We usually visit this spot on a Sunday evening and the food hasn't disappointed. You have to look past the exterior and decor and focus on the food. For me, I try to order food that is in season so that it is fresh. Side note: Gumbo is not their fortay but grilled fish and shrimp are. We were hungry and this is close by and hadn't been recently. We had a chicken gumbo and a shrimp gumbo. I also had a loaded baked potato. The gumbos were authentic made from roux and with file. The bases had a very good flavor. You could tell they were made chicken or shrimp by dropping those ingredients into the base. The chicken was good, fried or roasted, with no bones, but the shrimp were small frozen. The gumbo was still good because of the good base with sausage. The large was bit larger than we expected. The baked potato was small but good with sour cream, butter, chives, cheddar cheese shreds, and fake bacon bits. Service was fast and good. This is a nice basic seafood place with nothing special and reasonable prices now. I notice they close early because this is a basic establishment and not fine dining. We should have gotten back in the car when we saw the bars on the windows and doors. We didn't. We tried to dine. The shrimp cocktail was half way decent. Then it all went downhill. The gumbo was disgusting. It looked and tasted like brown mud. The saltine crackers were so stale it seemed like they had been there 20 years. The raw oysters were bloated and tasted so rancid that I had to send them back. I had taken one bite and threw up the oyster and the shrimp! The bathroom wasn't clean. So nasty. After all that, we left and hoped we could find a real restaurant between there and our destination. DO NOT EAT AT THIS FILTHY GROSS RESTAURANT!!! It doesn't even deserve 1 star. read more

Both my husband and I had an upset stomach after eating here. Breading was very heavy and overpowered the shrimp and oysters. Greasy and grease smelled old upon entering from outside. We stopped in Baytown for a wedding nearby,just passing through. This restaurant was within walking distance of our hotel,and it was a Friday in Lent,so we thought,why not? We should have looked at the reviews first is why not!!! First of all,the service is TERRIBLE. Everyone there serving has major attitude and our server past us and literally set down our plates so roughly,it was like she threw it. It was loud and some of our fries came off our plates. We were so hungry because it was a very long drive,we ended up staying for another plate of fried shrimp and fish and an order of boiled crawfish. We ended up just taking it back to our hotel room. So I went here once and ordered Red Snapper, and what I got was most definitely not Red Snapper. The taste, texture, everything was off. Tried to explain to the waitress and she supposedly went to the back to ask the cooks about the fish they prepared and of course, they kept insisting that it was Snapper. I was working in La Porte for a week and ended up trying just about every place available for lunch - this was my favorite. The cool interior was nice during the midday heat, so I was surprised to find they were only about half full. Fine by me, I don't like waiting for a table. Pricing seemed quite reasonable, drinks are huge. Seafood gumbo had some really authentic flavor, but the stand out was the Po Boys, which are the best I've had in Houston to date. Never been here before, but I'll likely come back again. I was seated quickly, drinks, salad and entree were delivered promptly. I had the grilled salmon and 6 grilled shrimp. The mixed veggies were heavy on the zucchini but the green beans were good (not a fan of zucchini but that's not their problem). The salmon was very good as were the shrimp. I have been here several times and ordered / picked up food from here several times. Essentially, the food is good and the service is slow. I waited more than 30 minutes for 3 entrees as carryout yesterday, but everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Their food was actually pretty good. I ordered the seafood grill and the red snapper was seasoned to perfection. The other food I tried was ok but not bad or anything. I had to take off a star though because the food just took waay to long to come out. Between the salad and the main meal, we waited thirty minutes. Decided to try this place mainly because it was in the hotel parking lot and we didn't feel like going out really. First off the place looks HORRIBLE inside and out, it is possible to at least wipe down the booths all though they have obviously never heard of this concept. The service was below average, we finally got a booster seat at the end of our meal after we flagged down another waitress and asked her twice. The taste of the food wasn't horrible it was surprisingly decent which I was not expecting much out of the place based off of the way it looked, but not worth the money paid by any means. You can easily find better food at the price point pretty well anywhere else. We were both pleasantly surprised by the food here. First off, the servings are huge! We way over ordered. The prices were reasonable for what we got, however, I was a bit disappointed as the prices on the menu were not updated to reflect current pricing so we paid a little more than expected. We got the gumbo and boudain balls to start. The boudain balls were nice and crispy with a cornmeal crust and super moist inside. They were also a great size. I wish they had a little more seasoning, but nothing a little hot sauce couldn't fix. The gumbo was alright. I've personally never seen chicken in gumbo and this one has a lot of shredded chicken. We also got the king crab legs which were great, but you can't really mess up steamed crab. We split the grilled flounder plate and it had great flavor. The plate also came with a salad and baked potato for like $15! Overall, I'd come back here. My only word of caution is to not come here if you're in a rush as the service is a little slow. read more
