The line was long but didn't take much time to get through, they also validated parking for 2 hours! Staff was friendly, I did had to point out that the puzzle we got wasn't at sticker price ($23) as there was a clearance sticker on the front (they should make the color more clear because we also missed it at first). read more

This location has three floors. It is one of the larger stores compared to other locations. Don't let the narrow, limited spaced second floor fool you. The third floor makes up for the lack of space on the second floor, and extends deeper than the first. Service is fair, the selection of books are extensive, prices are great, especially if you are a rewards member. I don't like that the cafe and restrooms are on the third floor. Not convenient for people with wheelchairs or strollers. It is one of the bigger Barnes and Nobles, but parking here is a hassle. Plan an additional 15-20 minutes to get a parking space. read more

Came in not having a clue as to where to find some books on a particular floor-this bookstore is humongous. Like really, you can park a small planer to in here! Nicole was the customer service All-Star here spending way more time than one would thought they were entitled to get, particularly amidst these crowds. that's it, the crowds look like they're constantly in motion and moving around. We love Barnes & Noble, all locations. During our visit on a Saturday we visited the Barnes & Noble at The Grove. We were looking for specific books. According to Barnes & Nobles website they were available at this location for purchase and pick up. Sure enough all 5 books were available. Barnes & Nobles have excellent customer service. We were greeted and asked if we needed assistance several times. Thank you to the gentleman (sorry we didn't get his name and he was Asian) at the comics and manga section who helped us find 3 of the specific books we needed. He was awesome. He even spoke to us about Marvel, DC and BRZRKR comics. On the third floor they had a table full of Wicked books which my child likes and we picked up one. They also had a spot set up full of books from different designers. My favorite section of the book store is their Art and Photography. They have such a huge and great selection. read more

Charlie had the best time meeting other pups, and we all left feeling so inspired. I'm currently waiting in line outside for a cd/vinyl signing that was scheduled 5-6:30. This signing was clearly oversold and there isn't much remorse for it. Everyone is showing up at 5 just to be told to check in with your letter and your scheduled wait time. Your wait time is just to line up and not even go in. Stop hosting events and book signings like this if you're going to make people wait outside and outside of the events projected time window. My time to "line up" was 6:50 and I arrived at 5.... I went back to this location and I must say, it's a beautiful, spacious bookstore! It's almost like you're in a museum. They really made it nice when they modernized it with the shelving, signage, and refreshment area. I wish this location could be uprooted and put in my B&N location in my area! I like the magazine section and I see it's now way up on the 3rd floor in the very back, but I really like the way they arranged the shelving. You see an endless amount of books. Let me start off by saying I love Barnes and Noble and I'm thrilled they've made a comeback in the past few years. Barnes and Noble at The Grove has been my go to location since moving to LA in 2011 and I loved it. Then in the past year or so they decided to remodel. I thought..great..a fresh look. But the new look and organization is chaotic to say the least. The checkout on the main level is at the back of the store which means to leave you have to go through what looks like a pinball machine of tables and shelves not to mention people just to get out of the store with your purchase. And the way they laid out their store is like someone made stacks of layouts, tossed them in the air and went with what ever fell to the ground. There's no rhyme or reason. Mystery on one floor, Sci Fi and Horror on another and on different ends of the store. At first I thought it was temporary due to the continued remodeling but nope...this is it. It's so difficult to find anything you're looking for without asking for help. And when you ask for help even the staff have no idea. I go up to 3 where Mystery used to be. Can't find it so I go down to 2. Spot a team member. "Excuse me...where is Mystery?" "3rd floor." I must have missed it so I go back up and go around the 3rd floor twice. Nothing. "Excuse me...where is Mystery?" "Down one level." Whoever designed the remodel turned what was once a relaxing place into an aggravating experience. Shopkeepers here have always been very kind and helpful whenever I've had questions for them. Sometimes they get really busy given the location and size of the store but I've never felt like I received bad customer service here. Selection here is pretty great. Probably 9 times out of 10, I'll find exactly what I'm looking for -- even more lowkey books sometimes. Of course this isn't an online shop like Amazon that has almost everything in the world but if Barnes & Noble carries what you're looking for and it's not in stock, the shopkeepers are happy to order it for you. Now about prices, we live in a time when inflation has risen and things are more expensive everywhere. Yes Barnes & Noble is a chain but the overhead of keeping staff and a neat physical space will inevitably make your book purchases here more expensive than other places. Usually I do find that Amazon or other websites will carry books I want for cheaper but whenever I'm in the area and need to scratch the itch for a book I've been wanting, I get it from the physical store. read more

