"Be Beautiful for Him" is the unassuming salon along Kalayaan street that is also the Fresh Matronas of Bel Air's best kept secret. (There is no group called Fresh Matronas of Bel Air but there should be.) Before you quip that the salon's name sounds slightly chauvinistic, I should tell you the "Him" actually means God. Baby, the owner, is a very sweet religious woman.
This parlor has been around since the 60s. It's old, but it's still a clean, well-maintained, no frills establishment where the service is top notch. All of the employees have been working here for a very long time; I literally grew up with all these sassy yet kind ladies, who are also incredibly fast, precise and amazing multi-taskers. They've primped and dolled up tons of Makati's socialites. They will do your hair, do your nails, and wax you all at the same time. And they'll do it well. You may want to bring your own nail polish there though, as their polish arsenal isn't diverse nor updated, though they've got the basics covered. Also, bring something to do while waiting (if your hands are free) their magazines are outdated as well.
Nemia always cuts my hair, and she's very easy to direct if you know exactly what kind of hairstyle you want and give detailed instructions.
One other thing I secretly enjoy about this joint is that it has that "movie salon" feel because of all the long-time regulars this salon has. Everybody knows everybody and talks about everybody and everything. It's also a great peoplewatching experience.
The last thing about this salon that absolutely WINS is that they also sell the BEST polvoron, pastillas and chicharon I've ever had. When you visit, please make sure to take some home, and pop th polvoron in the ref for a while before you eat it. You're welcome. read more
