This is the place to go if you're looking to learn about lavenders and looking for help selecting the best variety for your situation. I really can't say enough good things about Chris - she was super knowledgeable, helpful, and patient in consulting which variety of lavender would best suit the space I had in mind and my use case (low maintenance and only needing one trim a year). Since she runs the place by appointment only, I first called then emailed with more details of the space I was trying to fill and what I was looking for. After some back and forth, I made an appointment to stop by, look at specific varieties, and pick out some plants. The day of, she went through the different families of lavender and helped me narrow down to a specific variety, looking at the dried cuttings from last year as well as plants in her garden. She also had plenty of other hardier medicinal plants available including multiple types of mints, thymes, rosemaries, and other herbs. We're so lucky to have so many wonderful lavender farms in the Willamette Valley region, and Barn Owl is definitely one of my favorites to visit during lavender season in late June through July. Come here for the best selection of lavender varieties, the best lavender products like sachets, wands, and lotions & potions, and best of all... an opportunity to view how lavender grows, feels and smells in the garden. If you're anything like me, you need to see plant varieites in person, not just in your favorite garden design books. I can't make a decision on what's going in my garden unless I see how someone else has implemented it. Located in a residential setting, parking wasn't the first consideration when designing the layout of the farm. If you or someone you're visiting with has mobility issues, try dropping them off near the entrance before parking. The gravel path has a gentle grade and can pose risks for those prone to falls. But don't let that deter you from visiting the crown jewel of lavender farms in the area! read more

We had a wonderful time visiting this Lavender farm & gift shop. Cris and Rosie were so nice, welcoming and helpful. Rosie even shared with us how they harvest lavender and the different types and what it's best for. The gift shop is relaxing with the surrounding lavender scents. Lots of cool stuff! The handmade soaps here are so fragrant! Lavender Blueberry jams, Lavender lip balms, lotions and many more lavender, herb items & even Lavender lemonades all available perfect to take home or as gifts! The lavender farm is free if you want to walk around, they also have a beautiful small garden and lots of plants available in the nursery for purchase. I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Oregon to stop by this small Lavender farm and gift shop it's near downtown and the suburb areas. This review is long overdue, but Barn Owl Nusery was one of the first nurseries I visited when I moved to the area 7 years ago, and it's definitely my all-time favorite. The owners are the most delightful people, friendly and helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. Even before Covid, they had limited hours, but you could pop in on a weekend, stroll their test gardens to see what grows well where, eat a lavender cookie or scone with lavender iced tea, peruse their charming gift shop, and fall in love with their amazing selection of various herbs, lavenders and lavendins, and sundry flowers. Now, it's appointment only, and definitely worth getting onto their schedule. I have visited many times over the years, and most of our garden plants come from this wonderful place. This is an adorable off the path nursery in between Wilsonville and Tualatin. The grounds are absolutely lovely and fairly walkable. We were impressed by the expansive herb selection, and the customer service was excellent. Our daughters loved the free cookie samples, and my wife and I both enjoyed the homemade tea. If you need to get away from the world but don't want to travel far, this is exactly where you should go on a nice spring or summer day! read more

I went to this hidden gem during the July 2013 lavender festival tour. They had a few vendors selling jewelry, lavender products, and yarn soap outside. They had a side tropical garden with lavender, palm trees, and a hibiscus looking flower bush. The nursery in the back had scented geraniums and other unusual plants that smelled like lemons, oranges, peppermint, and other spices. They also had several kinds of lavender for sale. Up front they were selling rosemary, thyme, and a variety of different kinds of basil, ......... If you love these plants for your garden, please do visit. The place also had a delightful gift shop. My parents were with me for this trip. My mother and father were having their 41st wedding anniversary coming up so my father bought my mother a heart necklace and dragonfly fashion pin. The owner said the jewelry was hand made locally. They were all reasonable pieces. However, when my dad went to buy the pin the little glass gems started falling off of it. It definitely needed to be made with a finer glue. The owner gave my dad a small discount and he mended the jewelry at home. They have a lot of stationary, tea items, scarves, jewelry, lotions, lavender products, and gifts. Some prices were very reasonable other products like bath beads were more higher priced. Overall, I was delighted to find this quint shop off the beaten path and she told me they are open only on weekends through August. However they open up in November and December on weekends for a holiday and Christmas event shopping showcase. I hope to come back then and see all the season greetings and do some holiday shopping that is unique and festive. read more
