She made everything about this experience amazing and went above and beyond to make sure our party was taken care of. Stop by for the restaurant week deal $33 per person. Decided to get the margarita flight with three different flavors, strawberry mango and classic very good. The guacamole was probably the star of the night for app. They were all very good. I chose the three tacos which were really filling and had really good flavor ! For dessert, I had the churros which were filled with caramel inside unfortunately, they did not have ice cream, but they were still good without it. Don't go here...place looks cool from outside and I sd the decor looks cool Stopped at Barrio Queen after doing the wine trail in Scottsdale, hoping to get some good food in us -- big mistake. The tableside guac was bland and barely seasoned, and the pomegranate on top made it even worse. Chips was nasty too and didn't help at all. Service was slow even though the place wasn't busy, which made it more frustrating. The tacos came out cold and honestly were some of the worst I've had. We didn't have the greatest experience here but I think it has potential to be a great spot. We arrived on a Monday early evening and the hostess was not happy we didn't make a reservation even though the restaurant was not even 1/4 full. She didn't want to seat us in a booth or table as there was only two of us, so we sat at the bar. Trying to get the bartender to check on us was not easy, and got frustrating when we wanted to leave but had to wait 15 minutes for him to show back up so we could ask for our check. We ordered guacamole and it is usually prepared tableside, but we assume they didn't want to make at the bar. I requested no cilantro and it was served to us packed full of it which made me feel they had one extra in the back and just brought it to us. I saw and ordered a Mexican Coke on the menu and was told they didn't really have or offer that. The food was "ok" but nothing great. All in all not a great experience. read more

We just ate at the bar for happy hour. Definitely try the elite ribs, which is corn ribs (partially on the cob). The flavor is really good. The guacamole is also delicious, with pomegranates in it. The chicken quesadilla was ok, not sure how you can go wrong with a quesadilla. It took 20-30 minutes to come out. I think our bartender forgot about it, it was his first week working there. However, he was nice and comped us for it because we were in a rush. I'll update my review if we eat an actual meal here again. read more

Saw this place on tik tok so I thought I'd check it out during happy hour. I get there and ask to sit outside. I was feeeted right away and could pick my own seat. Service was quick and they give chips and salsa with a water right away. I ordered 2 tacos and a non alcoholic margarita (since I couldn't drink that day). The drink came out after the food and tasted different. It was good but just different I added another taco and got full. I walked to my hotel and felt funny.'it was a different type of full bc my stomach hurt and I was nauseous for the rest of the night. It wasn't the food but the drink which didn't look mixed at the bottom because when I tried to vomit, no food came up. Meds and ginger ale wouldn't help either so if that had that affect on me I can imagine what a regular one will do. I'd go back but wouldn't drink the margarita. read more

This is the original location in Scottsdale, AZ. Noelle was our server and simply fantastic. She was extremely attentive, friendly, and her knowledge on customer service was impeccable. The food was delicious, well prepared and simply a treat. We had the famous signature guacamole(hard to beat), the Mexican street corn and the cheese quesadillas. The portions were great and appetizers were the way to go for us. We also had the Margaritas and topped the great meal with the churros for dessert. What a tremendous experience!!! This Barrio Queen is conveniently located in the very center of the Old Town of Scottsdale, just one minute from the canal. The patio is well decorated and it is relaxing place to stay even longer. I ordered chile en nogada as it is a seasonal item. It was very good, although it has obviously some differences compared to the original ones in Mexico. Honestly all I have to leave a bad review but I just want someone who may spend $100 or more on Mexican food to know what's up. I will say the service was good and friendly. Nothing stellar but no complaints. The food however was just meh. We ordered the table side guacamole. It was only two avocados and just prepared really haphazardly. It's like the waiter never made a good guac in his life before. Ok whatever I'll wait for the main course. I ordered the steak fajitas and the fam got variations of taco dinners. My meat was completely unseasoned. Not even salt mind you. Just nothing on the steak or veggies. My son's carnitas platter was the same story. Like how do you not season? It seems to be the number 1 thing you do ya? Then the meat itself was really tough. If you going to use inside skirt steak you need to prepare it better. Came in today for lunch with the family. I have heard about this restaurant and thought why not give it a try and I'll say now I'll be coming back. Started with the chips and salsa which was amazing. Salsa nice flavor and chips nice and crispy but not over cooked. Then we got the queso which was nice and flavorful Al's had mushrooms, beef, and some type of pepper. Also got a strawberry frozen margarita. I got the trio fajitas and the meat was cooked perfectly as well as the peppers. Mom got the same thing, and my other half got a carna asada burrito. Service was amazing and the place is nice and clean and has that whole feel of family as well. We will be returning for sure. read more

