Stopped by Bartell Drugs and was a bit underwhelmed by the selection, especially in the sweets aisle, which felt pretty empty. Most of the other aisles looked understocked as well, giving the store an overall sparse vibe. Only one employee was visible, working the cashier, and they didn't seem very enthused. But I get that, sometimes it's just one of those days. They still offered the usual services like photo printing and a pharmacy, so basic needs were covered. 5 stars for Craig and the other guy who was helping me find cough syrup. I thought I was allergic to being outdoors this weekend but I've been feeling that upper respiratory cough all day. Enough about me, let's applaud Bartell Drugs for being the last of the independent drug stores! It's a large store with a lot of cool merchandise and they stay open until 9 pm other than the pharmacy which closes earlier. I haven't seen a revolving seed rack in ages. They have everything I needed including masks which I recently ran out of. I might need one for my flight tomorrow. I want to check out all the Bartell's in the area! read more

This has become a CVS and gotten 1000x worse overnight. No help being given to long-standing pharmacy customers through the transition and singularly dismissive of any customer support whatsoever. I was willing to hang in there for the transition, but I'm getting none of the help that I need or would expect. We got our latest COVID-19 boosters here, because it was the closest location that stocked the child dosage. I also got my RSV vaccination, because it seems I'm getting old. Service was kind of slow, but no points off for that because every pharmacy (like practically everything medical) has been slow since the mass retirements during the worst of the pandemic. The pharmacist was fantastic: cheerful, happy to answer questions, good at giving injections with minimal pain. (She's the one with the very posh British accent.) Besides general necessity, we got the vaccinations in anticipation of travel. Last time we flew, I got COVID-19 in the Los Angeles airport, and time before that, my wife got it in the same place. Airports are bad news for disease -- worse than the planes once everyone is seated. I mention the travel because we were very low on two medicines I take regularly, and I didn't want to hunt for them while we're away. They had them both -- on mix-and-match second item half price. Finally, for candy enthusiasts, this store is a dreamland. Other than specialty candy stores, I don't think I've seen that much candy in a small store in a long time. The boy was excited about that aspect of the store, even more than the vaccination. I'd switch our pharmacy business there if the store were closer, even if Bartell Drug has been bought out by Rite-Aid, which is currently in bankruptcy. read more

Updated from 2 to 3 stars. Here is why: 1. Michael's response lets me know that they are listening and use it as an opportunity for improvement. 2. When I returned late in the day, the staff was attentive. 3. Please note because you have to either decide declining consultation or saying you got the consultation. I usually want to say I will get the consultation. They did give me a good information this time. Though earlier in the week I had to pick up another bit of information and they just basically said for the consultation that I should have directions from my doctor. That is true but it would've been helpful to actually have a conversation. I did have some questions about further over-the-counter products I could purchase that would also help address why we picked up what we did. That said they missed an opportunity to sell us more items because of the response. That said, we will go back again and see how it goes. It means a lot when a business responds back With it helpful and open dialogue approach. Thank you Pharmacy review: 1. Sometimes they have been efficient and helpful. 2. However, many times they are the opposite of helpful. Let me give you an example. Went today at about 1115am and it was quiet. No customers at the pharmacy and three pharmacists on hand. My husband had just had an intense oral surgery and was still under the influence of his sedation meds. The prx from the oral surgeon could not be transmitted to the store even though they tried. We stopped in on the way home to get it fulfilled per doctor orders. The doctor office also wanted someone with my husband ie me. I provided the script (we are already in the system) & explained my husband was in the car (very hot) and wondered if they could fill it quickly since I was not supposed to leave him. They told me 30 minutes! It didn't mater our situation....and if it was busy i would understand, however, i knew they could fill it pretty quickly. The disappointing issue here is that they did NOT listen, connect or empathize in any way. I understand if they truly could not fill it for 30 minutes. I waited 5 minutes as they had someone working on it. I asked again if they might be able to have it much sooner since already in motion, and the gentlemen in the photo (on right hand side of the pharmacy) said that if i asked it would certainly take longer and it does not encourage them to speed it up. I again reiterated that A. I could not leave my husband or myself waiting in the HOT car (it is a heat warning day) B. & returning in half hour was not an option per requirements not to leave him alone. I get it if a customer is all demanding but i was quite clear, kind and apologized for my unusual situation hoping they could help us out especially as no customer was at the counter or waiting. To have all 3 pharmacists just not humanize their interaction is disappointing. read more

Used to be a great neighborhood pharmacy and drugstore but has become exactly what I worried about when it was acquired by Rite Aid. Stock is frequently low or they are out of the items I am looking for. Recently went there to buy band aids and Vaseline or Aquaphor for a wound, and they were out of the size of band aids I needed, no Vaseline and just a few Aquaphor. What kind of pharmacy/drugstore doesn't carry these basic items? Used to be the same pharmacists who knew their customers. Now more turnover and they seem extremely busy. Really disappointed in the decline. read more

