We did not have reservations, and they were crowded on a weekday evening. The hostess offered us seats at the bar. I was born in Germany and rarely find authentic cuisine from the motherland. We recently relocated to the area and this was my first visit to the Bavarian Kitchen. The menu was extensive and everything sounded great. The bartender kindly made some recommendations and I tried one. The Jager Schnitzel, which is pork under a mountain of fries and smothered in a creamy mushroom sauce. Service was excellent and the food plentiful and delicious. I took enough home for a second meal the next day. Heard from a coworker the sauerkraut and potato salad were excellent and I look forward to trying them on my next visit. Would've liked to have sampled one of the many desert offerings, but was just too full from dinner. Next time for sure! read more

Definitely worth a try Saw a review for Bavarian Kitchen and did not recognize the restaurant and thought I knew every restaurant in Troutman not that there are that many. Looked in up and it's new and is in the space previously occupied by Rivals Sport Bar. It's only about 10 minutes away from where I work so drove over one day for lunch. The Charlotte area is in desperate need of another good German Restaurant and I was hoping this would be it. Amazed at the transformation on the inside. Looks like a Swiss Chalet although it's Bavarian. Was immediately seated and the first thing my server pointed out was that this was not German but rather Bavarian. Did not know there was a big difference but I showed the menu to a former neighbor this evening who is from Hamburg and he confirmed that this is definitely a Bavarian restaurant. Difference is Bavarian and Austrian Cuisine makes greater use of noodles that their Northern Counterparts. In any case, looked over the menu and immediately spotted one of my favorites which is Wiener Schnitzel . Came with a nice German Potato Salad on a bed of Fries. Not sure how Bavarian Fries are but it worked. Took about 5 minutes and the German Potato Salad came out and it was outstanding. Normally don't see it with a wedge of tomato but it made for a nice contrast in taste and texture. Flavor was excellent and served at exactly the right temperature. About 10 minutes later came the Wiener Schnitzel and I must admit, this was one of the largest serving of Wiener Schnitzel I have ever seen. Made with Pork rather than the more traditional Veal it was still very good. Only regret is that I did not take a picture of if for everyone to see but by that time, I was ravenous and taking a picture did not even enter into my famished mine. Will have to go back and give it another try and will take a picture that time. In terms of atmosphere, cuisine, service and overall quality, this is going to be a welcome addition to the Troutman dining scene. read more

We frequently have dinner here so we were very disappointed to see the change in ownership had a negative impact on the food. Gone is the delicious starter salad plate, the new version is not anywhere close to what was previously served. Also gone are the delicious desserts, now the offer things like cheesecake:( . Those of you who dined here before may recall hearing the schnitzel being pounded as orders were placed, that doesn't happen anymore. The Swiss yummy was tough annd bland. About half way through my meal we found a hair in my plate. We just paid and left, it wasn't worth telling them as we didn't want anything else. With the change in menu they don't have devils toast anymore either. I suppose we will just need to learn how to make it. read more

We dined at the Bavarian Kitchen tonight and met the new owners, the most personable young couple. They came to our table we talked and had the most enjoyable time. You can feel the love they put into their restaurant. Now to our delicious meal, we started out with the veal sausage and pretzel served with a delightful mustard. The salad was so tasty and different than your usual salad. Crisp greens, carrot salad, bean salad, potato salad all in one bowl, the most perfect combination. We ordered the pork schnitzel and the pork roast. All was authentic and out of this world! All was absolutely delicious, the spatzle and red cabbage was outstanding. The pork roast was so tender and flavorful. The pork schnitzel was juicy and tasty. To end the perfect dinner was the perfect desert, Apple Strudel, omg with some ice cream and whipped cream. The crust was flaky and apples were sweet. I highly recommend this restaurant, it was clean, it has the most charming decor, and the servers were nice and friendly. If you want an authentic German meal this is your spot. My only complaint is that we live in Florida so we can't come all the time. read more

I was in Troutman one afternoon looking around and passed the sign Bavarian Kitchen the car was immediately turned around. Walking in was greeted by a woman who would be my waitress dressed in traditional blouse and skirt. After speaking for a few minutes about gluten allergies found there are a few options. Deciding to stay grabbed a table and looked around. Tables and chairs are made of wood like you would find in a beer garden. A couple of murals with mountains (and a couple of cows). Upon checking in found this place was "checkmarked on Yelp". Jager Snitchel was on the menu and had to have it. Order placed was brought a trio of salads cucumber, potato and cabbage salads. All were tasty and very different. A few minutes layer the Jager Snitchel arrived, two large pieces of pork cutlets over skinny fries covered in mushroom gravy. Two bites in found it dry and hard to cut into, when checked on let the waitress know and it was remade. Second dish was delicious the fries and gravy make for a simple dish that works. The price at first was a bit off never having paid more than $13.00 for it. Know the portion here is huge and well worth the money getting two meals out of it. Looking forward to going back sooner than later, if your in the area please do check it out. read more

We had heard about Bavarian kitchen but had wondered if it would live up to the height it didn't just live up to it it absolutely exceeded everything we've been told!! Portions are ridiculously big my wife and I got the dinner for two every bite of it was scrumptious but we had enough left over for two more lunches...each!! The wine selection while not extensive, was very good we appreciated being able to taste the two different wines we were torn between before buying a bottle the sweet red is very nice with schnitzel and Cordon Bleu. The spaetzle is tasty and worth the up charge. Red cabbage was far too sweet for either of us. They were out of a eclairs, which are apparently legendary, and we were initially sad about that however the Apple strudel was spectacular! Go hungry!! read more

