I love a good library, and Upper Shores is a wonderful asset to the community! My nieces have been…read moregoing here for years to check out their summer books - we have a summer residence in SSP, and Upper Shores is a short car ride (or bike ride) away. Recently, we spent some time here on a rainy day to just read and chill out. First, if you're an avid reader, Upper Shores has a great selection (both in person and online) of books. The library does appear a bit on the small side, but don't let that fool you! In addition, the staff will be happy to order you a book on loan from another library and they're usually there within a day or so. Their loan time on Libby (which you should all download for e-books and audiobooks) is 21 days which is better than my local library at 14 days. The app is also a coinvent way to look up and place a hold on desired books so they can be ready for pickup. As I mentioned, I also spent a wonderful afternoon here with my nieces. We parked ourselves in some comfy chairs and read for a few hours. There is plenty of space to do just that - and I was pleasantly surprised with the free phone charger locker that fast-charged my phone in a matter of minutes. I also know they have a great selection of programs available for kids throughout the summer, too! One thing I will say: it is very difficult to get a library card here. Only tax-paying residents that show proof of address can get a card here. Therefore, my parents are entitled to a card but I (as a member of their household) am not. The same goes for my nieces - even though they are in elementary school, they are not entitled to a card as a member of their parents' household. So I registered my mom for a card and am using her number to take out books. The staff kindly but firmly talked me through this whole process. I understand why, however - there are so many transients in the area, I can see a vacationer borrow books and never give them back. You are entitled to a guest card for 10 dollars if you aren't a taxpayer, however it's only good for four weeks. Regardless, library are important cornerstones of communities, and I am very happy to use / support Upper Shores!

You can get access to a bigger selection of ebooks if you sign up your library card with the libby app. For those that are here for the summer only and wondering how to get a card, you can bring in a copy of your tax record or I believe a utility bill to apply for a card. This really is a nice library. On the second floor there is a deck overlooking the wetlands and bay which would be a great spot to read and enjoy a cup of coffee. The sea isle city historical museum is also located within the library. Now, the main thing that gets this library 5 stars is the kid's programming. We came here all summer and the amount of programs they have for kids is awesome. The library in my hometown still refuses to do any in person indoor kids programming because of Covid and never brought back out the kid toys. My daughter is only 3 so she has never been able to enjoy our local library (Haverford Township) for basically her entire life. So, the SIC library has been a breath of fresh air this summer. The children's librarian who does story time is great along with all the other the library workers. Thank you to those who run this library for providing great educational activities! And for other parents who may be concerned, the programs for young kids here seems to be developmentally appropriate and not "woke"!

The location is right after the shopping plaza area and right before you get into the residential area; it's a little hidden if you're not looking carefully. The Library is clean and has some nice personal touches by thanking donors and volunteers. The staff is friendly and it has sufficient seating throughout the Library. The seating in the far side of the center area is nice since it has a lot of natural light and the nature sights are relaxing as you are reading or surfing the web. The one downside is the decor is a bit outdated, but being that this a not a large library and not a lot of foot traffic...it may be a while before it's upgraded. They have several different events and programs held throughout the month.

The children's librarians are extremely helpful and very welcoming. Their sitting area for children is furnished with many couches, chairs and tables, conducive to reading silently or aloud.