This Bartells location has gone downhill since they were bought out several years ago. I have shopped there for 40 years, and I very much want to support the local businesses. However it has gotten to a point I can no longer do so and would not recommend shopping there to anyone else. Their inventory is pitiful, the pharmacy cannot be trusted to not make mistakes, and worst of all we were treated so rudely the other day. I went in with my 94-year-old mother and she asked for help and the cosmetic department. It took a long time for someone to get there, and when the clerk arrived she literally verbally attacked this sweet little old lady. She screamed at her that opening the lipsticks was product tampering or some such thing. I said we didn't do that at the same time that my mother said I brought this in with me. She then informed us that we could rummage through the bins of clearance items if we wanted to try to find the item that we were looking for and later told us to go miles away to other bartells or shop online. I called the manager over and he gave me a sad story about how much theft they have because there are five middle and high schools in the area. I asked him why they didn't call the police and he said they won't write up a report anyway. Well isn't that just too bad? You are just giving up and not even informing the parents when these kids shoplift. That is the end of it for me too I will never set foot in that store again. read more

They are the worst pharmacy around. I used to love the one on Central in Kirkland, kind and caring pharmacist, good service. The one next to Met Mkt is the pits. Went to pick up a prescription my doc called in the week before. Was told it was not ready and to talk to pharmacist. He then told me that they never fill colonoscopy cleanse prescriptions when they come in because I may not pick it up and it's too much work to put the box back on the shelf. So I asked for it to be filled/ordered and he replied, yes I'll order it but we are very busy on Fridays so not sure when they would actually be able to get to unpacking it when it hopefully arrives on Monday. I told him my procedure was Tuesday and he dismissively told me they "might" be able to let me know if it even arrives with the order at 4pm. Wow! Switching to Costco. And btw, they texted me AFTER my colonoscopy on Tuesday to let me know my prescription was ready. I used to love supporting them with my local chocolates and drug store needs but never again. read more

The Kirkland Bartell Drugs location is located next to Metropolitan Market so it is very convenient. Plus parking has been a breeze the many times I have visited MM next door. I had a couple items to get at Bartell that I was going to get at the location near my house, but I decided to give this one a try. Having visited this location, I definitely prefer the Crossorads one. The problem is with the store design. It could definitely use a redesign or at least a renovation. A bit on the older side When it comes to Bartell, I come here for two things primarily. Food and drugstore items. Whatever is on sale really. While the drugstore aisles are easy to spot here, the food special items are sprinkled around the store. There is a specials section, but I couldn't find what I was looking for easily. I would have preferred that they have a devoted aisle where all the food products can be found. It was hard to find what I was looking for. Despite my product finding troubles here, I find Bartell Drugs to a be great drugstore chain. Though it is kind of irritating that the store layout is not the same at every location. read more

I walked up to the pharmacy and asked if they carry home Covid tests. The reply was rude. Yes, they do but they're busy so I should get them at the front store register. The pharmacist might have mentioned that medical insurance including Medicare covers the cost, but not at the front register. Complete disregard for my cost. I really like the store and it's selection of useful products and bargains. The pharmacy has been a complete disappointment- out of stock for my medication several times now. No notifications or attempt to get supply from related pharmacies. Terrible customer service with no attempt or initiative to help me. I called a competing pharmacy that immediately gave me an emergency stock and ordered additional supply, notified me promptly when available and treated me like a valued customer. read more

This pharmacy is the most convenient for us even though it's not in-network so we use it when we need something quickly. Today I stopped in to fill a prescription that was called in; I walked up to the counter and said, "I'm here to pick up a prescription" and the pharmacist literally looked at me and shrugged. I repeated and this time added my last name and with this he turned around and dug through the filled orders and said it wasn't there. This prompted someone else to start helping me and they said it wouldn't be ready for about 20 minutes (they weren't busy and there were 3 of them behind the counter). I wasn't thrilled but then figured I could've called before hand to avoid this and giving them the benefit of the doubt that they were busy earlier in the morning. I wasn't excited by the rude response I received when I first asked though and that was definitely something I'd remember if I chose to shop here again. So 40 minutes later I head back to pick up the prescription; I walk back and repeat that I'm ready to pick up a prescription, given my last name and say I was there earlier and was told it should be ready. The woman proceeds to have me click through their checkout pad for the bill and consents (I decline pharmacist information or I've been given it) - the only problem is, at this point *I have not spoken to a pharmacist nor have I been told anything about the medication* ! Hoping they'd rectify that, I click that I spoke to a pharmacist (since I wasn't wanting to decline and those were the only two options). I was then told a technician was mixing my prescription and it would be available shortly - what? I was told over 40 minutes ago it would be ready in 20 so why was it only now being mixed? Ok, so I wait another few minutes and the technician brings it over and asks if I have any questions for the pharmacist - I say yes, I'd like to know the dosage, things to avoid, etc. and he says, "it's all on the label" and very quickly, as if I'd bothered him, rattles off the dosage info and walks away. Problems with my 2 visits -- 1) I don't care what sort of day you're having, it's never ok to be rude to a customer. If approached with a request you should not look and shrug. 2) I really can't understand why the prescription wasn't ready on my first visit. I suppose if the pharmacist hadn't been rude to start, I may have let this one slide 3) Don't ask me to agree the pharmacist told me about the medicine or decline such information *before* even giving me the medicine or offering me a chance to speak to said pharmacist (and I'm pretty sure this violates WAC 246-869-220 or something similar) 4) If you say you'll have a drug ready in 20 minutes, have it ready; 45 minutes is not 20. 5) If I say yes, I have questions for the pharmacist and you aren't the pharmacist, you should probably get one rather than rolling your eyes and saying it's all on the label as if you're too busy to bother helping me Needless to say, I'll take my business elsewhere and am going to avoid Bartell. read more