Cute Mexican food place! I got a shrimp taco and it was pretty good. I also order a mango Maratha and it tasted like soap. Wasn't the best thing but the barrio marg my bf ordered was good! The service was iffy when our food came, we had a table of 12 one of the servers tried to hand me other people's food to figure out who it belonged too. I kindly told him I don't know what others ordered as I was sitting at the end of the table. I was in shock because it is not my job to figure out whose food is food. Service was okay, they didn't know which order belonged to us. Me and my girlfriend's orders came out on one plate together for some reason. The texture of the queso was disgusting and gritty. It had a cheese pull like it was mozzarella. It didn't even cover the bottom of the container like a liquid should. Guac was good and fresh, would have been better without pomegranate. We were at another location years ago. We're in town and were walking around and shopping when we decided it was time for lunch. There just happened to be a Barrio Queen right by us! It was pretty busy, but there were tables available and we were seated right away. The menus appear to be old and the print is rubbed off here and there throughout the whole thing so it was a little hard to fill in some of the blanks. Hmmmm.... so this place is straight up loud! But being that this was our only time at the restaurant, we'll just say it was the particular customers on the evening we were there. So, it may not always be but that is all I think about when I think of dining there again. We are fun girls and love a good party, but it was like a nightclub loud, so we opted to go sit outside instead. Yes, it had been over 100 degrees that day but it had cooled a bit (no breeze though). The bartender, the waiter, and the busser all told us (without us even asking) that they'd ask the manager to turn on the misters. They never came on in our hour + dining experience. We ordered one round of drinks and stopped at that since they were eh. So much for our night out drinking. Chips and salsa were not bad. I had two tacos; quesabirria and shredded pork, both were excellent options and I enjoyed them both quite a bit. Served with a cute little side of chips and cheese to accent. These were the two options recommended by our waiter, and he was right! My friends also enjoyed their tacos. Service was pretty slow, but we also noticed that they may have been understaffed, but maybe that's the norm for this place. I was so excited to have dinner at Barrio Queen but, unfortunately, it didn't meet my food expectations. My friends said their drinks were good. Of the 3 main dishes, only the Molcajeto Mixto was good. I had the Pollo en mole poblano (didn't taste the flavours to make this dish rich and hearty). Half of my plate was filled with black beans - too much of this and too little of everything else. We did order an appetizer to start but I couldn't remember the name as it was also just ok. Our server was nice but a little excited calling us darlings and speaking fast. I just nodded my head to stop the need to make conversations with her. The atmosphere well is clean and well decorated. This one is not my top choice in Old Town. I'll continue read reviews to see if it does change and then hope to return. read more

Came here in Feb. with out of town friends . Wife and I got the birria tortas and could not find meat on either sandwich , we ordered this many times before . When we opened the sandwiches and showed the host , he half laughed , said YEAH , and walked away . Having worked in the food industry , I was surprised at the blow off . Haven't been to Barrio Queen in over 15 years but, as a rideshare driver, I have enthusiastically recommended it dozens of times to my passengers. My wife and I made the 45 min trip here for my birthday. We arrived at 6 PM on a Tuesday evening and it was fairly empty. We were seated immediately and offered water, chips, salsa and menus. My wife got two tacos and a side of Mexican rice while I got three tacos plus chorizo refried beans. It was "Taco Tuesday ", which was buy one taco-get one free, so our server alertly pointed out that I had another available. I added a fourth taco, for leftovers. We also each got a jalapeno margarita. In all, it came to $55.63 which was very reasonable. Our drinks arrived within eight mins and our dinners arrived in about another eight mins, while we snacked away on chips and salsa. The street tacos were full of protein, flavor and accompaniments, each with their own unique taste. We were both happy with our choices but also both agreed that the Birria tacos stood out, due to the richness of the beef. Service was on par, the drinks were well crafted and our meal was very satisfying. We will try to revisit Barrio Queen before another 15 years goes by! read more

It got bought out by a big chain and like everything but it ended up becoming about profit rather than quality. Everything here is mediocre. Cranky hostess. Also had a sign out front offering $6 margaritas and $4 beers. When we asked about it they said sorry, that special is over. So we're off to a bad start. They were having a BOGO special on tacos so we each got 2. They were quite good. Busy outdoor patio was a little chilly in the shade with wind. When I got the check I determined that they're either very bad at math or they're dishonest. According to them, 18% of $28.32 is $7.13. See photo. My calculator made it to be $5.15. So beware. I was walking around the area when I came across Barrio Queen. As luck would have it Happy Hour starts at 2pm. As soon as I entered I was greeted and offered seating at the bar (yes please) or dining room. My server brought me puffy chips and salsa - salsa is good and spicy. My server was very attentive and helpful. Spicy margarita and skinny margarita were refreshing on a hot day and on HH for $5. Pozole verde - I enjoyed a cup and they don't skimp on the pork. It's tasty - they didn't overdo it on the onion or cilantro - I would order this again. Served with 3 corn tortillas Grilled fish taco: I personally wouldn't order again. The taco is mostly cabbage and pico and a very small portion of fish ... like really small that I pushed aside the toppings to see if there was actually a piece of fish I was told Barrio Queen has been there for about 20 years so I am sure they do have some really good dishes because there are some really amazing restaurants in this area read more

Love Barrio Queen, have for years! They actually catered our wedding in 2022. This was right after they changed ownership but we never noticed any difference in the food.
