I thought I reviewed this before...it's a high-end, better than average health club, "sports…read moreschool" in Jordaan, (Centrum) Amsterdam. It is in the belly of the beast indeed. I think it's more for people who can walk here. Downsides: Geen (no) towel service. - Locker room is stuff, no air and damp...greatly lacking in amenities. One little, nasty sink where people fill their water. The place needs some air! - Minimal bike parking. - the lockers have locks, but you need a 2-euro coin to get this bulky, non sanitary key chain to hang around your wrist? Really? Upsides; Facility is big. Has a sauna, steam room (co-ed) and the staff is nice. Nice eGym (extra cost) Music is not too loud. A great gym...wish it was a little cheaper and they had a better locker room.

I have read a 'sporty' blogger which says the following 'they have gym equipment which belongs to the 'ferrari' group :) this says enough that they really have a high end equipment. Furthermore you can get a TechnoGym key to measure all your gym activities and download all these information all from the Cloud! It is really very clean and they have a glass ceiling which make the gym very open. They have great music playing through their Bose boxes, so my iPhone was this time not needed even! Next to this they have 5 different sauna's. I have tried the infrared sauna, which I have never tried it in my life.... it was a good experience though! :) They have electric lockers - so no coins or keys needed! Only thing is that they have a number on your lockers, so you need to memorize where you have put your stuff. Also they have great showers, a big drench shower to relax after the gym & sauna! Minus point is in my opinion of course the prices to be member of this luxury gym. You need to pay around 80 euro's per month, but you will get all these luxury in return. Another thing is that they do not have that many group classes. ps. they even serve SLA food for dinner and have great protein shakes!

Gym memberships running up to 100+ Euro are madness to me. This price point is precisely, of course, the gym's weakness. The men's locker room lacks ventilation to such a degree that I often find it impossible to breath the first minutes after I arrive. I try to get in and out of the locker room as quickly as possible. Shower at home. The gym area itself is spacious and I can't think of any piece of equipment that I would want them to add. Also the equipment is in good condition. There are a few distinct area's. Running mills looking out over the Amsterdam Ringroad (the building bridges the Ringroad A10), free weights, stationary bikes area and resistance machines area. For the price I think the actual gym area is good value. Fortunately I have the luxury of going at any time of the day so over the course of three years I have found my 'sweet spot' when it's not too early for me and the first rush hour of the gym has already finished so it's not at all busy and I have an hour to do my stuff before the next rush starts. The members range from 'just out of prison' to students, from young to old, fat to thin and super fit. It's also a cross section of the population of the surrounding neighbourhood(s). If they would manage to get the locker room situation solved, I would give this gym a much higher rating.
6 'spinning' bikes. Also 6 regular stationary bikes and elliptical cross trainers available in addition to the running mills.
View from the running mills. Watching the traffic pass underneath the building.
The obligatory pic of the dumbbells. Only two or three times a day you'll find them sorted.

You go there to get RIPPED.. or fit. Basic Fit gyms are without bells and whistles! You can pay the least by paying for the whole year upfront, or pay a tad more and do it monthly (automatic payments) with a one year contract, or pay even a bit more than that to pay monthly without a contract, at all. These are the only three options you have the rest is all-in. They even allow you to lend your card to someone else! As long as you're not working out together at the same time. One card per person at a time. You can, however, invite someone to workout at any Basic Fit for a week at no charge to either of you as an introduction. I don't live anywhere near this particular gym but I go here now and again anyway because, a) I can, and b) my workout buddy goes here. About the equipment: I'm pretty noobish at weightlifting as I've always found it boring (but I'm trying to change that perspective). I'm more of an adventure/violent sport kind of guy. What I do know is that they pretty much have all the equipment you need for a serious get-ripped workout and that's the most important thing about this particular Basic Fit. They also have a lot of cardio machines pointed towards some big screens. Most weights are labeled with both lbs and kg. It has separate sex changing rooms and showers, it has toilets, and it has lockers at the entrance that you can use with your own padlock. That's it. So BASICally all you need to get your workout and to get FIT. Basic Fit!
