Horrible service and the food was not desirable. The ambiance is drab to say the least with dirty ceilings/walls. The service was horrible. With only 3 tables occupied and 2 waitresses we waited over 30 min for our order to be taken, 45 min before we received it and it was not as depicted on the menu. Stuffed Red Snapper with dirty rice was not stuffed but a few pieces of badly grilled fish topped with mush. Dirty rice was NOT traditional dirty rice but some sort of variation of Mexican rice. No one came back for 20 min after food was served. By that time my order was cold and I asked for a refund. Waitress was condescending when we expressed our concerns and when she returned with our receipt. I won't even talk about the crawfish Étouffée that my husband ordered. Save yourself time and money. I work driving through East Texas and usually try to hit up a crawfish place once a month. Always looking for the best of the best. The restaurant on appearance looks dated but has a a pretty large seating area with plenty of tables. Not sure if they have music but it would've been nice if they had some playing to drown out the guttural noises I was making whilst mechanically destroying my meal. The waitress who took my order was very attentive but when I asked about the crawfish, she had a very indifferent attitude. Initially I was only going to order 4 Lbs with some corn and sausage but the restaurant had a deal for 5Lbs at a pretty decent price. The meal came out piping hot and the portion was all of the 5Lbs that was advertised. The corn was naturally sweet but would have been better if had been cooked with the crawfish because it didn't have seasoning. The sausage was ok but I'm pretty sure it wasn't andouille. The crawfish itself was absolutely delicious! The majority of the mudbugs were large and seasoned just right. There were a few things that would I would suggest though. The place only offers one flavor or hotness and while the heat builds slightly and tasted delicious, It would have been better to have a hotter option. I only wish I had gotten my server's name, so I could give her a shout out along with this place. I won't pretend the place is perfect, but it's shortcomings are truly superficial. Let's start there to prove my case: The atmosphere has HUGE potential, but the lights being so bright make the neon almost gaudy. Dim it by a notch or two, and I'd be content. I've read "hole in the wall" and to that I say "AND? The best places usually are." I also was disappointed that while there was an avocado smoothie on the menu, it didn't exist in reality yet. So now, after mentioning it to my fiancée at home, I have to make it myself for us both. The service..... it wasn't bad, at all. Just could tell it seemed my server was sort of new maybe? Waitress was young and unsure, but expeditiously got me what I needed, including answers, and was a joy to interact with overall. This I'm sure will change with her experience, and I hope I'm not offensive in my candor by saying what I have. My bill, was $60 eating on my own (understand my inner fat kid was delighted by the menu) and she earned every bit of her tip, which looking back I hope she makes a good hourly as well. I left $20 for her, and feel guilty I didn't stick with my gut and leave more. Slow night, but I got great service:.... And now to the food: WTF!?!?? Imagine a Surf and Turf, with Cajun and Mexican flares...... I say "GIMMIE!!" That's EXACTLY what I got. I ordered the Mexican Shrimp cocktail as an appetizer and let me say "YES!" The shrimp on the lip of the glass were large, the shrimp floating in the glass small, delicious, and didn't seem to have ever been frozen. The sauce, of which on the first bite tasted very sweet and lovely, got hot when I found the jalapeños, and by the bottom it was a very persistent and wanted heat. I LOVED it. I also order the 16oz Tbone and Lobster tail. Steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare), and had a lovely flavor. I have never had a Tbone melt in my mouth quite so easily, and I almost felt disappointed I didn't have to chew so much. It was an excellent cut, and as I said perfectly cooked and seasoned. Not overpowering, did NOT require steak sauce. The Lobster tail, I think, was grilled. It too was seasoned perfectly, and while I was surprised not to see a butter sauce to dip in, it was not required nor would it have been used had it arrived. The vegetables were delicious, zucchini and broccoli and perfectly seasoned again! I got the "dirty rice" as my side. Chunks of sausage and just a delicious flavor and texture. This place earned five stars, at every step. I mentioned to my girlfriend that we will be coming here together. I live out of state, in Kentucky, but drive a truck and visit the area frequently. It was very much a surprise to find it so close to a truck stop offering ease of walking. All in all, a great and repeatable experience. I will be back! read more