Service at the cafe was god awful. The "cafe" is extremely UNPROFESSIONAL. I ordered a beverage and pastry and multiple people who ordered after me received their order before I even got my beverage. The guy in the front said he was going down a list and when I finally get my pastry it was not my order. Turns out they gave my food to someone else. When I asked for a refund he claimed he couldn't give me one without my receipt. Shocker he never gave me a receipt. This place is garbage. Save yourself a trip here get a book and go to la la land or an actual Starbucks in the farmers market. WILL NOT BE COMING BACK for the food at least. read more

While exploring the grove I saw a sign indicating a Barnes and Noble with a Cafe. I had hoped to look at a book while drinking a nice cold cup of coffee. To my dismay it was closed due to renovated The staff looked very exhausted and distraught. A textbook picture of demoralized. I even heard one of them say "There is no reason we should even be open." I can't help but agree especially with the place being a construction project with no bathrooms. These are all signs of very poor leadership from the top I am aware bad management will try and blame what is their problem on their staff. Motivate your staff pay them what they are worth and give them a raise. The book store should not be the most depressing place in the Grove. In some months when renovations are done I may return and give an updated review. read more

I'm writing this in the hopes that everyone is made aware as well as that it may cause change in policy. Parking validation now expires and is ERASED after two hours. If you get a 2 hours validation when you go into a store, but you stay for 3 hours, you now pay for ALL THREE HOURS instead of the last one hour. The store is blaming the Grove parking systme, and the Grove concierge is blaming the store - no one is defending the customer. The B&N cashier said that the parking system changed and now customers are geting charged. I talked to the concierge at The Grove and they had a prepared statement that was lawyerly and cagey - and BLAMES the STORES. "We have been informed by the stores that the validation will expire" and it doesn't acknowledge that the policy has changed or that the policy is hostile to the customer. This is like if you have a problem using Microsoft Word on your Mac laptop - and Apple says it's Microsoft's problem and Microsoft says it's Apple's problem. read more