I really like walking around this store after shopping next door at Metropolitan Market. The staff are always nice, helpful and personable. The pharmacist there is kind, however I felt like I was always uncomfortable talking to the guy that filled prescriptions and he was not communicative. Usually I wait at the store and come back within a few minutes and it's filled. The last time I went, he said it might take a while and I said I could just walk around the store. The store was quiet and I heard them joking around and laughing a ton back there and after 25 minutes, I go and ask about my prescription. The guy said it was ready. I asked if they were supposed to page me since I had been waiting a while and he said yes but the person that left for break must have forgotten. I'm all for people having fun at their jobs with colleagues but it shouldn't get in the way of doing your actual job. I switched to a different pharmacy after that. read more

Wish I could give zero stars! I called 4 times today and every time said I was transferred to the pharmacy and the line was just empty. Found the number for the pharmacy directly and the same thing happened. Finally someone answered and complained that he couldn't hear me. I was calling to see if a prescription was ready and he said no. I attempted to fill blood pressure medication last week and they didn't have it ready because of a "national shortage" so they gave me a weeks supply and said they'd have it ready Friday. Well sure enough, it's not ready. When I just called I was told they still don't have it and it's my responsibility to call other pharmacies to track it down. I'm PISSED. What horrible customer service! It's BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION!!! It's not like it's ok to go a day without it. And now IM supposed to call around for it?!?! NO WAY. We live close to this store so we keep trying to use this pharmacy but we hit problems every time. They usually never have the medicine we need, then you have to wait for the shipment, then they take VERY long to fill the script so you're lucky if you get your meds in 3 days. Maybe we are all just tired on Sunday evening at 6pm, but I went first to this Bartell's and then the next closest one (I'm not sure which is which; first the one by the Red Apple, then the one by Metropolitan Market) looking for one specific product - Maybelline the Nudes 12-shadow eye palette... In both stores, I ask the question, very specifically, not speaking for longer than 15 seconds, saying I'm looking for this product. In both stores, the cashier/customer service rep/manager (I don't even know) looks at me, maybe confused, maybe frustrated... honestly probably just being lazy... but they were SO SURE that WE DON'T HAVE THAT PRODUCT. Come on. Seriously? I just read the ad this morning in the Sunday paper, it was advertised it would be there... maybe it is hard to take 5 minutes to actually look in the back because I know probably it is in high demand, but I guess it really is just too much trouble. I've worked in customer service too for 10 years, in retail/restaurant... and I know how hard it is to feel stressed out and not want to help because your shift is almost over. But really. I love Bartell's, but not today, and specifically not at these 2 stores in the Redmond/Kirkland area. read more

This is a review for the excellent service I received from the lady who took my passport photo. She was helping customers out at the check-out when I came in for my passport pictures. For some reasons, she was the only one there could take photos, so she approached me with a smile and quickly explained what she was gonna do. She said she always took photos twice so customers can have second look and chose whichever they liked best. I thought that was a fantastic idea. And she did what she did. The second picture was the better one. She gave me all and charged for only one. She also happily chatted about my coming trips and hers. I just really appreciated someone who is nice and quick at what he/she is doing and this lady delivered it all terrifically. Hooray to this Bartel Drugs. read more