Great local seafood joint. Fresh, hot, fast, tasty, and cheap. Don't get me wrong the curb appeal is lacking, and the mix of brown leather booths, banquets and dark wood walls is nothing to write home about. However once you get passed that, the smell of fresh seafood and spices, gets you salivating. Their menu has just about every kind of mix/match seafood combination you can think of. Each plate comes with fresh cut French fries and a salad, or with a dinner you get a combo of dirty rice and crawfish étouffée. Did I mention for cheap! They also have an a la carte menu which features soft-shell crab, hush puppies, frogs legs, etc... The grilled frogs legs were to die for. They are so tender, and brushed with an olive oil and herb finishing sauce. We were so impressed with them, that we got an extra order to go. Not my first experience with Baytown Seafood. Always pleasant service as takeout customer, one occasion was running late to pickup order, staff was still accommodating even though we arrived just past closing time. My hopes were high on a Friday evening when ordering delivery (I have never dined inside). Ordered the large seafood gumbo, there was liquid consistent with broth, very clear and obviously not roux. The veggie chunks did not seem to be cooked before added to the 'gumbo'. I observed a couple very small clumps of crab meat, the sausage lacked color and flavors to increase the flavor profile of the dish. Gumbo was lacking in every possible way. Fried shrimp and fried catfish main course, catfish was soft fried, not crisp enough as it fell apart when lifted to take a bite. Dirty rice side was flavorful and had bits of meat, not many diced vegetables though. I has fried corn side also, this was my fault, I didn't read to understand I was getting corn-on-the-cob battered and deep-fried. Same flavor profile as the battered shrimp. read more

When I end up in Baytown, Baytown Seafood is one of the first places I go. It's not to hard to see why what began as a tiny hole-in-the-wall in old Baytown has become an east Texas chain. Why? I'm admittedly a sucker for greasy fried Southern seafood and that's really all Baytown Seafood is good for. And damn, they do it so well. First of all, they serve nearly everything you would reasonably want fried: catfish and shrimp for the unadventurous; oysters and crawfish for the true Gulf Coast natives; and frog legs for the people who are that kind of nasty... Also of importance, everything is covered in some sort of delicious and addictive vaguely creole season salt. In short, cayenne and black pepper are everywhere, even on the French fries that round out most of the fried plates. The seafood also comes in other worthwhile non-fried styles. I particularly recommend the shrimp cocktail. Despite finding a really good niche to exploit, I still have a few issues with Baytown Seafood. They always manage to overcook my oysters and their house salad is abominable. (Keep in mind that I despise iceberg lettuce). The waitstaff is hit or miss and is peculiarly and overwhelmingly composed of high school-aged girls... I'm not going to make any allegations on that point, but after frequenting this place for years. it's more than obvious. I also noticed that the portions seem to be getting skimpier. I understand that food prices have risen, but I didn't come to a deep-fried fish joint because I wanted to exercise restraint. Also, if you come at prime lunch and dinner hours, expect a packed house, screaming brats included. All of this isn't to say that Baytown Seafood doesn't have non-seafood, because they definitely do... but isn't that a bit like going to a steakhouse for the salad bar? Anything seafood on their menu is quite good, but fried shrimp in particular is, well, near perfection. Always crunchy, golden in color, and quite tasty. No no no no....If I could give 0 stars I would have. Came in town on business and met family at Baytown Seafood (Baytown location) for dinner. Hush puppies and boudin balls were meh at best. The salads that came out with every plate were nothing more than a prepackaged iceberg lettuce mix with 2 cherry tomatoes and a plastic to-go dish of salad dressing. The first plate- T-Bone steak and Jumbo shrimp with a "loaded" baked potato- Over cooked steak with half fat, horribly seasoned, covered with a half cooked onion and topped with a Mexican flag toothpick. The Jumbo shrimp were boiled and a medium sized shrimp at best. The potato clearly was old and tasted stale covered with fake bacon bits and came with a plastic tube of sour cream. The garnish a cheesy piece of parsley and a lemon slice. The second plate- The seafood platter with red snapper- The snapper was cut super thin so by the time it