I can almost not imagine a more hostile and absurd customer service experience. I got a pair of crocs for Xmas, wrong size, purchased at Bass Pro/Cabela's. I went to Bass Pro to exchange for a different size. Apparently that specific location is somewhat more Bass Pro than Cabela's (systems not updated after the acquisition) and could not do the exchange without the original printed receipt (I have the card my partner used but they couldn't look it up in the Bass Pro system and refused to do the exchange for size). This is inconvenient but not that bad considering standards of corporate greed, but the attitude and dismissive derision I received for wanting the correct size was kind of nuts. I will not be going back. read more

This store is the best, I have so much fun here, I get all my fishing supplies and also fishing advice from the incredible staff and also all my camping gear, I've been camping for over 47 years and this place has everything you need and more. In fact it's like a free museum because the taxidermy of every single possible animal and bird you could see in this province is available for you so it's like a learning experience for the kids.... Plus a massive two-story tall giant wall of fish tank with real live Alberta fish swimming around -it's quite a learning experience. And best of all the staff are incredible especially the lady greeter who works at the front door and admires everybody admiring her store. I'll see if I can find some photos. They have a very large and wide range of options in all and they do have a very large floor space across the two storeys. The staff was good and friendly. Unless you are big into hunting and fishing or wearing camo like it is a uniform this is not the place for you. They have a REALLY POOR camping section. We got a gift card for our wedding shower for this place b/c my Aunt heard we REALLY wanted Coleman Director Deck chairs. The carry VERY little Coleman items. The didn't have the deck chairs I settled on a Coleman stove table but that didn't even come close to using up the gift card. I got the gift card July 2013 FINALLY used it up today with a can of dog spray. I walked past the camo clothing today. They had camo lingerie! Silly me going to Victoria Secret and such. They sell baby clothes in camo which is heart break waiting to happen. 911 what is your emergency? Our baby girl Ellie May is missing. She is only 18 months and we can't find her. HELP?! As a theme park based on the mass murder of adorable forest critters, this place is awesome! It's unlike any retail store I've ever seen. Outdoorsman, hunter/"sportsman" themed absolutely everything, and no less than 10,000 skulls with antlers, 15 thousand taxidermy-d everythings. Full on outdoor scenes created with dead animals, and there's even a carnival style shooting range. Not real guns, don't get too excited. it's that light beam target practice. Still plenty fun though. There's a full indoor fish pond complete with a waterfall. Taking the glass elevator down from the second floor, it actually looks like it's submarining into the fish tank. It's pretty great! As a store, the mass amount of inventory is completely remarkable. They're an entire circus carnival of shopping. Head over to the general store for old fashioned fudge... Take your pick of the 15,000 different types of fishing rods in the fishing section. Get awkwardly aroused by the immensely huge line of hunting rifles. Get yourself some hillbilly styled camoflauge print ANYTHING to go with it. They even have fancy Mason Jars with wine glass stems and ceramic Red Solo Cups for when you need to do yourself some of that them there fancy drinkin'. So, it's pretty clear that the 'BURTA redneck in me loves all the 'MURICA they've managed to pack into one store... Why only three stars? Well, unless you need to buy a BBQ, a fly reel, a backpack and a 4x4 quad and probably a set of those Pickup truck testicles all in one trip, I think there are better stores that do each of these elements better and cheaper. For the backpacking style camping gear, I've had better luck with the prices at MEC and the products at Out There. For inexpensive car camping junk you can get the same things at Canadian Tire for 20% or so less. If you want to get motoring, I can't vouch for the service of this department, but if there anything like the *staff in the rest of the store, I think you'd probably have better luck at a place like Bow Cycle... *After the guy at the front wandered off while talking to another employee without so much as an "I'll be right with you" nod, I decided to try find my way to what I was looking for on my own. Not having any luck I searched for some more staff. No dice. Finally, I found a clump of four of them hanging out in the back of the camping section. I asked a question and was told "it's over there." Couldn't find it... Asked another question "Oh I don't think we have that but it could be over there." Tried again and they were gone. You're welcome, Bass Pro. Either I got your employees to get back to work or got them to loiter somewhere else. My guess is the second since the only one I saw again was busy talking on his cell phone. While the theme park stuff is seriously well done, when it comes to shopping, I'd rather go to a place that's got either excellent customer service or competitive prices. Being the HUGE anti-hunting/fishing advocate that I am, you can imagine my horror when I accidentally stumbled upon Bass Pro Shop. I know what you're thinking "This place is HUGE, how could you accidentally stumble upon it?" Well I was with a friend, and being as busy as we were chatting up a storm, I didn't realize I had stepped foot into this mammoth of a shop. Although I don't agree with anything in this store and although you wouldn't catch me here EVER again, I can appreciate the incredible selection they have in all camping, hunting and fishing goods. This store is my worst nightmare, but I can't argue the fact that there are people in our city that do go fishing and hunting, and for these people, this store is perfect. read more

