The Green Dragon Inn - I can only imagine how warm and comforting this would be when cold out!

The Green Dragon Inn is such a superior find! It's everything one would look for country quaint and…read more utterly comfortable rustic-ness. There is a restaurant and bar, with plenty of outdoor seating for people to enjoy when the weather is fine. By the amount of people that were here, we could tell that this is a very popular destination. There are two parts to the restaurant and bar. Both contain seating for dining and drinking, though breakfast was on the "bar" side. For dinner, we were seated in a beautiful curved and windowed dining area with plenty of sunshine and a beautiful view outdoors. Our service was attentive and friendly. For dinner, my husband had the sirloin steak. He said that it was delicious and tender. He really enjoyed the accompanying peppercorn sauce. I had the barbecued turkey. It had a tasty char on it, and it was very delicious with its umami and slightly sweet barbecue flavor. Potatoes, chips, and salads were sides. We were both full from our generous meals, but it's almost impossible to forgo a delicious dessert! I had spotted dick, which was warm, sweetly moist, and subtly spiced. My husband had sticky pudding with ice cream. Both desserts hit the spot! Breakfast is a combination of continental and menu items. We enjoyed our fresh ojs, coffees, and he his Full English while I relished avocado toast with poached eggs. Accommodations are behind the restaurant and pub. It's a two-story cozy building, with four rooms downstairs. We did not go upstairs, but there are rooms above, as well. Our room was very comfortable, with all the amenities that we would need. Our room, Midnight Court, has French doors that lead out into a patio with seating and a garden beyond. There is a farm store that sells coffees, teas, tasty treats, and a variety of unique gifts, souvenirs, as well as groceries. There is outdoor seating here, too. Parking is limited to overnighting guests, located between the restaurant and the accommodations. We could see additional parking located across the street for drop-ins. We felt very fortunate to find the Green Dragon Inn. It ticked off all of the boxes for these two American travelers looking for a quintessential inn stay.

We each selected from meat, fish and chicken dishes and they were all succulent and perfectly balanced. We ended the night and shared the lemon tart with lemon sorbet which had a lovely balance with the strawberry drizzle.

When we got back we ordered lunch and found a spot out in the garden to wait for out food. The pub itself is the perfect picture of a country pub and it has a beautiful garden with a nice stream running through it. It's a great place to sit and drink a pint. The menu is your typical British pub fare. Fairly cheap and standard. Our food arrived reasonably quickly and was what I expected for the price. The chips were obviously manufactured and frozen and then sausage sandwich was passable but not impressive. Fortunately I didn't pay much for all of it. The one highlight for me of this pub was their excellent selection of Samuel Smith's ales on draft and in bottles. I have always loved Samuel Smith's and this was the first place in the area that I'd found it available. All in all I was less than impressed. It is such a shame to waste such beautiful pub in a nice spot on such mediocre food and service. Perhaps if I'm out on a bike ride through Withington I'll stop by for a pint of Sam Smiths, but I don't think I'll be going back for a meal.

I'm a vegan, so my expectations for finding something tasty at a UK Pub didn't seem very high. Even in the US, I find pub menus about the most vegan-unfriendly. I didn't see anything on the menu to eat, so I e-mailed them in advance to see if there were some options available. Not only did they get back to me right away, but they offered me several off-menu options for starters, dinner, and even dessert: Starters: Soup of the day (we can do a veg soup if you book) Orange & Walnut Salad with Watercress & Balsamic Dressing Sun-Blushed Tomato, Olive & Artichoke Salad Dinner: Mushroom Stuffed Vine Tomatoes with Tempura Veg & Salsa Verde Dressing Cous Cous Stuffed Peppers with Mixed Salad & New Potatoes Marinated Tofu & Noodle Stir fry with Bean Sprouts Dessert: Red Wine Poached Pear With Sorbet Fruit Salad with Fruit Coulis Glazed Pineapple with Mango & Chlli Are you kidding me? I don't get great options like this even when eating at restaurants with vegan options. I got the orange/walnut salad, cous cous stuffed peppers and glazed pineapple and everything was fantastic! Some of the best food I've ever eaten. This place can really cook. (By the way, my non-vegan colleagues loved their food as well) If you are vegan and want to go here, please e-mail them in advance, so they can provide some options and plan for your visit. Not only was the food great, but the place has a nice cozy atmosphere and the owner and staff are great. Not only was the service great, but the owner actually drove us all back to our hotel in Swindon, which isn't that close. I can't say enough about this place, because it was such a surprise. I wish they would come to Minneapolis and set up a restaurant here, because it would beat every pub in town. The next time I go to Swindon, I will be back.

I discovered Three Crowns while working as a consultant in nearby Swindon one summer. This cozy pub was the "go-to" spot whenever the team needed a break from our normal routine (hotel food or late night kebab trucks). Particularly memorable was the "Taste of the Wild"-- kangaroo, ostrich, and venison. The meat wasn't too gamy, and cream sauce was amazing! The homemade desserts are also fantastic. They even have a proper English cheese tray that they roll right up to your table. The Stilton I tried was far and away the best I've ever eaten. And cheese for dessert! Boy, the British sure know how to live! It's a lovely drive into the countryside (including some sketchy single-lane roads!) and well worth it once in a while to splurge on a great meal!

It's a nice pub and establishment. When you enter there's a bar and some cozy indoor seating with natural light. Nothing fancy. There's also a wonderful outdoor patio, which is where we sat. There's two floors to it and most of the seating is covered. The service by workers were all friendly and nice. We ordered with them then paid at the bar. We shared Duck and Orange Pate. It was thick, tasty, and complex but well balanced. I had the Crispy Chicken Sandwich--the mixed leaves were tasty, the chicken crispy, and honestly it was a filling sandwich. I would say I'd like more in between the bread but it did fill me up. You've got plenty of pub options in Burford, but we quite enjoyed our time at The Angel. I know that great grandfather's back millennia helped build the Burford bridge over the little river that's at the foot of high Street and so it was fun seeing all these places and having lunch there and thinking about my families connection to the town. Burford is considered to be the gateway to the cot waltz. The cot walls has an old area that has changed for a little over the hundreds of years and has amazing architecture and houses and farms. It's surrounded by rolling Hills and Dells and little rivers running through it. Burford is considered the gateway to the cot walls because it showcases several styles of very old architecture. that's still an excellent condition. If you have questions about what to do while you're there go to the Tolsey house. But I have to say there is no question that when I got there And it was lunchtime that I selected the angel at Burford to eat the fine food that they serve there. The staff quality of the food everything was amazing. I will return time and time again.

As for the lodging, assuming you're not camping, there's a handful of rooms on the property, outfitted very nicely. They're quiet, pristine, and open directly onto a simple patio space. My sole complaint is that the bathroom featured no overhead shower, just a handheld sprayer, which I imagine was intended for use in the tub as there was also no shower curtain. I scouted out the camper/caravan space sitting about a 10-second walk from the rooms, and it was vey attractive, green, and clean. Restroom and shower for these sites is over near the patio space shared by the rooms. Finally, I am happy to give the pub itself a thumbs up. All of the food I had here was delicious and the space itself is nicely appointed. It's clear that someone puts a great deal of care into the entire enterprise, and I appreciated that. The Thames Head Inn might be the place closest to the source of the Thames River but if you're into that, lucky for you, as there's nothing here that's not to like.
