I had a root canal in 2020. The procedure went well and Dr. Michaelian did a non painful procedure. A few weeks later, I had tooth pain. Since the pandemic started the office was closed, so I lived with the pain for 5 years. In 2025 the tooth was more painful so I returned for advice. Another root canal on the same tooth. All the costs were out of pocket because my insurance didn't cover endodontics. 5 months later, I have a gum infection a long the tooth. I went back for advice and now he said I need the tooth extracted. I understand that root canals are not 100% effective. I believe the doctor wasn't being honest with me the second time. I could have saved $4000.00 total. I will not go back there. Beware. read more

I was scammed paid $265 for the dentist to say he couldn't pull out my broken tooth he talked to me like 3minutes and keep saying to speak to my general dentist about it. He mentioned I need to be seen by an oral surgeon. The receptionist older woman was very rude when I asked about having to pay the $265 she said it was for ct X-rays I told her my dentist took those 3months ago and they emailed them over along with my referral she said no sorry we need to collect the payment in order for you to see the dentist . it wasn't my time going with no help. Mind you I was seen here before for a retreat but didn't deal with this rude recieptionist. I also never got a detail receipt either I'm debating if I should dispute the charges in my credit card this is fraud! read more

I had an emergency dental need (severe tooth pain, I needed a root canal, just before Thanksgiving). They are in network but MULTIPLE things were done that were not covered by my insurance. I've had root canals in the past and I never needed those (a CT scan and a wave wash thing). The doctor's skills of injection of anesthesia was a C+. Otherwise he was fine. Everything else was fine. Ambience score: A++ Skill: C+ or B- Ethics: C+ (only a C + because they didn't charge me for the wave thing when it still hurt, not their fault). Overall, don't let the ambience fool you I'M NOT COMING BACK They can easily fix the problem, but I won't find out. I'll do more research and find a more ethical, higher skilled provider. read more

I cracked a tooth with an old crown, and my general dentist told me I needed a root canal. To make matters more stressful, I had a flight in two days that I couldn't miss. I was really in a bind. I started calling around and Bay Area Endodontics was the only place that picked up right away. They were incredibly understanding and got me in the same morning--truly amazing. At my consult, they took standard X-rays and then a specialized endodontic CT scan to look for cracks. Everything was explained thoroughly, and they made sure I understood the next steps before doing anything. I don't have dental insurance, so I was especially mindful of costs. Fortunately, they were transparent and detailed about pricing from the start--no surprises, just clarity and professionalism. I was referred to Bay Area Endo by my general dentist for a root canal due to my high anxiety and they provide IV sedation. I went to Daly City for a consultation and then a month later, was scheduled with Dr. Michaelian in the Sunnyvale office as he is only there Thursdays and Fridays. Everyone was super nice and patient with my high anxiety. I have a huge phobia of dental and had trauma in the past. Anything that gets put in my mouth, like just for cleaning, I would gag a lot, so I'm super thankful they provide IV sedation to make me calm and not aware of the procedure. Shout out to the staff who are super friendly and always there to answer any questions you have. After the procedure was done, I don't remember anything other than how I got to my room and woke up from my bed. LOL! IV sedation is basically putting you in a twilight zone (I'd probably say drunk?) and once the numbing disappear a few hours later, the tooth that had a root canal had no pain whatsoever. Other than mild pressure when you chew on that tooth. I'd say the mild pressure lasted only for a few days, then I was able to finally eat normally within 4-5 days. I do recommend taking Advil if there is some pressure and mild pain when you chew on that tooth. The receptionist also called the next day to check in on me and update me on the procedure. I would highly recommend Bayarea Endo for any root canal procedures! Especially if you need IV sedation! They get you set up very calmly! read more

