On a recent trip to Florence I was on the look-out for art stores and art supplies-- both as necessity and to compare to art stores in the United States. Although Bati is a small store, and combination art/hardware/& hobby shop, it had just what I needed. Bati's owner spoke English & was so nice and helpful that I wished I had needed more supplies. He stocks acrylics, oil and watercolor supplies for the serious as well as amateur artist. I bought a pack of Daler-Rowney watercolor postcards that I had forgotten to pack before departure from the US. I painted my way through Florence, Venice & Tuscany. FYI: the Italian postal service is rather slow for delivery to the US. As each card arrived I was reminded of "my" little art store on Via Verdi Giuseppe. An added bonus was that Bati was not far from Santa Croce and our airbnb on Via dei Neri. read more

Cookware store is definitely a good substitute for me for missing the vintage market hours. This little shop has everything, it's like a hardware store mixed with cooking essentials. Initially I just browsed and wasn't planning on getting anything as we were one-bagging around in Italy, but decided I'd get some olive wood cooking utensils to bring back to the US. The little containers for making baked goods pastries definitely caught my attention, I want one of everything but contained myself on hoarding more cooking items. They carried all the Pyrex galore and everything in between. So much to look at and so little time. The pricing were reasonable and a lot of locals in here getting essentials. Great place to purchase locally sourced items.