The employees here don't know the courtesy to the customers. They barely smile. On one Sunday I asked to exchange some quarters and the lady at the cashier told me that I have to go Thru the store meaning we will help you only if you buy something. Well, It's a Sunday morning and no banks are open and obviously I am choosing my local grocery store shop regularly from as my second choice but the answer is you have to buy something to get coins. I lost my wallet there yesterday and Juan, Fred and Doris helped make sure it got back to me. They were kind, helpful and the best I could have hoped for in that kind of situation. This pharmacy is so convenient for me as it it just down the street. But for some reason, Bartell Drugs seem to hire rude people in the pharmacy. I had a bad experience in a different Bartell Drugs that made me stop using their pharmacy services for around 5 years. And just now I called into ask if I could email in a prescription for an appetite stimulant that my dog's veterinarian emailed me so I didn't have to go in twice. The guy that answered was so incredibly rude and just said, "no" in a mean tone. So I explained my printer was working, but could I come in and show them the email. And again, he just said "no." His tone was so aggressive, that it just put me off. I called another pharmacy (not Bartell Drugs), and asked the same questions, and they politely explained to me that the veterinarian would have to call the prescription directly to them or I would have to have the original signed prescription to give them. I honestly had no idea, since it is just an appetite stimulant for my dog, but I was appreciative that they were polite and didn't just bite my head off when I asked what was apparently a stupid question. So I asked the vet's office to call in the prescription to this other pharmacy. I am willing to drive out of my way if they treat customers better. Back to avoiding the most conveniently located pharmacy to me. read more

I never write a bad review based on one experience at a store, bar restaurant or any establishment. It takes multiple bad experiences for me to jump on here and warn people about the interactions I have with the people that work at these places. Gary a pharmacy tech has been absolutely horrible to people. I could go into greater detail but will only share one of my experiences. I suffer from horrible depression and anxiety. Going out is difficult for me and I and have been practically yelled at by this man for putting my debit card in when my insurance covered the entire cost. CAUTION: If you are picking up a medication that is a controlled substance you better know all the rules before you step up to the counter, the date you last picked it up, along with several other things because if you don't they will make you feel like a drug seeker. I am self conscious enough about the medications I take, I don't need a rude pharmacy tech to make me feel worse. If Gary is working you are best to wait for the other tech's to help you. That is if they can find your prescription. I have since had all my prescriptions changed as I see the same complaints about the same guy for years. The location and parking are convenient. I haven't used the pharmacy nor have I purchased anything in this Bartels. I was at Metropolitan Market and had a return I was going to take to Bartels later on; I didn't realize there was one next door and was planning on going to a different one. I was in there today and an old manager and his older assistant must have thought I was shop lifting. They followed me like a hawk and when I put some items back he asked me why? It was very strange an I did not like the feeling I got there at all! When I checked out the older lady was so rude to me! This review is for the pharmacy section of the store. I just moved to Kirkland from Seattle and was switching pharmacies. I was told that Bartells would contact my old pharmacy to retrieve my prescriptions when I needed a refill. When I contacted this pharmacy to obtain two of my medicines that had ran out, I gave them the Fred Meyer's phone number so they could call them and have the prescription faxed over. I was told the medicines would be ready by the next day. No problem! When I got the automated voice message 2 days later that my meds were ready, I hopped on over to the pharmacy. However it turns out only one of my meds was there and they never recieved the 2nd prescription. They didn't call to tell me this. As I tried to figure this out, one of the pharmacy techs said I probably didn't have any refills, which was odd since I knew I did. I gave her my doctor's number and the drug info so she could call the MD's office and I left. I called the next day as I hadn't heard anything. The pharmacy tech said that when they called Walgreens I didn't have any refills and they had contacted my doctor's office, who said I had enough refills and I shouldn't need another yet. I was a little frustrated and gave them the right pharmacy's phone number again and said that I needed this fixed asap since I had now been out of medication for 4 days. There were several problems: 1. they called the wrong pharmacy despite specifically telling them which pharmacy AND given them the number, 2. no one had called to tell me anything so that I could correct them, they just called the wrong pharmacy, contacted the doctor's office and stopped working on it after they recieved no for an answer, meanwhile I have now been out of the medication for 4 days, 3. When I called the pharmacy tech to have her call Fred Meyer's again, she seemed irritated and instead of apologizing she made it seem like I was the one who had messed up. They had called the right pharmacy in the beginning as I recieved one of my meds and I don't know how the information got confused along the way. But instead of putting a rush on it or asking if I needed a couple of pills to get me through the wait, she acted impatient. It is now day 5 and I still haven't heard anything. I am a nurse practitioner and I understand how much pressure is on pharmacists and pharmacy techs, however I shouldn't have to babysit this pharmacy until their job is done correctly. Not only have I lost trust in this department, I feel that this is unacceptable, unsafe, and the patients at Bartells pharmacy deserve better. read more

I had to return a months old ear thermometer that never worked right. I hoped to exchange it for a forehead thermometer, but the store was repeatedly out. I hesitantly asked for a refund to my card with no receipt and no idea how long I owned this thing. I started offering a long explanation, but the manager just grabbed one off the rack and returned the full price to my card. He wished me luck trying to find a more reliable thermometer on Amazon.