I wish I was a boy, or at least someone who REALLY enjoys the outdoors. This place is so freaking cool! I am not a hunter, nor do I actually enjoy the outdoors, but damn this place makes me happy. It is like a sensory over load. lots of stuff to look at, many taxidermy animals, much WOW. I have only ever bought myself a camo shirt (in my Duck Dynasty phase) and I can say its good quality for a decent price. But I know every guy in my family has bought something from here. No one has ever complained about anything, and people COME in to town just to visit the Bass Pro. In fact family time consists of all of us going to the Bass Pro. Ride the elevator, trust me you won't be disappointed. You get to see all the fish. I am a simple person really. You can play the shooting games and I think you can take your boating exam here too so it really is a one stop shop. read more

This place is one of the most amazing and well designed stores in the city! So much to look at and so many details to their attractions / displays. 5 star for the interior design and floor planning! Kids love going here to look at all the cool stuff... As a result I always leave with some sort of purchase. Plus they have an area tucked to the side where you can sit and enjoy some fudge, ice cream, hot dogs, etc. for a good price. Overall, the items in the store can be pricey but I guess it goes with the territory when they invested so much into the shopping experience. They have things here that you can't find at other places. Side note: I know it's not christmas, but if you have kids, you definitely need to take them here in December and take advantage of the Christmas kids area with games and activities...and a free photo with Santa Clause. read more

I grew up in a small town and love the outdoors, camping and fishing. This place is fantastic! When you walk in, it is set up like a hunting lodge with a huge fireplace and inviting couches. I just wanted to hide out there for my first visit. You could literally spend hours in this place just wandering around looking at everything. It is two floors of AWESOME! There is taxidermy everywhere! From racks of antlers to deer, to a polar bear. They even have a tank full of sturgeon and a waterfall. They have ATV's, boats, rifles, bows, tents, home decor, etc, etc, etc. Anything you can possibly think of that has to do with the outdoor living lifestyle, they probably have it. We try to make a point of stopping here when we are going home to Edmonton. They have one of the best selections of hot sauces and preserves if you go to the east side of the lower level. Old fashioned candy, warm nuts, popcorn and ice cream. Great gift items for someone that has a cabin or summer cottage, right down to bedding and paper towel holders. It is certainly worth the stop when you are on a road trip to Edmonton! read more

My Favorite hunting store I prefer Bass pro more then Cabelas. Its more organized more camo and stuff but Cabelas Just has more guns only. I like bass pro more its better and kinda cheaper! I really wanted to like the place but to be honest its an Outdoor style Wal-Mart kind of place. (Nowt wrong with W-Mart but you know what I mean?) Ok its huge, got all the stuffed animals and themes going on, but its just a little tacky and second time round its wearing a little thin. It seems to stock a little bit of everything, prices are ok, but some of the staff have not got a clue what they are doing in certain sections mainly the Hunting (Guns) section. That coupled with the near non-existent supply of bulk shotgun shells it really isnt worth the trek if thats what your after! On a plus side they have a good selection of motorised vehicles mainly Boats and Dirt related, a really good fishing section, good priced kayak's, clothing is ok but not great and they have a lot of own branding gear which is mediocre, on the whole there is better stores closer to town with better gear. Bass Pro is one of my favourite spots to shop and visit. Sometimes I just take my son into the store for a walk/browse because there is so much to look at. When I explain Bass Pro to someone who has never been: It's pretty much the Wal-mart of all things outdoors. If you love to be outdoors & do things outdoors -- chances are that Bass Pro will have what you're looking for! Another fun perk is the Bass Pro sandwich bar which is never as busy and hectic as the CrossIron Mills food court. The price is fair and the food is fresh. At Christmas, the Santa's Workshop was really neat with lots of free and inexpensive activities for kids to do. I thought it was pretty cool. read more

