The sides come in 3 sizes and the small is plenty for 2 people to share as a side. It was really good, and I love how dramatic it looks with the cheese sauce overflowing, and the cup filled to the very top like a mountain. Cheesy, creamy, and everything you'd expect from quality Mac n cheese! My friend and I rolled up while browsing time out market and the sound of Dominican bbq was irresistible to me. It was a good sign that there was a decent sized line too. Very casual place. If you've never been, it's in a cozy food hall type of place. Chill. Great views of the water and bridge just outside. When you first rock up there is a guy who slices of a piece of brisket for you to sample. That was a very nice touch but I've had better. The brisket flavor was there but it wasn't tender whatsoever. It was on the lean side for sure. I ordered the larger of the two beef ribs that were on display and it was monstrous, absolutely massive. I had a late breakfast so that was more than enough food for at two meals. My friend and I got our meals to-go. She ordered the maduros (cooked plantains), brisket, cornbread, and chicharrones (which were delicious). The longanisa was good albeit a bit spicy, definitely well seasoned. My friend LOVED the mofongo (both of our first time trying it). It isn't always on the menu apparently. I thought it tasted like Latin stuffing haha. Not my cup of tea but the flavors were there and it was very interesting haha. All together my Mofongo, beef rib, and longanisa totaled almost $75 before tip which is pretty hefty must say. It is a ton of food though and you're definitely paying a premium for the meatier items. My friend wasn't impressed by the cornbread and only had a bite or two. Same with the brisket. Too dry. Once you order and get your food, there are a lot of seating available (kinda cafeteria style). There's also outdoor seating where you can get a beautiful view of Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline. I ordered the Beef Brisket (which you order by weight). I don't usually write negative reviews, but I was really disappointed with both the service and the food during this visit. When we first arrived, we weren't greeted and stood there for a while before anyone acknowledged us. After placing our order, we were told there would be about a 20-minute wait for the mac and cheese, which I had no problem with. They brought out the rest of our food while we waited. However, the person who took our order never gave us a receipt, which I didn't realize until it was time to pick up the mac and cheese. Unfortunately, that employee had already left, so when my friend tried to explain that we had ordered it, there was some pushback from the staff (which they wouldn't have known so it's no fault on them). We eventually received the mac and cheese, but it was disappointing. There was far too much cheese compared to the noodles, which made the texture very thick and heavy instead of creamy. Making it gummy like. Overall the food was mid except for the sandwich. While we were eating, the employee who originally took our order came back and told us we "didn't order that size," then walked away with an attitude. I didn't appreciate the tone or the approach, especially since we were never given a receipt and there seemed to be a lack of communication between staff. She also never asked me what size mac and cheese I wanted, I simply said I wanted mac and cheese. And all my friend did was do the same to the next set of staff members. This was my second visit. I wanted to give the place another chance because I had heard good things about the sandwich, which I did find delicious. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn't live up to expectations. Bark Barbecue in the Time Out Market in DUMBO is an absolute must try. They are located on the 5th level of the building, and while you will probably see a long line, do not let that deter you. Take it as a sign of how good the food is because the wait is absolutely worth it. Before I even get to the food, I want to highlight how friendly the staff was. Even the person who was not serving me made sure to greet me warmly, and both servers offered me samples of the brisket and sausage, which if anybody knows me, know I'm not turning that down. For my order, I got the pork ribs, rice and beans, and the torta Dominica (not pictured). Everything was amazing. I love bbq, and this place did not disappoint. I cannot say I fully understand what officially qualifies as Dominican Texas bbq, but whatever they are doing, it works. Super cool spot on the terrace/rooftop of Timeout Market in Brooklyn. Located in the upper food court, this is one of the spots you can't order online so you have to queue to order food. The line moves relatively quick and you can get bevies from the bar for sips while you wait. We got the longanisa, beef rib, and brisket. For sides we got the mac n cheese, pickled veggies and corn bread. The meats were by far the best I've had when compared to the other southern bbq spots in the city - extremely tender brisket, flavorful sausage with the perfect bite, and the beef rib was just plain impressive. Got here around 6pm, the wait was a bit long but the line moves. The other half of our party had to hunt down somewhere to sit because it was crowded. The longaniza was probably one of my favorite bites. The ribs were tender and peppery. The chicharrones were crispy. They sell out quick of certain items. The mac and cheese was good, the maduros were crispy and sweet. The cornbread is dense and the honey butter on top is very sweet. Located inside Time Out Market on the 5th floor in DUMBO, Brooklyn, it's worth the trip--plus they've got rooftop seating with killer views of the City and the Brooklyn & Manhattan Bridges. At lunch, the line was long (about 20 minutes), but once you order, food comes out quick as they put your order together right in front of you. I went for the Tres Golpes sandwich--pulled pork, fried cheese, maduros (plantains), and bark sauce on a fluffy bun. So many layers of goodness! Honestly one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Juicy, flavorful pork, crispy cheese, sweet plantains, and that sauce? Next level. Highly recommend grabbing an extra side of it. Paired nicely with a cold refreshing watermelon cucumber margarita from the bar! The menu is loaded--meats by the 1/2 lb, sandwiches, sides--and prices run about $25 per person for a meal, standard for the area. Solid service, great food, and those rooftop views seal the deal. Ok, I finally gave in and made the trek amongst tourists to give this place a try. We got there about 12pm on a Sunday so luckily didn't wait more than 5-10 minutes before ordering. We tried the brisket, beef ribs, longaniza, Mac & Cheese and the bread. The staff was super sweet and gave us some free samples :). Longaniza was def the best thing I had, the beef ribs were also great. Brisket was as good as brisket usually is (but nothing stand out). The bread was great but HUGE, we could have shared one piece for two people. Mac & cheese was also solid. I wouldn't say it's the best BBQ in NYC but it is very good. A friend begged me to go and it's rude to say no to free food so i showed up We got there at about 6p on a rainy Saturday evening and the Brazilian music was BLASTING, such a fun but loud atmosphere, don't expect to have a deep conversation here. We were able to grab two seats at community style tables furtherest away from the live band, but the QR ordering system doesn't work so we went on line and let me tell you why im happy it didn't. You go up to the counter and there's a sweetheart chopping, weighing, pouring meat gravy back onto your cut of meat AND giving you a small sample of whats to come. The line moved pretty quickly and we were able to snag another two chairs but got the food packed to go, just in case Now the food. Oh my god, the food. My first bite was the mac and cheese, its so easy to ruin mac and cheese but not this one. Soooo cheesy and when they describe it as seasoned? They meant it. I prepared my own carnita on a tostone since we did a to go tray, topped with the green heaven sauce and just wowwwww. I could bathe in that sauce and the carnitas was delicious. I grabbed a fatty thick piece of brisket, to diieee for. Dipped in one of their two bbq sauces?? Wheww. I only took a bite of the rice, also really good, but i needed to save space for the tres golpes. What a mix, tender meat, salty fried cheese, sweet maduro, highlighted by the green sauce that i am willing to inhale at this point, all wrapped up in a soft potato bun, HEAVEN. Tucked away on the 5th floor of TimeOut Market, Bark Barbecue has a wide selection of meats and sides. It is on the expensive side where $16 can get you 2 pork ribs. Their pork ribs are decent and somewhat tender, but didn't blow me away. I was given the end cut of the brisket which was very lean and not juicy or fatty at all. While it had the smoke ring, it didn't pass the fold test. The plantains were soft, gooey, sweet, and nicely caramelized, but just very very greasy with a pool of oil at the bottom of the container. Lastly comes the Mac and cheese-- the star of the show--which was extremely cheesy and well seasoned. Overall, not bad. The staff were nice, and there is plenty of seating in the market. This is my first time at the time out market. I traveled from the Bronx to Brooklyn just to eat at bark bbq. My husband was so excited to try this for his bday today and it def didn't disappoint ! It's located in the 5th floor. We took the elevator up and waited in a fairly long line but it moved fairly quickly. We ordered the brisket, pulled pork, smoked carnitas, beef ribs, longsniza, Mac & cheese, queso frito & torta. It totaled $159 and was def worth it. Ate some there and took the rest home. Everyone kept stopping us as we sat to eat to ask where we ordered from. The whole tray looked and tasted great. My husbands favorites were the beef rib & the brisket. Mine were the brisket & Mac and cheese. Loved the torta too- wish it came with a scoop of ice cream or cream. Truly enjoyed the great food and service. Highly recommend this spot. My family and I visited Bark BBQ before heading to a Brooklyn Nets game. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened, but the lines were always too long. This time, the wait wasn't bad, so we finally gave it a shot. We ordered the ribs, chicharrón, and brisket, along with maduros, mac and cheese, and congri rice (moro). The food was good overall, but I didn't quite taste the hype. I was expecting more distinctive Dominican flavors in the meat, but honestly, they weren't really there. They definitely need to write a recipe book because everything was SO GOOD! The ambiance was very nice. This is the most popular place in all of Time Out Market, and you can tell by the insane length of the line. Be ready and willing to wait, but honestly, the barbecue is worth it. I came here with my mom and sister around dinner time, and the food hall is packed and noisy as always. (Not my favorite environment to eat in, but good for multiple cuisine options and bringing visitors.) The line surpassed two other storefronts and made it to the bathroom. We were in line for a long time, and they were sold out of brisket, rib tips, and cornbread. (Will have to come back for the brisket another time.) The employees are extremely efficient and helpful. They typically don't cut the meat off the beef rib, but my mom asked, and the