Stopped by on a whim yesterday and we were not disappointed. From the sweet & friendly cashier to the absolutely delightful meal it was a wonderful experience. They definitely deserve the kudos. We ordered the oxtail, curry chicken & jerk chicken. Being that it was our first time trying their food we wanted to try a variety. The portions are almost enough for 2 without it being too much. The plantains were tasty & crispy. Steamed cabbage side was nicely spiced. Oh the rice with the oxtail sauce was almost like something you would eat at home after school. And Let me just say the curry chicken was so flavorful & just a touch spicy Husband and oldest son loved the oxtail. The youngest son agrees with me that the curry chicken was the winner. I'm sure that's how it's supposed to be but i just didn't know and didn't really like bit the food was pretty good and so was the service. On the hunt to try and find something different to eat, I decided to try some food with Jamaican flare. I was pleasantly surprised to try this place out and really impressed with the flavors! I ordered the jerk chicken which came with a very generous serving of rice, chicken, and a cabbage salad. There was also some yummy fried bananas included too. I enjoyed the spices on the food and I really liked how spicy it was. Be warned though the spices can be pretty strong, but being that the food is Jamaican I expected nothing less. I will be coming back more often as the menu had a few other meal options I wanted to try. The service was also excellent and the guy running the place was prompt and had great customer service. My son got the chicken curry and basically inhaled it to the very last drop. Portions are so generous for the already reasonable price! And the lady who helped us couldn't be sweeter. All the ranting and raving about this place is completely true! When I have been in Jamaica it was a cruise stop and I was always curious to try the food on the island but we did not have time. Many of the restaurants that make jerk chicken in the states substitute more peppery heat instead of a full spectrum of flavor. After watching Andrew Zimmern and Anthony Bourdain in Jamaica filming the local preparation and cooking this is how I imagined it would taste - layers of delicious flavor! Barrington was very nice and accomodating. I don't tolerate spiciness too well and he toned it down for me in heat but it was still really well seasoned.You would think how nice can he be since he is just passing food across the window. I wanted to try a little bit of everything being my first visit and he had just run out of jerk chicken. Seeing my dissappointment he offered to grill up some more if I'd be willing to wait. He also gladly obliged to make a another plate with a combo of curry goat and oxtail. Service with a smile and his pride in what he is serving comes through in all the dishes. One reason, the menu is simple. In my experience places with simple menus focus on a few dishes to ensure the quality and this place definitely lived up to the expectation. After evaluating our choices, we landed on Jerk and Curry chicken platters. As you can see from the pics, the portions are solid. I've been here once before and fell in love, then craved it for the longest time, and finally went back yesterday. The portion sizes are SO generous and every meal comes with a beverage.