Went to take a look at a rifle to do research while I was waiting for my PAL so I can decide what to buy. I went up to the counter to ask to take a look at one and first thing he asked is "do you have your PAL?" I started to say "No but..." trying to explain what I wanted and right away he said "You can look at it from there on the rack!" in this a-hole tone without even giving me half a chance to talk and he walked away. I had my 8 year old daughter standing beside me witnessing this and she asked me why he treated us like that. I will never buy ANYTHING from Bass Pro ever again in my life time and I will make sure none of my children ever buy anything from there in the years to come. This has been my second negative experience at this store, the other being when I bought a tent that leaked and soaked all our camping gear and when we went to return within 7 days they refused to give us money back and told us we had to buy a tent that was twice as much which we could not afford at the time. read more

MINDBLOWINGLY ignorant, rude, or non-existent people work at this place!!!!! Bring the kids to see the impressive taxidermy displays, but thats IT dont buy anything here!!! Mind you, thats IF you can buy something there. I went to the gun counter and after a 10 minute wait / search got an employee to talk to. I asked for a specific type of ammunition, and he wasnt sure what I was talking about so he just (under his breath!!) said "nope nuthin like that", then immidiately did an about face, walked away, and began to text someone on his phone hahah!! I mean this little runt did NOT say "gees sorry we dont have that" or " what rifle is it for, maybe we can find something that will work" etc etc or ANYTHING remotely resembling customer service. I understand that not everyone will know every single thing every single time thats fine. But this level of ignorance and contempt was of a level I've only experienced 2 or 3 times in my WHOLE LIFE!! SO I decided to voice my dissatisfaction with a manager if I could find one. I'm not vindictive, so I didn't complain about the specific loser at the gun counter, I just kept the comment to the manager of a general nature (I figure even that idiot needs his $8.75 an hour, maybe a bad day etc etc, simple benefit of the doubt right??). ANYWAY, the manager I was speaking to, ), was equally rude and abrupt to me. I recited the "customer is always right" phrase to her and this caused her to pause for a moment --- but then an immediate continuance of arguing, disrespect, and ignorance ensued. FYI I dont know her name because Im a stalker or disgruntled ex-employee (hahahah!) its because at the end of our "conversation" she wrote her name on a piece of paper, gave it to me, and encouraged me to call "head office" ... if I dare, that is, because head office will of course back her up and insult me as well??? Got a gun as a birthday present yesterday from family. The person at the firearms counter told the person buying it that I could swap it for the higher end package if I wanted to. So today I go in and bring it to the counter. I was told they cannot do exchanged due to original box not being there and they refused to look up the receipt for the gun even after giving them the exact date and time of the purchase and had the credit card and person there that purchased the gun. None of this information was given to us at the time of purchase and they do not trust the return policy on the site as it for "USA customers only" as said by the manager on duty that I spoke to today. The customer service was absolutely terrible starting from the badly trained staff to a rude manager on duty who would do nothing to help. NEVER BUYING HERE AGAIN! read more

This place is redneck heaven! There been a couple of reviews that have ripped on this place but I love it. I think the prices are not that bad and the selection is plentiful. It seems like the childrens toys are cheap and I tend to keep my kids away from that area. But I do like the camping/barbecue area. I bought an iron pot for 34.99 and its great. They have some great barbecue smokers that seem good on prices. I've experienced good customer service...well friendly anyways. When I went into the fly fishing area and asked some questions the guy behind the counter just didnt know nothing about that area. But then again he said he was just filling in untill they could find a regular fly fish guy. Overall I think this store is awesome! I keep coming here even if not to buy anything. If you think the prices are overblown and the customer service is horrible at least come in and check out the best outdoor scenery indoors. read more

