With my daughter in excruciating pain and distress due to a sudden earache, I had hoped for efficient and compassionate care. However, the entire experience fell short of even the most basic expectations, leaving me deeply dissatisfied and concerned about the level of professionalism and attentiveness displayed by the staff. Upon arrival, my daughter was crying and shaking from ear pain. I informed the medical assistant (MA) of the pain in her right ear. When asked about additional symptoms, I mentioned that she had an occasional dry cough. The MA completely disregarded me and said "I am putting down she has a sore throat." To further ignore my clarification that my daughter did not have a sore throat, she informed me that she was going to swab her for strep. The MA's insistence on swabbing her for strep despite the absence of relevant symptoms left me speechless. I told her not to swab my daughter and if upon examination the doctor felt it should be done, then he could order a strep swab. The MA abruptly left the room at that point and told me she was going to get the doctor. After a brief wait, the provider entered the triage room, confirmed the right ear infection, and examined her throat. The doctor instructed the MA to bring some Motrin. She walked in, handed me the medicine cup, and left without a word. I was trying to convince my daughter to take the medication when the MA returned and abruptly announced that she needed the room for other patients. With no further guidance or discharge instructions provided, we went up front to check out. To add to the list of shortcomings, it is alarming to note that no vital signs were taken for my daughter, and the physical examination was limited to checking just one ear and her throat. Furthermore, no discharge instructions were provided, and I was not even asked about her current medications, except for any allergies she might have. These omissions, along with the lack of consideration for my daughter's pain and distress, demonstrate a complete lack of attention to detail and a disregard for standard care protocols. As someone with 18 years of experience in healthcare, including 9 years in urgent care, I found the entire encounter wholly unacceptable. The level of care displayed at this urgent care facility was subpar and failed to meet even the most basic standards of professionalism and patient-centeredness. Had my daughter not been in such agonizing pain and pleading to go home, I would have taken the opportunity to address these numerous issues during the visit and advocated for her properly. I can confidently say that this encounter was a complete letdown. I have no faith in the competence of the staff at this urgent care facility, and I will not be returning. I implore others seeking medical care for themselves or their loved ones to consider alternative options that prioritize patient well-being and provide the attention and care that is essential in times of medical need.
