A week later I called bathfitters to get on the schedule (after already paying a downpayment). The person who answered the phone at bathfitters was disrespectful and could not find the job unless the name of the salesman was given. Julian from Bath Fitter did an awesome job for us. We just moved into a house and he removed an old bathtub and installed a new and bigger one. He also replaced a lot of old tile that was around the tub. Julian worked non-stop for almost three days and kept us updated on the progress of the work at all times. Be careful, the sales person is less than truthful (lies) about installation process. We were told that they would tear out the old tile and replace it with greenboard before installing the new surround. Make sure you understand, and hold them to it. I talked to the boss about what we were promised, and his only response was "Yeah, we don't do that." Our main installer was great! Later he had another guy show up who was rude and only stayed for a few minutes at a time. read more

I want to start by saying that our new tub and accessories looks amazing. However, this praise does warrant some additional information regarding what you can expect with Bath Fitters. First off, the initial consultation was not with me, nor my wife. My inlaws were gracious enough to cover the costs of our bathroom remodel, and were subsequently the ones that were in discussion with the sales rep. With that said, I will fast forward to the day the sales rep showed up for our initial consultation. As the consumer, you are offered a myriad of designs and finishes to choose from. My wife has the eye for design, so I left it at her discretion. She chose everything she wanted ahead of time on the Bath Fitter website design page. So, that was out of the way before our visit with the rep. The rep arrives at our home, punctual and polite. So far so good. My inlaws are there, and we had a nice greeting. Now we move in to the sales pitch. Look, I own my own business, so I know a thing or two about the triggers people are waiting on. The two primary bullet points are 1) cost and 2) completion date. Knowing this, I do NOT need to hear about how old the company is, how it was founded, how big it is and so forth. Having a brochure that shows completed jobs in the past is more than sufficient. My time as a business owner is money, so get to the point. After a lengthy and boring introduction to the Bath Fitter business, we finalize the want/need list on our new tub. Everything looks good, she notes our wish list and then proceeds to the next step: measurements and pictures for reference. We own an old house. The tub is cast iron, and who knows how many modifications have been made over the 100 year existence of this place. The point is, if you have another individual coming in at a later date to install a brand new tub with nothing more to reference than a few small scale photos and your measurements, then you are in for some trouble. That is exactly what happened, but I'll get to that shortly. Ok. Measurements and the picture session are done. We adjourn to the living room for the grand finale: COST. I will preface this by stating that no more than 2 weeks prior to this visit from Bath Fitters, I had an estimate put together from a trusted LOCAL plumbing contractor. His cost to install a new tub? $2000, and this INCLUDES removing and replacing every single water pipe in our house. Every. Single. Pipe. Now, the cost of a Bath Fitters tub? Try $6000. I just finished 3 rooms in my basement. 3 rooms of wiring, drywall, framing, ceiling and carpet. The 3 rooms in my basement cost me HALF of what this tub is going to cost. Now, my inlaws have already made up their mind that this was happening. Later that day I texted my wife and we were both still in shock at what we heard. She tried to convince her parents not to move forward with this purchase, but it was too late. My inlaws are very committal. Our installation date is set. Moving forward to install day: The tech arrives on time (these guys are very punctual). Plus, you read that right: TECH (singular). My inlaws are at our house this day. Thank God, because of the SINGULAR TECH. The tech begins his removal of our old shower wall and begins to prepare the area for the new tub. As I mentioned earlier, we have an old house, with old pipes. The tech has to place all sorts of new PVC pipes on to our old pipes to get a fir for the water conduits. Luckily for him, my very handy father in law is there. There is no way on heaven, or on earth, that one tech can do a tub install. The tech had to be upstairs, as my FIL was downstairs trying to hold pipe where it needed to be. This was the first issue of installation: understaffing. the tech moves towards the new bath wall that surrounds the tub. Without putting a plastic sheet over our door, he begins to cut and sand and beat the piss out of our wall, trying to prep it for new adhesion. After 30 minutes of this, our entire main floor is covered in 100 year old dust. I leave, as I couldn't hardly breathe. The wall goes up fairly smoothly, after the beat down. Now is the time where those measurements and pictures that the salesperson gave to the tech really twist his pants in a knot. Nothing fits as it should. This guy basically sets up shop in our garage and spends countless hours trying to mold the new tub to get into the space that he thought he would have. I honestly don't know how this guy kept his wits about him. Finally, he makes headway, and the tub is installed. He caulks, cleans up and wipes everything down. The tech arrived at our house at 8 am (after traveling for 2 hours to get here), and leaves our place at 7:30 pm, still with a 2 hour drive ahead of him. I offered him a few beers, which he needed, but declined. The fact of the matter is, if my FIL was not here, there was no way that this tech could have completed the installation in the time frame that was promised to us.