made it through cooking came to the table as a piece of snapper jerky. The vegetables were very lack luster and didn't fit the meal. The third and fourth plates- 6 Fried shrimp with an a la carte stuffed crab- The fried shrimp were bread and fried in a mysterious orange breading. The butterflied shrimp came out without being deveined. The fries were shoestring fries doused in Tony C's seasoning. The stuffed crab I'm quite certain was straight from the freezer and tasted like it was stuffed with stove top stuffing with a dash of seafood favoring. While the food was very lack luster and concretes this establishment as a dive; I'm certain that combined with the service that even Gordon Ramsey wouldn't qualify this place for Kitchen Nightmares. The server was a rare sight and being the only table in the establishment should have been a red flag to begin with. The ketchup was brought to the table with what appeared to be mold growing on the container label. Once the food was delivered the server never came back to check on the meal or check for refills at the table. If you are entertaining this restaurant for your next meal I would strongly suggest that you pass and not make the same mistake that our party did. read more

It had a little bit of spice, which I liked. My friend had the fried shrimp and crab cake. I'd give this place four stars for food. The service, however, was really lacking. We arrived at 5 pm on a Sunday and had to wait a while for someone to notice its at the door. The server was fairly unenthusiastic about waiting on us. She brought our salads, but no forks, so I had to hunt her down. When our entrees came, we had to request condiments. And she got part of my order wrong, but insisted that's what I ordered. It bothers me that so little effort is put in to making sure basic points of service are done correctly. read more

The reality: this place can cook some very tasty seafood, fried and grilled. I brought my boyfriend back for dinner that same night! I had the grilled snapper on my first visit, then tried the grilled salmon the next two times. All delicious! The side salad is lackluster at best, but subbing it for a side of amazing crawfish étouffée is worth far more than the .99 upcharge. There was still poop and guts on them and it was floating around , so I was not able to eat it. The dirty rice was disgusting, I have NEVER seen chopped ham in dirty rice and the seasoning was off. my husband and I were having a date night last night and we went to Baytown Seafood. I ordered a snapper filet that came with 4 shrimp and crawfish etouffee on top. I also ordered a baked potato instead of rice. They brought my meal out and no etoufee on top. the waitress told me I didn't hear you say that. There wasn't anything to hear, I ordered it by number and repeated what it was. She then tries to convince me to let it slide. I asked her to bring the etouffee out and I would spoon it out. She said "oh well I would have to charge you ". I told her, " And I would really like the dish I ordered". So she picked up the plate and took it back to the kitchen. A few minutes later she brought it out with the etouffee on it. I took one bite and the etouffee was cold. I ended up scraping the etouffee off and ate the snappe. The snapper was excellent. They also included the dirty rice. The dirty rice wasn't cooked all the way either, it wasn't even supposed to be on the plate. The price of my entree was supposed to be 19.99 plus 1.99 for the potato. Well they charged me 19.99 for the entree, 1.99 for the potato and an extra TWO dollars for the etouffee that was suppose to be on the original dish. I've tried a location in Pearland, and it had some good and some bland dishes. This location is pretty big. There's ample booths and tables. There was a leaking vent near a table and a broken table that wobbled and was crooked, but it is a decent place to eat in. The cheeseburger is simply a decently thick patty with a slice of cheddar, which is exactly what I wanted. The fries are thin shoestring fries. The large shrimp are deep-fried and battered. The salad that comes with is iceberg with a few pieces of tomatoes and onions. I come for the large shrimp and the cheeseburger. Service is nice but inattentive. The seafood gumbo was good. Nicely spiced with decent seafood (crab claws, small but plump shrimp, a few thin pieces of sausage, celery, and I think bell peppers). It comes with a tiny bowl of rice. There is one reason that we come to Baytown Seafood... and it may surprise you. FRIED RICE! They have delicious fried rice, and I always cover it in a healthy dose of siracha sauce! It's always good. Unfortunately, some of the seafood dishes I have gotten over there have left some things to be desired... they are not the best. The stuffed crab is always too dry and flavorless, for instance.