So happy to see a bookstore. Okay it's a mass market one... But where I live you have to drive pretty far to find a bookstore! My friend and I enjoyed this 3 story book & gift wonderland spent a leisurely hour or so wandering around touching and feeling books with paper... Oh the joy some youngsters may sadly never know?! I visited this bookstore awhile back when it was under heavy renovation and I honestly must say that I couldn't have been more disappointed and frustrated, not due to the renovation itself, but because there wasn't a single place to sit down, in the entire store, and the bathroom was closed as well. I was so annoyed that I vowed to never return because I felt the least they could have done is to provide a little comfort for the shoppers. I returned. Today. I was hit with a pleasant surprise. As soon as I walked through the door I was hit with splash of trendy, beautifully presented decor and ambiance. It was an entirely different place! A whole new store. I believe they're still fine-tuning the place but it seems to be happening without too much inconvenience to the customers. "Way to go" B&N. Good job. I will most definitely be back. I have had an amazing experience at this store! I came in for a Q&A for Cassandra Clare and unfortunately had broken my ankle a few days prior. While I was supposed to be in standing room they offered to bring a chair into the standing room area and then when a few people didn't show up were able to move me up to the seated area. I picked up two books & drove from Pasadena to the Grove. When getting home I find one of my books was damaged. I updated my review because after calling customer service they told me I could not get a new one shipped to me because I picked it up in stores. After talking to one of the customer service managers Cheryl she was so rude & not offering any help. She stated because "I didn't look at the book before I drove home" it was my error. I asked if there was someone who could override the system? She said no I asked if the location I picked it up from could ship me a new copy she said "Idk you'll have to call them" Why am I having to provide solutions to a error that was done by your company. Cheryl girl what do they pay you to do all day Then after calling the grove they where easily able to ship me a new copy within seconds (5 stars for y'all now ) when it took Cheryl ( YAS I SAID HER NAME 4 TIMES I HOPE SHE GET IN TROUBLE ) over an hour with a really nasty attitude & no results. The place was renovated pretty well and had a great floor plan. However, the staff was rude and made me felt like i was bothering them. It was not just one but 2 staff gave me hell of an attitude. I bought a coffee per usual and the barista were nice. I didn't asked for the receipt since it's another trash that i don't need. When i'm about to leave and asked where can i validate, the guy i asked seems made me feel like i asked a wrong question and he directed me to the cashier. I went to the cashier a bit irritated since i never experience such hostility from this store before. I got in line patiently and when its my turn, i asked for ticket validation, she told me only if you're a member or bought something from the store. I smiley pointed at the coffee I'm holding. She started to get irritated and asked for the receipt which i don't have ,and gave me a big sigh and a speech "i'll do this for you, but next time...". Mind you the cup has a barnes & noble logo, so i don't think a receipt is needed for a proof and just a COMMON SENSE will do, but i guess COMMON SENSE ISN'T THAT COMMON AFTER ALL. I asked why is everyone being so rude, she then shrugged her shoulder and says it's the new policy. I worked in a service industry for a while and you don't have to be hostile towards the customer to relay the new policy. This B&N hosts celebrity book signings all the time. The employees at this location are pretty nice about giving out "event intel" (probably because they do it so often)! I've been to a few of their events... a handful of cookbook talks/signings, kids' events, and one musician meet and greet.... all pretty good experiences! We pay $25/year for B&N membership because we buy books often for ourselves and for gifts, so we pay off the annual fee easily. It's nice to get priority in line for events also. Bookstores are sadly a dying breed... So all the more reason to visit often! This is probably my favorite B&N in LA. Follow them on FB for all their latest events news. I had high hopes for this store. The 3 floors are not necessary. You walk in and there is movies and CD to buy. 2nd level had a few shelves of books and clearance bins, but nothing much else. The top floor is what a typical Barnes and Noble looks like. They were setting up a book signing. I loved the game section! It was quite big and organized. My main beef was the checkout process. I tried to check out at a Cashier, and they told me the only checkout was at the Cafe 3rd floor or bottom floor. What is the point of other checkout counters if you cannot checkout there?? The customer service was decent. When I walked in, the staff was quick to ask me if I needed help finding anything. Very friendly! Overall, a nice store, but I was expecting a better layout. Just went to a book discussion for Julie Andrews and had the absolutely worst experience with the bookstore. The employee in charge of check in had no idea what was going on. Additionally, they set up 100 chairs for the 300 people they sold tickets to despite having extra chairs. They got upset that people were early to the 3rd floor venue so they announced check in was on the 2nd floor causing a mob of people running down escalators to try and be first. The employee was unbelievably rude. I will never go back here. read more

This is like the super B&N located in the Grove! One of the biggest and best bookstores I've been to with great events all the time. I love to eat at Farmer's Market, get some sprinkles cupcake, maybe watch a movie, then hang out at this bookstore. We came to bring a young family member to purchase a book but us two adults drove separately with the same intention to purchase a book and we did so. While upon paying, the cashier had a attitude which was quite rude. We asked to validate and while doing so he turns to the second party saying you have to make a purchase to validate (which we did) then proceed to say "I guess I'm assuming your with them?" With sass. Like of course we were with them, we were all in a transaction together and talking. Try to get employees that don't have to be rude. Also, they didn't even end up validating. read more
