I am so happy I found Barkoff Dental. A friend recommended Dr. Barkoff to me when my dentist of twenty years in Garden City retired. After searching for quite a while, I finally found Dr Barkoff, and he is all about quality care. Going to the dentist can be ominous but it has been a totally pain-free experience at Barkoff Dental, very "chill environment" and I am no longer anxious about going to the dentist. The staff there is wonderful, the office is immaculate and the vibe is friendly and caring. In my first call to schedule, I spoke with Julianne, the patient coordinator, and she was so wonderful and super-supportive. Nothing is a problem there; the office is very accommodating. Most of all, the dentistry is the best. Dr. Barkoff does beautiful cosmetic dentistry as well as general dentistry. I've been a patient at this facility for the past 3 years! I truly hated going to the dentist and that all changed with Dr. Barkoff. Every dental hygienist I've gotten a cleaning from here has been gentle, yet thorough. I've also had a few cavities filled by Dr. Barkoff and the process was minimal pain and discomfort - not like previous fillings I've experienced. I was so nervous but he explains everything to you and is so knowledgeable in his field! He talks to you through the whole process making you feel more at ease and comfortable. An added plus that he is approachable with questions or concerns you may have about your teeth. The atmosphere of his office is friendly and very clean - which I love. I actually ventured out to a different dentist for a few cleanings because the location, at the time was more convenient. But that office doesn't take my insurance anymore and I was on the search for a new dentist again. I called Dr. Barkoff's office a few days ago to see if they still took my insurance and I was so happy they did. My information was all still intact - making my transition back to Dr. Barkoff's office so effortless. Another plus is that they email you reminder of your appointments! I am extremely unhappy with my experience as a patient at Dr. Barkoff's dental practice. I only went to Dr. Barkoff because my previous dentist was no longer an in-network provider under my insurance and was located near my home. In October 2022, I had a check-up and cleaning with Dr. Barkoff and was advised that I would need a tooth extraction, bone grafting, and implant procedure for ONE tooth (Tooth 30). After the appointment, I received the pre-authorization form from my insurance company which reflected Dr. Barkoff's submitted charges and the estimated out-of-pocket costs for my procedure. Although Dr. Barkoff mentioned that only one tooth would require an extraction and implant during my appointment, the pre-authorization form indicated that three additional teeth required crown-related work, with a total estimated fee submitted to the insurance company for $14,230. As result, I went to a different in-network dentist in my neighborhood for a second opinion. This new dentist referred me to an in-network oral surgeon for the one tooth that I had discussed with Dr. Barkoff during my appointment, and stated that the rest of my teeth were healthy and did not require additional work. The oral surgeon confirmed that only the one tooth required an extraction and implant, with a total estimated fee of $2,934, as opposed to $14,230. As a result, I am currently having my implant procedure performed by the oral surgeon. I felt like Dr. Barkoff was attempting to scam me (possibly because I am a senior citizen), by performing work on perfectly healthy teeth. Senior citizens should be allowed to retain their healthy teeth, and not have dentists perform unnecessary work to make extra money at our expense. Therefore, I am writing this review to warn others (especially seniors) to be mindful that these types of scams are possible, and to have a deterrent effect on the dishonesty of some dentists. read more

Had an really bad mouth pain and called Barkoff dental. Being a pandemic I really didn't expect to get an appointment and they got me right in for an emergency appointment. I was able to do all the paperwork online so I didn't have to sit in the office for a hour filling that mess out. When I got there I only had to take one X-ray and they saw I needed a root canal. They did it immediately. I told Dr. Barkoff how much of a baby I was with dental pain and he was really assuring that he wouldn't do anything if I felt any pain. Let me tell you, I felt NO PAIN at all during the root canal. Afterwards, I had no pain at all and my mouth wasn't swollen at all.Dr. Barkoff and his assistant were so nice and gave a great experience! I've never been so at ease at a dentist office! read more

