Our usual location wasn't open so after picking up the paper we walked by the fruit market and saw that they had some fresh flowers in the front of their store. The couple who own the shop helped us pick out a nice combination of flowers to put together - and even pulled some from the back for us. The bouquet turned out very pretty and on top of that the man said "I like you" and threw in a free avocado (it's a fruit and vegetable market, you know). I've been back multiple times (mostly on Sundays) and the arrangements are always fresh and beautiful. So far we've also gotten a free mandarin, apple and grapes (again, all delicious). They are open 7 days from 7am - 7pm so we can always count on them being open.

After driving past this place hundreds of times, I finally stopped and did my fruit and veg shopping here. It was the middle of the day so pretty quiet, they have onsite parking and little trolleys to push around. I actually went the wrong way around the aisles so ended up finishing at the entrance and having to retrace my steps. Novice mistake! The quality of the produce seemed good on the shelves, the tomatoes looked way overripe but they were such an awesome deep red colour I had to buy some anyway. There is cut up fruit if you want to grab something for lunch, which was tempting but I resisted. I also scored 12 tins of tomatoes for $10 which was a bargain; you can never have too many tins of tomatoes. I nearly bought some tortellini and Greek pita from the fridges until I realised that it is produced around the corner from my house, so resolved to go direct to the manufacturer! I got a big box full of fruit and veg, the tin tomatoes, juice and bread rolls, and it came under $40. Pretty good I reckon. Update: I bought a 3 pack of avocadoes for $3 and the first one was rotten. Not keen to try the others...

Not a bad deal in this day and age. In addition to that, it's also got a good selection of biscuits, sauces/marinades, oils, cheese and other bits and pieces that almost makes up for the lack of a local deli. When the shop opened it was worse because they sold whole boxes of fruit down one side of the shop. Thank goodness they no longer do so and the area is free of lookers! They sell specialty vegetables for all nationalities, Asian Greens, Lebanese eggplants etc. The stacks are always full and the shop stands out like an island in the centre of the food hall.

They sell other fruits and veggies too.. The fruits are definitely fresh and last a lot longer. They also have a frozen and dairy section inside where you can buy cheese and yoghurt. At the entrance/exit to the store there is a small counter where you can sample chocolate dipped strawberries and a variety of dips. You can buy Lebanese breads(also sold here) to enjoy the Hummous.

Once you've gone and had a look around at Country Grower's, you'll know what fresh REALLY looks like. Nothing is wilted, nothing is yellowing, nothing has brown age spots on it, nothing is soggy and squished, it's sublime. Fresher, *and* cheaper. Why wouldn't you buy your veggies here? Why WOULD you pay more at a supermarket for old stock? You wouldn't, that is madness. At Westfield Parramatta, luckily, Country Grower's is located just a couple of levels down from Woolworths, so it's not too much of a hassle to head there after you've done your generic shopping. Others of their great brands and products include Mamma Rosa's frozen pastas, DeliVer deli meats, Pukara Estate oils (and gift packs in time for Christmas), fresh Brasserie breads, Serendipity ice creams (both pre-packaged punnets and by the scoop) and dry pastas made from spelt and wholemeal flours. They've got heaps of deli meats and cheeses in their display fridges and are one of the few places I've found in Sydney to sell Raclette ($39 per kilo).
