I was raised on Americana; I know it makes me a bit of a philistine, but what can I say? American TV was like my third parent, and that cultural upbringing has followed me into my early twenties. Whilst before I was a fan of Power Rangers and Hang Time and Saved By The Bell, now I'm a slave to Battlestar Galactica (the current obsession), Boston Legal and, most pertinently, How I Met Your Mother.
Anyone who has watched more than a few episodes of How I Met Your Mother will be aware of the brunch connection I've got going on here. For the uninitiated, brunch is the meal between breakfast and lunch. In America, this is big business. Over here in our non-decadent, productive society, people are too busy to have their brunches and whatnot. But doesn't it sound wonderful? 11am, sitting down to pancakes, sausages, scrambled eggs and all that other wonderful American artery-stuffing? I know we have elevenses, but that doesn't sound nearly as mischievous.
BBL gets that. And whilst they don't quite cater for the Americans among us, their attempt at providing a temple of brunch is admirable. It helps that the food is great there, and cheap too. So if you're feeling the pang at 10:30, BBL is the place to go. Try it and join me. Together, we can make brunch a Thing. read more