This place is a total scam. So our dentist who we have been going to for 20yrs is retiring soon and selling his practice. We decided to start looking around for another dentist. So I'm a referral from my wife's friend we tried Dr Barkoff. My wife makes an appointment for a visit for a cleaning and checkup. The dentist tells her she has a cavity and that we need to schedule another appointment to have it filled. First red flag there (why can't you just do it now like most dentists?) probably because they want to bill you for another visit is my obvious guess. On top of that their prices through Insurance mind you is 50% higher than most practices because they said of their location in Syosset. Whatever that means? I'm not following the logic there on their explanation. So anyhow we didn't schedule an appointment but rather went back to our usual dentist and told him that Barkoff said she had a cavity. He examined her and said She Does Not have a cavity and that a lot of dentist these days say that when you have a groove in one of your teeth a lot of dentist will say it's a cavity so they can make some more money on it. He said the proper procedure is to keep an eye on it to see if a cavity develops before filling it unnecessarily. Just want people to be aware what kind of practice this guy is running. read more

Would give this office 0 stars if I could. Came here last year for a cavity and the experience was great up until I got the bill. Before leaving the office I spoke with the front desk and was told they would bill my insurance. After about a month of back and forth, finally was this billing issue fixed. This experience didn't steer me away from returning however, I called the front desk today to ask if my insurance would be accepted and was rudely hung up on by the women at the front desk. This place is quick to take your money, and turn you away if you don't have any! Would not recommend coming here. read more

MONEY GRABBING CLINIC For all new customers or even existing customers please take note that you should always get your Xrays from this clinic after a consultation and get a second opinion. I came home in tears as to how I was going to afford a bunch of treatments that would have put me in dept. Upwards of $9000. Thankfully my mother is a professional dental hygienist and has been for over 20 years. The only reason I even came to this clinic was because my mother is now retired and this clinic was closer to my home. My experience at this clinic was far from professional with Dr.Peter himself not even using equipment to check for any of the outrageous amount of cavities the hygienist said I needed, not to mention a three crowns. I called my mother up and explained the situation and she urged me to get my xrays. I took them back to the office my mother worked at and I have been going to for upwards of 10 years. He not only confirmed that I did not need such a large amount of cavities filler or any other work done. I only needed 1 minor cavity filled between two of my front teeth. I have the proof from this office in form of an xray they are legally required to provide if asked to show that they tried to scam me out of my money, well how ever much my insurance would not cover. Dont be fooled by the up date office, this place is out to charge your insurance as much money as possible. Be aware of the vast amount of questions the hygienist will ask you to "test" your knowledge on dentistry, clearly to see how much they can get away with. All I want from this review is to educate and urge anyone who goes here just for your own piece of mind to take your information and get a second opinion. I HATE going to the dentist. I mean REALLY hate going to the dentist! DR. BARKOFF IS UNLIKE ANY OTHER! He is friendly, easy going, and gentle! I can hardly feel when he injects Novacaine, and he talks through what he's doing. I've never been to a dentist I trust more than him. The receptionist staff is super friendly also! Especially Nicole! They take the time to remember the patients which makes it personal. I've been to dentist's that do the work first and THEN bill you. NOT here! They tell you what you're in for before you get the work done. This place is upfront about what you need done, and how much it will cost you. (That's how it should be!) I have been searching for a professional, friendly and technologically advanced dental office for the last 2 years and I'm telling you....I finally found it! Dr. Barkoff's office is one of a kind. His staff is phenomenal. From the young ladies at the front desk to the ladies who assisted while I was actually in the dental chair (initially nervous & shivering), the service was comforting and caring. They made sure I was happy at all times. I was in and out of there in such a short time it was fantastic. Now, I know it's absurd to use the words 'fantastic' and 'dentist' in the same sentence but I assure you, this doctor is the absolute truth. I had an annual cleaning coupled with a root canal in preparation for a crown. i was so apprehensive, but I did not feel a thing...I mean it!...Not a thing. I was so scared at first, but even the Novocaine insertion was a breeze. That's right, I said it...a breeze. Dr. Barkoff really knows what he's doing. If you d nothing else in the next few hours, days, weeks...please make an appointment with him and it will change your view of the Dentist experience entirely. My initial experience with the medical care was good. Although something strange started happening, and I've NEVER experienced this before with any other place or person. They'd make an appointment for me, and I'd put it on my phone calendar. Then when I'd show up, the receptionist told me it was the wrong date and time. This happened on four separate occasions. I'm a professional and am very timely with my appointments. This was weird, I thought they were either having computer glitches or were bumping my appointments deliberately perhaps to squeeze in patients getting more extensive $$$ work done, don't know, hard to say why. Only that they did it four times. But that led into something even more concerning and troublesome: on three occasions they told me I did not pay when I did pay, and paid in cash. The first two times, I paid their annual fee twice in the same year, and paid for some dental work twice, so that they quoted me one price, but then it ended up being double. I liked the dentist and was happy with the work, so I just paid it and walked away a little taken back. But most recently, they pulled that stunt again. I was having some work done and when it was completed, I paid the balance in full at the front desk. Some months later I get a phone call requesting a few hundred dollars they said I owed. I told them I did not owe anything and explained the whole interaction. Didn't matter, they kept at it. It was then that I realized they'd been scamming me deliberately. The dental work was good and fast, but cosmetically it wasn't great. Technically good but artistically limited. So this was overall a reasonably decent experience that turned bad. Seems they pick and choose who they will be straight up with and who they're going to scam. I had to call my friends who I recommended this dentist to and inform them of what happened, because I can no longer recommend their office. A shame, so foolish on their part, petty, bad ethics, will be their ruination if they don't change, word gets around. read more

