The courts are a bit pricey for non residents but it's worth the experience if you want to indulge yourself. The new hard courts have a nice cushion feel and the landscaping is jaw dropping from every direction as the courts are next to the golf course. They have nice seating area and a great wall that you can practice against that seems as high as the clouds when you stand next to it. Maybe a week to hear back. Only way you can get a pickleball lesson from Brian is by signing up for a months-long commitment. Might be a great tennis resource, but if you're looking for a pickleball lesson, don't start here. Spoiler alert: it doesn't take several months to learn how to play Pickleball. Brian wasn't especially cordial, but he did offer a few other suggestions. Because it took him forever to respond, however, I had already gotten a great response from a few other places.

Brian offers novice and intermediate group classes throughout the week and a package of six sessions costs $225. Classes take place at Kirk Monroe Tennis Center in Coconut Grove in the evenings. The classes I attend start at 8:00 pm and last until 9:30 pm, with an optional warmup at 7:30 pm. Attendance varies but is usually anywhere from 4-8 people depending on the night. Overall, I've learned a ton the handful of times I've gone. Brian is very knowledgeable and passionate about the sport. My fellow classmates are super friendly and encouraging... I'm starting to progress and will hopefully be confident enough one day to take part in one of the tournaments he organizes. No matter where you are on your tennis journey, I'd recommend giving Backhand City a try if you're looking to fine tune your skills!

As a parent, I also appreciated the café and snack bar, which made it easy to take a break while the kids played. They also offer monthly memberships, birthday party packages, and will be starting classes for children ages 3-5 in September, making it a great place to visit regularly. The staff was welcoming, and the entire facility felt safe and well-maintained. If you're looking for a fun indoor play space in South Florida, I definitely recommend checking out Diver City Play. While wandering around the Grove during the King Mango Strut Parade, I discovered this charming…read morepark named in honor of explorer, pioneer, and author Kirk Munroe. Munroe was born in a log cabin in Prairie-du-Chien, Wisconsin in 1850. One of his first adventures was to walk across the continent of North America. He went on to travel the world where he wrote stories based on his experiences. His career included newspaper reporting, editing, and authoring adventure books for boys. "Through Swamp and Glade" and "Flamingo Feather" are novels based on his experiences with the Seminole Indians in Florida. In 1866 Kirk Munroe settled in Coconut Grove with his wife. It was ten years prior to Miami being incorporated as a city. Although he still traveled, he always enjoyed returning to his home in Coconut Grove which he called Scrububs. Kirk was a noted member of the Florida Audubon Society and helped establish the Ransom Everglades School. While in the Grove, he and Ralph Munroe founded the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club in 1887 to celebrate Washington's birthday. Ralph donated the land that Kirk founded the Coconut Grove Library on. It was the first library in the state of Florida to own its building. Kirk Munroe passed away on June 16, 1930 at the age of 79, at a Florida sanitarium in Orlando. His funeral service was held at the Plymouth Congregational Church. Kirk Munroe Park is Miami's only tennis park. The park has five tennis courts and offers tennis programs for youth and adults. Other park amenities include bathrooms, picnic tables, a playground, and outdoor gym equipment. While primarily a tennis park, area residents also enjoy picnics here and taking their children to play. Changes may soon be in store for this park. Coral Gables-based Allen Morris Company is proposing a massive mixed-use project, Ziggurat, for the block where Coconut Grove Laundry & Cleaners now operates, between the park and Fuller Street. If it is approved they agreed to redesign Kirk Munroe Park with a new children's play area, café, new landscaping, and a complete refurbishment of the park's five tennis courts. Some Grove residents are worried that such a massive project with impact the bohemian charm of their historic neighborhood. It is something to keep an eye on.

There are five courts that are assigned on a first come, first served basis. If you are looking to practice on your own, there is also a wall to hit on with two sides to it. Besides the courts, Kirk Munroe is a regular ol' park. It has a jungle gym, large grassy area (but dogs must be on a leash), and also fitness equipment for pull ups and the like. There are plenty of large trees to provide some shade, as well. Overall, it's an awesome center in the heart of Coconut Grove! Metered parking is found around the courts on Matilda St.

Located next to the Turnpike, adjacent to FIU and essentially the site of the Youth Fair, I came to…read morethis park yesterday to run the jingle jog 5K. From what I read, the park used to be an old airport back in the 60s. It now has fields for football & baseball, as well as a basketball court. When driving in, I saw that they had some batting cages concessions. The race itself was held on an asphalt track that looped to make the 3.1 miles. The race itself was fun, especially that I ran it with a couple of friends in a group. Besides a DJ who played DJ Laz's "Esa Morena" along with Christmas music, they were also serving lechón and pannetone as complementary bites. There was also a photo op with Santa. Where the race could have been a little better organized was in the track condition. Even though this was a night run, there was no lighting other than the runners glow sticks among the course, and with the speed bumps on the asphalt, myself and at least one or two other runners almost tripped. They also had a couple of cones in the middle of the asphalt track.

This park is in need of some major renovations. Everywhere you look you see rusty fences, poor…read morelandscaping, rough roads and parking lots. It's shocking, because just next door is the beautiful FIU grounds. I can't understand why the city doesn't clean this place up, especially for all the children that come here to play and participate in sports. I strongly suggest checking out other parks if you're looking for a nice walk or relaxing on the grass, such as the beautiful ones in Doral.