I came in bright, early & anxious for my root canal appointment and instantly felt more relaxed and welcome chatting with Janelle and the other very nice reception staff! I felt ripped off. I went for consult and a root canal. I knew the cost of the CT scan, but I questioned why they didn't just take regular x-rays, and then if needed, use the CT scan, especially since she needed two other regular x-rays in addition to the scan, after the scan. The staff had so much make-up on it was inappropriate for a medical office, and one of the staff didn't know what she was doing and had to be taught by the doctor during my appointment. Anyway, even though I got in early, and there were no other patients, the doctor kept me waiting 30 minutes pass my appointment time before seeing me. She then came in looked at the x-rays, told me why she wasn't comfortable doing the root canal and that was it. Total cost for nothing was $460.00. What a rip-off. My visit to the Bay Are Enddontics for a root canal was perfect. It was my first time at this clinic and as I walked in, I was greeted by a super cheerful staff! Jasmine explained the non-medical side of things and called me the next day to check up on me. Which I thought that was wonderful. During the root canal procedure, Paulina and the Doc were also great! Paulina made me feel safe when I was getting my numbing shots, which was a big deal for me. I have been so afraid of doctor offices since I was a little girl and avoided doctor visits for as long as possible. However, while I was there for my visit, the whole team made me feel very comfortable. Paulina let me hold her hand while I was getting my shots (big deal for me lol) and made an awesome support personal. The doctor did a great job in taking care of my root canal, explaining the treatment, and the aftercare. The whole staff made me feel welcomed and provided me with great care. In the short time I was at the clinic, everyone made my visit as comfortable as possible. Nobody is obligated to provide and exceptional service, but the Bay Area Endodontics did and I am grateful for that! Let me start by saying I don't have a problem with the doctor but how the information about finances was relayed to me. I called to make an appt regarding if a root canal can be done. I told the receptionist I have all X-rays already including Ct scan. She gave me a ~$500 out of pocket cost of my share for the root canal treatment. I go in for the appointment. I sign forms and there's a separate form for Ct scan for $175, I ask her about it and she said it's included in the treatment price so I was like okay. I go in to see the dentist, they do my Ct scan first, the dentist comes in, looks at my tooth and tells me he can't do a root canal on my tooth which I understood. The whole process took 2 mins. I go out and she charges me for Ct scan. I even asked her politely why and she said because you took the scan. I felt like I was tricked. I should have been told before that I would be charged for the CT scan out of pocket when I come in. I had all my X-rays myself and it was obvious that a root canal wasn't needed from looking at my own X-rays and my tooth. At that moment I didn't want to say anything and I was in tooth pain so I paid and left. I wouldn't mind paying for the scan if an actual root canal treatment was done but if there's no treatment done and I have my own X-rays to determine if root canal can be done or not. Then to charge for Ct scan is SO WRONG and especially without even informing me on the phone when appt was made. read more

Third time trying to come in for the doctor to correct the tooth he did not file down well enough and my mouth does not close on the right side. He worked on me the first Time, then I had to go back and have him do it again from some error they made reconstruct same tooth. I will check to see how much they charged me and get back in. Now after second time, the mouth does not close equally. The work he did on the R. lower side was now filed down enough and he asked me, is that too high, I said, well I can't tell, I guess then he walked off. Normally, everywhere else I go they use a litmus paper or something to have me tap on to see if the teeth are even on both sides, he did not do it and subsequently, I have had very bad problems and even thought the upper tooth was acting up, because it had swelling. Now since swelling down, I can tell it is the tooth he worked on. I called for a appt, they said, I need to pay $700 deductible first. I said well I can not right now. The swelling went down and I realize it is the bottom tooth (the one re-worked on twice and now will be the third time. OMG..This is too much, I do NOT recommend. They said that they would give me a courtesy call 1-2 days before the appointment. I often don't answer my phone when I don't recognize a number. That's on me. I wouldn't recommend this orthodontist. I had an appointment at 1pm. We started with the regular filling out forms and the x-rays. By 1:30pm we had decided that we would go ahead with the root canal. It all seemed to be going well and the doctor said that the procedure would take about an hour and a half. Well, he already had other appointments scheduled and he would leave me waiting while he was doing consultations to others. Leaving me mouth open in the middle of the root canal. Took 3+ hours total. I was so uncomfortable and in pain that they had to inject me again When they called me for a follow up...I told them how bad the experience was. Later they sent me a card (picture) with a $50 gift card. Sorry, not worth the pain. It would have been better to schedule me for another time. I would have understood. read more

Great experience all around! Their suite in the medical park is easy to find, they're on the right hand side (look for the bridge logo) and there's tons of parking. Mimi at the front desk was a ray of sunshine (you can feel the smile behind the mask) and made sure I was all set up with the potential treatment plan prices, scheduling out my next appointment, and keeping me company while the doctor got ready. Next I met Jenny who took my xrays and scans and assisted Dr. Kory Golchert through the various procedures. I came in with a janky old crown and he let me know that depending on what we found it might take multiple visits, but he updated me through the process and we found out they didn't do a thorough job the first time around. We made up for that today! I appreciated when Dr. Kory would explain what he was working on and what he was discovering, and his descriptions of the next sensation I would experience were accurate. It was interesting to hear what the possible outcomes were at each step, and I had reasonable expectations set if there had been a lot of bad news under there. I was particularly impressed with the timing of the analgesic shots, he managed to numb JUST the area worked on and the numbness wore off pretty quickly when I got home. Not that I could feel the work, but he managed not to numb any extraneous parts of my mouth. As much as I appreciate the pain-blocking during the procedures I always dread having a "missing" side of my face, and I really didn't feel like this today. (For context I had regular dental work yesterday and it was the standard novacaine experience.) They sent me off with some literature about the procedures and follow-up care instructions, and they outlined what I should watch for and what's "normal" discomfort in healing. A final pleasant surprise is that I have a complementary follow-up in a year, which is NOT something the previous endodontist offered. So while I came in for not great reasons, and I don't want to visit A LOT, I'm glad I did today and won't mind visiting in a year. read more

