I was looking for a new campground for our annual family camping trip for the Perseid Meteor Shower (2nd weekend in August), and I wanted a campground with beach camping or a nearby lake... this campground checked all the boxes. It's a 5+ hour drive, but it was definitely worth it. Yeah, so there's pay showers, I couldn't figure out to get a hot shower...so let me tell ya, that was a BRISK and fastest shower I've ever taken. LOL! ...and I cannot wait for our camping trip this year. I look forward to getting more familiar with the campground and local attractions.

    Can't beat the view!

I almost hate to review this gorgeous beach since it seems to be one of Michigan's best kept secrets. Seriously, it's Memorial Weekend and there are only 4 other people here besides my family at the beach! The Great Lake State at its finest!

This was a referral from a friend. One of the 2 best camp grounds I've ever experienced. If your into brewerys, Shorts brewery is a straight 14 miles west on same road, makes it even better. Our campsite was amazing. The beach was super cool, found 24 Petoskey stones, laid in sand on beach, realy nice service, fills up quick, just pick your site then set up and wait for the guy to come by and collect the fee. Restrooms were clean. I couldn't more highly recommend this camp ground. One of the best ever.

Great place to camp! We camped in a tent and I really loved how you get to choose which site you want. The beach is only a short walk away and is just gorgeous. Very clean, well maintained. Campsite had a nice picnic table and fire ring and was well shaded. Very peaceful here. Definitely would come back.

Beautiful beach. Just came for the day. Clean bathrooms. The kids loved the big open playground. Sand volleyball set up. Will come back to camp.

We have camped here twice. Family friendly campground with shower houses and flushable toilets. Right on Lake Michigan.

The campground was clean, the spaces are not cramped together and more than a few have lake views. There is running water, pit toilets, and steps down to the lake, and each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring, and parking spot. A few are against the forest, some are in the middle of the site, and the others kind of by the lake (these were my favorite, nothing like waking up in the morning and looking out on a clear blue body of water). Overall I was very happy with this campground, it seemed underused, which was kind of surprising given the beauty and quietude of the area. My only complain was that it had a lot of yellow jackets that wanted to eat my lunch more than I did. Bring spray or something, you're probably going to want it. Or maybe it was just my site, who knows. You can fish in the lake, it's stocked with trout. The water also seemed very clean, I almost went for a swim (it wasn't that cold either). There is also a day-use area, so you can just picnic or fish if you feel like it. To get here you have to drive down S Stephan Bridge Rd and will then take a left - keep your eyes peeled for the sign. There is also a sign on MI-72 which will point you in the right direction.

The restrooms are awful, the showers are awful, looks like black mold to me. Some prota-potties on site that are gross. Management is very nice. I have seen some people leave as they can't level their unit. One guy lost his down the hill two weeks ago, so be VERY careful setting up. No laundry anywhere near. No Sewer hook up though they do have a dump station up the hill. TV is very SPOTTY too, Smart TVs do not connect all the time, and the antenna channels are tough to get. Sights are very tight. Found out there's no refunds on early departures. If you have a tent, or one of the more level campsites, this place will work for you. Unfortunately, it did not work for us and would never consider camping there again. Only reason I gave it 2 stars was the internet on our crooked un-level site was very good. Never heard a word about free wood when we checked in, before seeing the campsite on the mountain.

I left out around 10:30 or so and didn't hit any trails as I had packed some snacks for late but no breakfast. Not much in the way of restaurants or groceries around here so I hit the road. Can't speak to the trails or day use part of the park but the campground and adjacent beach was beautiful.

I suggest finding a walking stick for the water. It helps guide you, and it helps you move some rocks. The next time I come here I definitely want to bring a sifter because I saw so many cute tiny ones with the rock pile. My twchnique was to pull the ones near the water down, and I found quite a bit this way. James used the stick to look in the water, where you will find medium to large rocks. Overall the secluded atmosphere is soothing and relaxing.