Was told today by a customer service girl and her manager that I couldn't buy my wife's annual birthday present of a fishing license because she wasn't present to sign it. I only gave it one star because this site makes you put something. I have also had extremely poor dealings with this store, it is an huge disappointment. Prior to the Cabelas opening in Edmonton, I would drive down to Calgary to pick up gear on sale. I would call the store to ensure that they had in stock what I was looking for, and always told that what I wanted was there. Well it is my fault for believing them. They are constantly out of stock on items, even ones in their fliers on the first day of the sale when the doors open. I understand that they surely underpay their staff, but please find some that have a clue about what they are selling. Several times staff has tried to sell me the wrong ammunition. I am not into the stuffed animal zoo or the fish pond, its a great ahh factor for kids and people who just want to check out the store and pick up some candy. This place is not for hunters and fishermen who want good gear, good prices, and good service. I have also complained to the store manager, but have never had any response. I was hoping that this place would sort out Wholesale Sports, but with the way Bass Pro is run it makes WS look good. We've purchased great items here for our cabin and boat with very good results with quality. However we recently purchased a Model B canoe/ kayak cover for our 16' canoe with bad results. The canoe / kayak cover only covered less than 14' so brought it back to the store for a refund which they happily gave me. I even took a picture of it which I let them keep and told them to mark their 16' covers as 13' not 16'. We still needed a 16' cover so asked them to bring in one from down east which was going to take 2 weeks which was fine. When I didn't get a call after 4 weeks I called and they had NO record of the order! I have been calling since yesterday and today being passed on to different people. Today I asked if they had the C cover for an 18' canoe which is marked on the box. They did not have it at any store in Canada but I could get it on Amazon. I asked them to order it from Amazon and was told they'd look into it. I really hope to hear from the store tomorrow with positive results. Went to airdrie bass pro last october TO BUY a excaliber cross bow. Spoke to a younger guy in early twenties and explained to him that I knew nothing about xbows and pri=oceeded to ask him questions.After about ten minutes and another question, this poor fellow turnned beet red and point blank asked me "Why are you being so ignorant". Bought a new Tracker 17' 2 years ago at Cross Iron. Liked the boat once all the service problems ironed out but worst service I have ever encountered. On pickup service people had neglected to hook up the trim tab, I had bought a $1,700 Minn Kota trawling motor and they forgot to hook up the electrical. They never checked any guages with only one gauge working. Also issues with locks on the storage compartments. Service manager never returned calls and we had to wait months to get the boat from their service bay. Used the boat on a few occasions over the past 2 years and want to buy a bigger Tracker. As the former service manager no longer working there thought I'd give them one more try. Dealing on trading in our 17ft on a boat plus accessories close to $35,000. Former boat went in for a trade in assessment 5 days ago and was promised one day turn around on the assessment. Waited for 3 days and no call back. I called service manager,had to leave a message. Got a call back from someone later that day and was promised a call back from the service mgr and that boat assessment would be ready next day. Service mgr never called back that next day. I called him and was told boat was put on hold because of other boats that came in for warranty work. Again told I would have trade in assessment by this morning. Still no callback. This should have been no longer than a one hour work up for trade in. Same old disgusting service as 2 years ago. So going to cancel out on a $35,000 sale from Bass. They also lose out on a great trade in boat. I will never recommend anyone purchase a boat from Bass because of their terrible service. read more

I went into Bass on the 27 of Nov to buy my boyfriend a pair of hunting boots for xmas but they didn't have his size, so i got a rain cheque and said they would be hear in a week. Went back 7 days later and they still were'nt there. They kept telling me they would call me as soon as they were in. Well you guessed it never did get a call. Finally i called right after xmas and they were finally there, not in time for xmas but they were there. Got them home and one was ripped on the inside..UGH, almost looked they had been worn. So reordered them AGAIN, still waiting. The boots were 60.00 dollars off that's the only reason i'm still waiting, and the fact that's all he wanted for xmas. After shopping at Wholesale sports in Edmonton and the new Cabelas, I have really come to appreciate the Bass Pro Shop in Airdrie. The store is fantastic with a huge selection and really decent prices. I recently returned a product I bought there by mail and the store manager (Glen Puschner) treated me great and he helped me in every way possible. I can only hope that some day that a Bass Pro Shop will be built in Edmonton. It is over a three hour drive from my home just north of Edmonton to the Bass Pro Shop but I think it is time and money well spent. In September I made a purchase that went through twice.They have acknowledged there was a problem with the transaction being entered twice. I was told this would be fixed in 5 business days. Since that day I have sent emails, left phone messages with the customer service manager and spoken with other managers personally. Being told this would be rectified.