guy was immediately like, "I got you." You order the meats from the middle section, and then on either side, there is a cashier and you can order the sides and drinks from them. Don't forget to grab a couple bbq sauces in the center counter, and the to-go containers and bags on a little table to the right of the storefront. We got a half pound of pulled pork, a beef rib, and three medium sides: mac and cheese, pickled vegetables, and maduros. Everything was hot and absolutely delicious. If your unfamiliar with the Timeout Market its basically a large food court with various spots to eat and get drinks. While at Bark BBQ I tried the Brisket, Pork ribs, Chicharron, Smoked carnitas, small mac and cheese, rice and beans, and sweet plantains. All the meat was extremely juicy, the brisket had a nice amount of fat to it, and the Chicharron was the best thing I ate, I would definitely come back just to eat the Chicharron alone it was so crispy but juicy at the same time. The rice and beans and sweet plantains were great but i wasn't feeling the mac and cheese to much I felt it was missing the flavor to me. There are other food stands and lots of indoor and outdoor door seating at the rooftop level. They also have a bar and there was a live band. Plenty of people were dancing and the vibes were great. Since there were mostly picnic style seating, you can make a friend or two. It was very crowded on a Wednesday evening. I was honestly very disappointed in the food and service. They were trying to get my friend to pay multiple times. At first they blamed the internet which for the cost of things there. They need to do better as a building. Get boosters etc. At times my phone would lose service so that was plausible. However after the transaction went through they were still trying to get her to pay again because they didn't like the tip she left. They literally came and found us at the table eating to come back and pay. Even after she showed them the charge on her account. They made her swipe so much the bank sent a fraud alert. It eventually got settled when the owner had to be called because she refused to swipe again. When it was proven that she paid. The owner gave her a coke for the inconvenience. Unacceptable! The chicharron is the BEST thing I had. Flavorful, crispy with the right amount of fat and chew. I ate a half pound by myself. I would've ate more but we got a pound and I had to share. I would've gotten more but the swiping experience left a bad taste in my mouth. But I would come back for it. The Mac and cheese was bad. I didn't like how it was flavored and it was dry towards the middle. Seemed old. The ribs were thin and powdery. The dry rub wasn't dissolved and I didn't like the flavor. It wasn't balanced. I can't put my finger on which spice was the most overpowering. But I can taste it as I think about it. 4 pieces of brisket equaled a pound. While it was tender it was still dry and again the spices used weren't balanced. It wasn't flavorful in the way that I wanted it to be. Like how fat adds flavor. The cornbread was good. Wish they served it with salted butter. Didn't really get the honey flavor but I'm tired of honey flavored things so I didn't miss it. The rice and beans was fine. Nothing to go crazy about. Local spanish spots served the same quality or better. They gave no sauces except the green sauce for the chicharron. Some bbq sauce maybe could've helped the ribs. This was a recommendation. The way it was described was Texas BBQ with a Dominican flair. It did not did not disappoint. After a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, we were told to go to the top floor of the Timeout Market. We were told we would know the spot by the line. There were a few of us so we got different foods from a few vendors to share. From Bark BBQ, we tried the plantains, sausage, brisket, carnitas, fried cheese. We also got wings and a pizza from nearby restaurants. Everything I was told was true. The was the line to get to the food, but boy was it worth the wait! I will definitely be back. read more

I have been so excited to try this place and came from LA. When I pulled up and didn't see a smoker I was confused They were nice enough and recommended certain things to us and what they thought it would've been filling enough With that being said I will say that the cornbread and the brisket was mid. We tried the pulled pork and Mac and cheese here and I think it honestly might be the best pulled pork I have had. I would definitely come back to try more! After an hour of ice skating at the new Roebling Rink, we came to Time Out Market to grab lunch. Bark has been on my list for a while now, so choosing it for lunch was an easy decision. What was not so easy was deciding what menu items to order, especially given that we were at this wonderful food hall. What ended happening is that I ordered multiple items to try that we couldn't order more food from other spots. We love brisket so I know we had to try it. However, their version was on the leaner side and didn't offer that melt-in-your-mouth texture that I expected from brisket and the flavor of the meat was a bit lacking. The chicharron, on the other hand, was amazing as it delivered three layers of texture that I craved; the crackling, the fatty layer, and the meat all combined into each bite of joy. The smoked carnitas was the pleasant surprise, with two piles of freshly chopped flavorful meat (I believe they said it was the burnt ends of the brisket) topping two pieces of tostones, with nice contrast of the soft chopped meat and the fried tostones. We also ordered the mac and cheese, which was creamy and enjoyable. Overall, Bark is a solid option for barbecue in the area and the service was nice and quick. read more
