It might be unfair to judge or rate an establishment on a single experience consisting of one entree to go. I placed a takeout order of Chicken Pad Thai at the counter which took less than 5 minutes to Receive. For those who enjoy the flavor profile of Thai Cuisine it's fairly easy to recognize the uniqueness which constitutes authentic Thai food. Unfortunately in spite of this restaurant being clean in appearance and decor I'm grateful to have only ordered this one dish. It's said you can only make a first impression once which is enough for me. When a venue decides to promote and list an establishment as something it's not that creates disappointment to one's expectations. This variation was more like a pseudo Chicken Chow Mein which had little flavor or taste. Not at all what I was expecting so it makes it a mute point to return here. read more

I'm glad I finally got to try this gem right here in my neighborhood. What drove me to dine here was the new outdoor seating they have. I've had Thai food in 5 star places in manhattan and Brooklyn, and the food here at Basil Leaf was just as, IF NOT better than what I've had. Best part is that it's right here in Baldwin!. The calamari was crispy and soft to the bite. The spring rolls were very filling and tasty, however, the Pad Thai was the star. The flavor was unbelievable. The texture was fresh and just right, the portion was generous and the price was great I'm so glad there is a very good Thai place here in Nassau county. Ive been waiting for a very long time to try this place- I was very excited that a Thai restaurant was opening in Baldwin. The spicy seafood soup was 4 star. My husband had a Guinness beer and I had a mai tai. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the entrees because as the other reviews had mentioned this food is less Thai and more Chinese. We ordered the Ginger chicken which was like a Chinese dish from a take out place And we ordered some pan fried noodles but nothing seemed exceptionally fresh or prepared with the required seasonings and spices often expected with Thai food. It's too bad that they haven't focused on bringing the neighborhood an authentic restaurant and maybe think that we don't know the difference. Although I may return I'm not looking forward to it. I'm from California where we have a good amount of Asian food options but I have struggled to find solid food that is reasonably priced and Basil Leaf hit all the boxes. We ordered the mini spring rolls, beef pad see ew, pineapple coconut chicken fried rice and chicken pad Thai. Every dish had great flavor and the portions where big enough for a party of 3 to share. I will comment on their lunch and to go process. They opened yesterday. Went in to place an order as i don't know all Thai dishes so i needed help. The restaurant decor is nice and modern. I was greeted straight away. I came around 1pm. The lady was very helpful. I chose 3 meals. 2 was from the lunch menu 1 was regular. The food was prompt i did not have to wait too long long. Very Tasty indeed. I like how they have spice indicators by certain items. I ordered a green curry, house fried rice and pan Asian broccoli chicken. All were tasty. The house rice has decent amounts of shrimp. Portion sizes are good. It's nice to have an additional cuisine in this part of Baldwin. Everyone should give it a try. This is a very cute restaurant. Nice booths. The wait service was excellent. The food came very quickly! I ordered teriyaki chicken and rice. It looked steamy hot, nice and fresh, but was a bit too spicy for me. My husband ordered the lemongrass curry shrimp and he said it was good, but not spicy enough. So, my advice to anyone who eats here is, let your sever know how you like your Thai food, either mild or super spicy. I plan on trying this place again. read more

We tried here for the first time a couple Saturdays ago. We ordered on the app ahead of time. When we got there our dinner wasnt ready yet, so they gave us a free drink. I got the pad thai with shrimp. Very good. Still not the best Ive ever had, but it had a nice flavor. We also got the half roast duck with pineapple rice. Delicious. I drive past this restaurant almost daily and was excited to finally see they opened. Well...I must say I am disappointed and underwhelmed. I'm sorry for giving 2 stars, but as another reviewer commented, this is a Chinese restaurant attempting to be Thai. I've been to Thailand twice and I've taken a few cooking classes over there, so one could say I have a firm grasp on how Thai food should taste. I ordered a dish called Mee Ga-Ti which is supposed to be creamy, spicy coconut flavored noodles. Right away after the first bite, I said to my friend "this is Chinese food". There was the slightest hint of coconut, a few basil leaves and no spice whatsoever. I actually had to ask for chili sauce just to make it somewhat palatable. The waitress never even asked how we liked the food, but I could sense that she knew we were disappointed. My friend ordered the classic Pad Thai that we are very familiar with and know that it should have a sweet and sour tamarind flavored sauce. I had a few bites to see how it was and all I could taste was soy sauce. Also, they used the wrong noodles (glass noodles) and not the typical rice noodles for the dish. They graciously gave promotional Grand Opening discount of 15%, but I think they will soon discover that they are overpriced. Side note: I discovered their entire "About Us" section of their website was stolen from a restaurant called BKNY in Queens. (Not cool...) This was my first time here and definitely will not be my last. I usually travel to Queens for great Thai food, but their food has now change my commute!! We had the spring rolls, coconut rice with the chicken teriyaki, and the spicy chicken with sesame seeds. I regretfully didn't take any pictures due to my hunger, but I will next time. The staff is friendly and wear masks, every table is provided with hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes. You have the option to dine in or out, or do take out with them but not through a third party. Beware! Very rude service!!! My husband asked for a new glass of water because there was a weird after-taste from what was given him. The waitress said "no it's all the same " and at first refused to give him water but I said that it could be the glass...Then she made a face and shook head then reluctantly gave water.... Something so simple -why do you need to doubt what the customer complained and request for?! Then next I requested for the thai spices--- thai fish sauce with chilli and chilli powder... when the waitress placed the spices on the table she rudely said that "we normally don't give this to customers "... My first time ordering today. This is in my neighborhood, so I was really hoping that the food would be good...it was great! We had the lemon grass pork chops--well seasoned, not salty and a good portion. We also had the mango chicken and the Pad See Ew. The noodles were the perfect texture and the mango chicken was sooo good! So glad they're open during this long quarantine. After trying a bunch of Thai places around Merrick, Rockville Centre and other nearby towns (and being fairly disappointed), we decided to give this place a try. Basil Leaf Grill did not disappoint!! We ordered curry samosas, gang panang chicken, drunken noodles, pineapple coconut fried rice with chicken and fried bananas for dessert. So i got a vegetable curry platter and rice from this place. The flavors were very nice but it was like 75% coconut milk. Not worth $12 in my opinion. Personally would stay home & make my own curry with 10x more veggies. Still, a healthier option when eating out. I recommend this place for vegans :-) they have options. read more