The food was great and the people were fantastic. We were passing through and looked up places to eat and were excited to see a German restaurant. They require reservations which initially was only available until later. The person who answered offered the bar for immediate seating. We arrived and three places were set for us. Food was a little slow but was very good. We had the Jagerplatte, weiswurst, and schnitzel. All were a thumbs up. Friendly service and good Dunkel beer. Wunderbar!! Who would have thought that hidden in Troutman, NC that there would be a great German restaurant that serves up some of the best schnitzels in the state. The restaurant is in a very nondescript strip mall off the Main Street. Reservations are a must if you want to get in unless the party is small and you want to sit at the bar. We were immediately seated and greeted by sounds from the kitchen of someone pounding a pork steak into schnitzel. We quickly ordered an appetizer of Hot Sausages and kraut with pretzels and mustard. Totally blown away by the sweet but hot sauerkraut. The sausage was tender and well seasoned with a hearty mustard. Our mains quickly arrived as the app was being finished. We all ordered a variation of schnitzel. My jaeger schnitzel was served with a creamy mushroom gravy over a bed of fries. The schnitzel was fried perfectly with a lite breading and pounded to a thin cutlet that was so tender. The Cordon Bleu schnitzel was stuffed with ham and cheese on served over a bed of fries and served with cranberry sauce. Great flavors and huge portions! We were a bit disappointed in not having an Apple streusel on the dessert menu so we chose the lemon cake as an alternative. Really great flavors and extremely lite taste. read more

We were invited with friends. We were sat and ordered drinks and an appetizer. Then we waited over an hour and noticed everyone else who had been sat after us, had their food. We asked our server when we could expect our salads at least. She shrugged her shoulders and said I don't know. I said, Do you not work here? I obviously had gotten under her skin, which was the point! Like go check on our food and stop being lazy! As if she didn't work there. We continued to wait, as our friend said ownership had changed. After an hour and half waiting, he sees the owner, they speak and he explains the situation the owner. The server comes back to the table and says, I can't take care of you anymore tonight and leaves in a huff. We kinda laugh, because she's not done much for us anyway. The owner finally arrives with four dinner salads. Won't look at us and says, Do you want these? No apology, no explanation, which we figured the server most likely did not put our order in, just nothing. We all looked at the robot because that's how he, the owner was acting, no communication skills what so ever. And said, no, we are done here, and walked out after two hours and no dinner! The entire restaurant was quiet and you could have heard a pin drop! We headed next door for Italian food, where they treated us like family! Welcomed us, got our food quickly! We told them our story and they said, you're not the first ones to tell us that story. We all had a good laugh and great meal next door. We will stick to our normal German place uptown Charlotte! The servers here are the stars!!!! The menu has shined now over the past couple months! I have been made aware that the special menu items are limited and have calendar appearances! They are like gold and you should wait for them! Cold cheese dip is good, careful of the peppers! Every schnitzel we have had is so good! The salad trio makes the main course. We made the trip up to Troutman from Charlotte and are very happy we did. We sampled the dips and the Jägerplatte for appetizers. The apps were good but I have to say we were a bit disappointed with the bread that came with it. The pretzel sticks were good but clearly not fresh. And the rolls were more reminiscent of American dinner rolls. I would have loved to have seen some Farmer's Bread instead or even french rolls would have been better The Entrees were great. The Kasspäzle were very good, the Schweine Cordon Blue was excellent and the Pork Roast and Dumpling was fantastic. The service was great and the atmosphere was about as good as it could get. Bavarian Kitchen was such a travel lover's surprise! If you've ever been through Germany & want to re-live your foodie memories, you have to eat here! The "normal" sized Hefeweizens (IYKYK), the Jager schnitzel, and the sauerkraut were our favorites. Legit, French fries were fantastic...service was special...and we had so many leftovers we had the meal again for lunch the next day. The menu is so big; we will definitely return to try other items. Lastly, I just wanted to appreciate the kindness and special attention they showed to our young children. They had phenomenal spaetzel served in tiny cast iron skillets like a German Mac and cheese and it was so good I wished I had ordered it! ...thanks, Bavarian Kitchen for a fabulous travel memory brought home to NC! Amazing find in Troutman, authentic German cuisine, we have never had a bad meal there. All of our friends agree, as this has become our meeting point if we want to eat out. Schnitzel's are amazing as well as any other menu item, specials are wow what can I say but OMG good. If you go away hungry then something is wrong. The staff are very friendly and attentive and will make the dining experience great with the authentic uniforms. I could not believe the food. It was tasteless and greasy. It was overpriced. I was so disappointed with the dessert. They said it was homemade, but it was suppose to be an eclair. I kinda hard to explain how rude and bitch she was because we were just in shock. Wow amazing, can't believe i've been driving right past this place for years. Super friendly waitstaff, great bartender and the food was excellent. The homemade dressing on the salad is probably the best balsamic dressing i've ever had. For dinner i got the special which was a pot roast and it melted in my mouth. read more

Our first meal here. 4:00pm reservation, were first ones to be seated. Beer came quickly followed by salads. Schnitzel and spaetzel were the best I've had in a few years. I'm a vegetarian and I love this place!!! I haven't been back in a while because they changed up some of their menu items. They had this amazing fried cheese bread dumpling that they served with a vegetarian mushroom gravy that was out of this world! The sour kraut is phenomenal with it! Unfortunately, this was an item that didn't make the cut on the new menu. I will keep checking back because if they ever add this back on, I will rush over and order 10! Okay, maybe not 10 but at least 2 of them! If you go, check the menu for this item because if they have it, you must try it!