I had a very confusing experience here. I went here instead of Peninsula Endo because BA was in network with MetLife. There were two scheduling people I spoke with trying to set up my appointment and one was amazing and one was kind of all over the place. I really had to push to set up a consult separate from same-day treatment. I knew there was a chance my tooth couldn't be saved and so I knew it would be a bad idea to book a treatment appointment. The very idea that one needs to know for sure is odd- that is what a consult is for, so that an expert can decide. Anyhow, on site, the endodontist I saw was amazing- she looked long and hard at the scans and went over in detail her hypothesis and the evidence for it and made me feel really confident in her diagnosis, the hygienist ct scan person was wonderful, and one of the front desk women was lovely. The confusion really amped up when it was decided, by the expert, that they couldn't save the tooth and I would need an implant. The male with the pony tail at the front desk with lots of extra special personality then proceeded to tell me in detailed, contradictory, confusing, spiraling detail about how implants are really expensive and they take about a year to complete and they only have one endo who does implants so good luck with that... I say, no no, that's great, well I don't want an implant either but if I have to have one I'd like to get on it so I'd like to see the doctor you have that performs them. Him: well, he's booked a month out. Me: great, that will work just fine for me. Him: well, we don't even know if he works with your dentist. Me: Um, well I don't care too much for my dentist so which dentists does Dr. Michaelian work with? Him: Um, it doesn't work like that. Me: Ok, um, how does it work? Him: Well, only some dentists are familiar with the system we use. Me: Oh, ok, what system is that? Him: I'll write it down for you. (writes it down on a post it note and hands it to me). Me: So I just, like, call my dentist and see if he uses this system and if not I call other dentists? Him: Sure you can try that. Me: What is actually happening right now? I thought this place was a provider for the service that I need but they either don't want to do it or don't have good systems in place to do it? Sounds like it might be easier and better to find an endo office who can say, "We are so sorry you will lose your tooth and need an implant. We are here to make the process as easy and transparent as possible. Here is step one and step two and step three. This is how we will work with your dentist and your invisalign provider etc. This is the estimated cost." If anyone has had that experience please send me the recommendation. If I can give this place an even lower rating I would. Bay Area Endodontics are crooks who charge for doctor's consultation in advance and will not give you refund once insurance cover the bill. This office is MONEY HUNGRY! Avoid this practice! After reading all the good reviews on Yelp I made an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Michaelian at Bay Area Endodontics at Sunnyvale office. Once I arrived for my appointment receptionist told me that I'll have consultation with one of Dr Michellian's practitioner without my consent or any heads up over the phone in advance. (In that case I would've cancelled the appointment because I wanted to get to a specific doctor I choose based on reviews). I ended up having consultation with Dr Peritore who I didn't like and got my root canal done at another practice later. (Thanks God!!) I paid for this consultation at the office and two weeks later my insurance covered it so they needed to send me a refund check. But I never heard back from them. I called them multiple times trying to get my money back but everytime they keep pointing fingers to each other promising they send it right away but they don't. I was referred here by my daughters Pediatric dentist after she was seen and treated for a broken front tooth. (Caused by an accident at school) Originally the pediatric dentist filled the broken front tooth. But my daughter still had sensitivity when eating certain foods for months after. Went back to her dentist and they couldn't find the problem. So, we went with their recommendation and couldn't be more pleased with our experience! Dr. Michaelian DMD re-did the terrible job done on her tooth and was so cool to meet. Now the staff: Mona, Mabel, Jasmine & Deanna. You guys rock! Definitely made us smile and feel at ease while there. My daughter is only 9 and hasn't even had a cavity before. So to go straight to a root canal and numbing, one can only imagine how terrified she was and how a Mommy's heart would feel after trying to get her smile back to good along with being pain free. I had this office referred from another office in San Francisco to take care of my husband's root canal. We had an emergencial appointment at 2:30pm on Thursday, Wendy called on Wednesday and said that the insurance was taken care of and they would reschedule for 10:30am. We got there 10:00am we waited until 11:25am until finally the girl on the front desk, probably Wendy, said that they never got the insurance referral and if they didn't get in the next 5 minutes they wouldn't take us through the insurance. So unprofessional, they should have called the other dentist's office and ask for the referral documents, rushing the patient in pain to get referral documents that we never saw in life. Wanted to charge us the full amount and they would send a check if they got the document! How can you be so unprofessional? Nothing was taking care of, you have no excuses for anything. Never gonna drive one hour again for emergencial appointment to this place, don't trust them, they are running a Meecky mouse operation there!! To rebook an appointment, they asked me to pay $75 nonrefundable penalty to go back to my dentist and get a referral for the correct paining tooth. Front desk agent Stephany was rude to a patent who is in pain. As other reviewers mentioned that this place is a money hungry place. Please note that no one told me at previous appointment cancelation time that there is a cancelation fee of $75, I might not have cancelled knowing this and could have tried to work with my dentist in time. I have to start out with saying i am probably the most anxious person when it comes to dental care.... i called yesterday as a new patient with severe jaw pain and noticed a discoloration on my old root canal treated tooth... they got me in right away... Dr. Marshall Michaelian was so warm and welcoming, so detailed yet right to the point when explaining the procedure and my options. Not once did i feel rushed, not once did i feel like this was in any way an attempt to collect the most out of my out of pocket expense ( i have fantastic insurance, but if i didnt i wouldve gladly paid out of pocket just to be treated by this doctor) His entire staff was fantastic as well starting with Mari at the front desk who was so professional and so welcoming, then his dental assistant Lori was soooooooo great and super comforting.
