My first experience with Korean BBQ chicken was outside of DC. I was excited to "find" this shop over the weekend & bring my kids for takeout lunch. I ordered a half & half (original & secret), a small honey garlic and a small soy garlic, as the half & half is only very specific flavors. What I found upsetting was the manager/proprietor of this location did not seem interested in responding to my questions about specific allergens (their sign said no peanuts, but I needed to know about the tree nuts used). He was happy (?) when I pointed out a nail that was sticking out of the bar that I caught my sweater on. The K-pop music was blaring with literally no one in the restaurant. It was definitely sensory overload while waiting for the to-go order. My youngest wasn't happy with the milk tea (prefers popping boba over tapioca) but very much enjoyed the original chicken. Totally loved the chicken here. Finally a great Korean BBQ spot in the area. The space looks small when you walk up, BUT the inside is huge. Very clean, tons of space, and cute decor. Will definitely eat in next time. The host was very nice. Their to go boxes were even super cute. The chicken was fried to perfection and very crunchy while still keeping the chicken itself very moist. This place rules. It's very casual. You order when you walk in and they give you a buzzer for when your food is ready. I ordered a small order of wings with their secret sauce and a small order with their Gangnam style sauce. Both sauces were really good. The secret sauce was more sweet and tangy and the Gangnam had a little kick and it was soy sauce based. The wings are deep fried and breaded. So good. The music is popping as they play some Kpop on the TVs at the bar. This is a national chain and normally I don't review chain restaurants but for this I'll make an exception. It's really good. There are so many tables and a huge bar but it was empty when we came in. Ordering is a little different here as it's a counter service type of restaurant. You order at the counter and then come pick it up when your buzzer goes off. Very much a takeout spot but they have so much room to eat there. We ordered the Gangnam style and secret sauce style boneless chicken with a side of kimchi fried rice. We also got a boba tea and a mango tea as well. They had a cooler of typical soft drinks available too. Food took about 15-20 minutes to make and have ready for us but they had a nice tv with some Korean tv show on which was kind of cool! The food was good. I liked the Gangnam style chicken way more. The rice had a good amount of spice but there wasn't a lot of flavor. The secret sauce chicken was good but the flavor wasn't as good as the others. Overall, not too bad of a meal. The total came to $75 which is honestly a bit high of a price for chicken and considering the portion sizes provided. The boneless chicken was super dry, chewy and basically inedible because of that. The rose ddeok was tasty but also insanely spicy for my personal taste. The cheeseling wings were okay, nothing super special our out of this world. Considering the prices and the low quality of the chicken provided (especially the boneless being very dry), I can't say I will be running back to bbq chicken. read more

Again, I'm comparing to the bb.q in Rochester, and their wings had more sauce and looked more presentable than what I got here. Plus their wings seem bigger than the ones here. We had the Gangnam Style and Soy Garlic multiple times already.. last time I was there, we also tried the Galbi and Cheesling and we're all pleasantly surprised. I love both! The Cheesling reminds me of a fave childhood snack. It's different but good!! The sweet cheese powder on it is interesting and addicting. On a different time, my bf ordered original chicken wings because he doesn't like spicy food. He says it's good but he did not expect for it to have a kick. I'm not sure if that's how it's suppose to taste or we were given the spicy original instead. Rose' Ddeok-Bokki is good. It's creamy and spicy. Our least fave is the Kimchi fried rice. We only ordered it once. AMBIANCE They have a pretty chill ambiance. Nice, cozy place. Love the interior. There's plenty of seats too. You can sit wherever you want. They have a bar but I've never seen a bartender there. SERVICE I only took 1 star off because price is a little high (especially the drinks) for a self-service place. You know, the name totally doesn't fit this super cool Korean fried chicken place!! Everything is so yummy! What was surprisingly yummy was the cheesling chicken! I've gone back several times for takeout for my family and we always also get the rose tteokbokki with cheese and egg and also the yummy kimchi fried rice with cheese and egg! Bbq chicken opened this location in Buffalo, NY in early summer. It is an international chain that focuses on Korean fried chicken but also other Korean dishes. After hearing that they opened, I was very eager to try their chicken. We ordered the combo half and half whole chicken. We went with the golden original and secret sauce. The golden original has a fantastic taste alone and the secret sauce is absolutely magical. The secret sauce is tangy with a little bit of spice. Honestly, it's my ideal wing sauce! The chicken itself it's crispy on the outside and perfectly moist, including the breast, on the outside. We also ordered the kimchi fried rice with an egg on top, which I did not take a photo of. The kimchi fried rice was perfectly cooked and measures well up against the other Korean places in Buffalo. Overall, bbq chicken, in my opinion, is the best fried chicken place in Buffalo and my second favorite fried chicken place in the world after Al Baik in Saudi Arabia. Order: Rose Ddeok-Bokki (rice and fish cakes in a creamy sweet and spicy red chili sauce). Very interesting dish. Never had it before and didn't know what to expect. Wasn't fishy at all. The rice cakes were like big cavatellis and the sauce was like a spicy penne alla vodka. Really good dish. Half & Half Whole Chicken (1/2 original and 1/2 secret sauce). The half and half combo was an assortment of legs, breasts, wings, and boneless meat. Prefer KFC over the original, but really liked the secret sauce (hot and tangy) The key to the unique taste is that their fried chicken is hand brushed, hand battered, and fried at lower temperatures for longer periods of time to create a unique crispy texture. I found the taste and texture pleasant. Bottom Line: The Rose Ddeok-Bokki was unique and absolutely terrific.