Dr. Barkoff and his staff are simply the best! The girls in the front are always so friendly and have a smile on their face. They are accommodating and honest. It's not one of those offices where you wait forever. They let you know if they're running a little behind schedule, if ever. I've been going to Dr. Barkoff for years and probably have had every hygienist clean my teeth. They are all gentle and leave me feeling great. Dr. Barkoff has come through for me in emergencies. TERRIBLE! RUN!!! The hygienist said I had 14 cavities, needed a crown, and a deep scaling. She was very scripted on what she said to me and made me feel like she knew her stuff, but I didn't know better. I'm not in the field, but I have friends who are. The dentist did not even check the hygienist's suggestions on my "cavities" with an instrument. He spoke little to me about what needed to be done. He did ask if I had questions, but he should've spoken to me about the diagnosis in depth. 14 cavities and a crown are BIG DEALS, especially $8,000 worth. I went to another office for a second opinion, a family friend Dentist, and he said I had only TWO cavities and did not even need a crown or a deep scaling. A discoloration on one of my teeth from braces was misdiagnosed as decay when it wasn't at all, and some teeth there was nothing at ALL. Also, a deep scaling is not suggested for people who do not have severe gum problems. It was all money making so they could charge my insurance. Dr. Barkoff's suggested plan given by his hygienist would've costed me $8,000 and lots of drilling on perfectly good teeth, unnecessary dental work. This is seriously the scariest thing I've ever encountered. You do not mess with people's teeth!!! 100% honest review right here. Good looking dentist, beautiful high tech. office, and even great looking staff, but do not let that fool you, so unethical. I'm posting this so no one will be taken advantage of like I almost did, because it is the right thing to do. I do not want anything rectified for me nor do I want a dignified response from the office. After several BAD dentist visits with DIFFERENT dentists (not mentioning any names, ahem, Plosky, ahem, Shine, ahem) I stumbled on Dr. Barkoff's office while looking for a new dentist. Man did I get lucky. This place is great. The front staff is SO FRIENDLY and beyond accommodating. The first thing I should mention on the list of great reasons to make this your dentist is the fact that the front staff gives you a breakdown of what your insurance covers and what you'll be responsible for BEFORE you have any work done. This means you get to decide whether or not you can afford it, or whatever other reason you may need. Sounds like that should be normal for any dentist right? We'll for most other dentist offices on Long Island, they like to do the work without even letting you know how much it'll be. Dr. Barkoff is great. He's easy to talk to, actually cares when he's talking to you, and gives you straight answers (whether you like it or not). I'd rather be told what's wrong and what his professional opinion is and then make the decision myself which is exactly what Dr. Barkoff does. The waiting room and exam rooms are clean and comfortable. The waiting room has a plush couch and a few chairs with a TV and complimentary coffee and water while you wait. Appointments are filled on time, which means if you're appointment is at 1pm, you actually get in at 1pm. As far as the drilling, picking and cleaning experience goes, Dr. Barkoff makes the whole procedure painless and quick. I've already had more than one root canal done, as well as a few fillings and crowns done without pain, and the Novocain typically wears off in a few hours (3-4 hours if I had to take a guess). I've already recommended friends and family to Dr. Barkoff and figured I should write a review so everyone else can know too! I have been terrified of the dentist since I was about 6 after having a horrible experience. Needless to say, I didn't keep up with my dental checkups as I should later in life and developed a lot of cavities turned root canals. When I finally had to go, thank god I found Dr. Barkoff.
